My House Burned Down..........
and my car was destroyed, too!
Well, I thought this years was going to be better, but it has not started off well, to say the least.
I was awakened by my smoke detector's shrilling, and ran down the hall to discover my kitchen was about engulfed in flames. I grabbed my pocketbook and dog and got out the back, dialing 911 as I ran. Got out and stupid dog ran back into the house, and his leash got tangled up. Tried to step back in and the fumes were too bad, but I was able to untangle his leash and get him up, falling into the snow after I got out. Two neighbors from across the street came running up and helped me. Police and ambulance were there immediately, and the first fire truck arrived shortly after. I was fine, but was kept in the ambulance for awhile. Kept asking people to get my car moved, but no one was able to do so, so it was severely damaged by the flames and heat -- most likely totaled because it's an older car.
Luckily, I can stay with a friend down the street - but she has no internet So, I will have to come here to the library to check in for a few days. Insurance companies have already been in touch with me --- I'll have to figure out how to proceed, but first I have to know how much money I'll get from the insurers.
Furniture, clothing, car, etc. can be replaced ..... biggest loss is some jewelry and family photos. Can retrieve them from the pile of ashes that is left!! Red Cross has helped me, so I'm on the way to Salvation Army to do some clothes shopping. Just picked up my rental car, and just forwarded and temporary Change of Address form with the post office.
Could be worse. But what happened to Karma? I'm not a ***** really.
I'll be checking in. Just needed to share. My daughter is a basket case over this.
Mary
Mary you poor dear! Things cannot get worse than this. Like a Phoenix you will rise renewed from the Flames.
A lot happened today and you rescued your puppy, have rental car, insurance contacted, Red Cross, and clothes from Salvation Army, a place to stay at neighbor's, and you are not the basket case, your daughter is. Wow!
You are a tough resilient woman, we saw that with Jim and his passing. Now you have to take care of yourself. You will: onwards and upwards. Do you need help from us?

Oh, Mary. Oh honey, I am so sorry. What a horrible experience! But you and your puppy are alive. We must all thank God for that.
I am praying for you. If you need a little immediate help, I can do that too. Just PM me. I mean it. I would be happy to send a little money to help you out right now.
I'm so thankful that you can stay with your friend and that the insurance has provided you with a car. The Red Cross and Salvation Army are there to help in just such emergencies as these, but you will probably need a little extra help getting back on your feet. Just thinking out loud, but maybe we can set up a Go Fund Me account for you. I will check into that.
Love you, hon. Connie is right. Jesus was with you last night. Trust Him to be with you as things unfold.
Mary,
Thank God you are okay! How devastating...especially after all the effort you have put into your home since Jim passed.
Everyone who said Jesus was with you is right. He must have a great plan in store for you and wants you to have a fresh start.
If you need anything...ANYTHING at all please let me know or maybe you can do a post when the dust settles and any interested ladies can do a virtual housewarming!
Love you and SO relieved you and the pup made it out alive!
