Beautiful Sunday!

Good morning sweet sistas!

I hope everyone is happy and well today.  Jeannie and Trish--I hope both of your respective feet are healing today!

I am a little sore from all my exertions yesterday, but not too bad.  I can move, at least!  LOL!  And I get a little thrill of accomplishment every time I walk into my garage.  So glad to have made some progress there!

Got no real plans for today.  I'm going to finish weeding clothes out of my big closet.  The ARC will pick them all up and I have things that need to go.  I also think I'm going to take one of the clothes bars out of my closet.  It's on a wall that has those double hanging tiers.  I'm going to take the bottom one out.  I think I would rather have some organizers on the floor there.  Plus my pants are so long that they won't hang properly with that bottom bar in the way.

I also need to put away my sewing stuff before I leave for Waco.  Not sure if I want to do that today or not.  I might get a chance to do a little more sewing before I leave on Wednesday.

Tomorrow I have to take Mom shopping.  We're going to Wal Mart and Sams and the grocery store.  Going to try and stock up on anything and everything she might need while I'm gone.  Chris will take her to the store, of course, for items like bread and milk and other perishable items.  But we can buy and freeze so many things, she shouldn't be left "wanting" while I'm away.

I have to tell y'all a funny story.  You remember I tried to get Carrie's OB to tell her not to go to Houston this weekend?  Well, she finally conceded that maybe that wasn't the best idea, and so her friends from Houston came up to Waco to see her instead.  They went to some comedy club or piano bar or something after dinner last night, and guess who was there?  Dr. Redman!!!  She texted me that if she suddenly went into labor in the bar, it was okay because her doctor was right there to deliver the baby!

I didn't find any ticks before bedtime last night and I haven't seen any so far this morning.  MAYBE???

Okay, I need to get moving.  It's already 10 a.m. and here I sit in my jammies in front of the computer.  Hope everyone has a good day.  Love you all!

Vic, Judy, and Ladies,

I am sitting here coloring with my foot propped up.  Yesterday, we went down the mountain to pick up our granddaughter and took her out to eat...she had to explain to the waiter that her grandparents are vegetarians but they eat fish. LOL...Sometimes, we just let her go and she is such a little talker.

After we ate, we had to run to Walmart to pick up some odds and ends and I was going to stay in the car but then I realized that I can walk...just slowly, so we all went in and I shopped a bit.

DH is going for his annual colonoscopy this week and we picked up his prep...he keeps saying he doesn't think he can drink that gallon jug of liquid and I remind him that he says that every year and he is always able to get it down...

My foot is so much better now that the swelling is down...it is amazing that one little towel (more like a large washcloth) could bunch up under my cast and cause such a lack of circulation...today the toes are pink and warm to touch and there is very little pain.  I am still going to have to take the antibiotic for a few more days.

DH and I are getting ready to cut fish out of our diets and rely only upon plant protein.  I think I will miss eggs, not that I eat them a lot but I do use them cooking.  When I cook eggs for DH, I eat a little of a fried egg but since WLS, I have just not been able to eat an entire egg.  You'd think eggs would be easy to eat, but for me, not so much.

I don't know if you guys have tried the sandwich thins or not but if you haven't, you should give them a try.  I get the honey bread and also the whole wheat bread.  They cost the same as regular bread but you don't get all the extra calories. They are just perfect for veggie pattie. Anyway, last night, when we were in Walmart, we were picking up enough for the week, and there was a woman there and she said that she uses them like muffins and pre makes sort of like egg muffins and then she freezes them....I think I might try to freeze up some just to see if they are still good after they are defrosted and heated up.

Ladies, I need to go round up something for my granddaughter to eat.  I bought her some TV dinners because she said she will only commit to eating vegetarian one day and she didn't want that day to be Sunday...baby steps. LOL  Have a good rest of the day, and for those that can, get out and feel the sun...walk a little. I promise when my stupid foot heals up, I will never complain about having to get my walk in...the things we take for granted.

Hello Jeannie.....I am glad your foot is doing well today!! I was gone and couldn't remember what surgery you had done. I didn't forget you!!

Your granddaughter is a hoot!! She is a little talker making sure no one was mistaken that you are anything but vegetarian. Also she doesn't want to be involved and she wasn't shy about that either. I hope she changes her mind and at least gives it a try.  I think she will.

I have never tried the sandwich thins. I usually have lettuce wraps. I may try some just for something different. I am glad they come in different flavors. Thanks!!

I hope your husband has good results from his test. We all know that the prep is always the worst part of it all!!! I wish him luck!

Have a good evening....love and hugs to you...connie d

Hi Vickie and Judy and my OFF family to come:

I hate not getting on here more often. I feel I'm missing out on something. Just not having time lately.

Today I got up much too early. Gary was up early, of course, and sitting in the living room watching TV and drinking coffee before he goes to church. I got out of bed at 9 a.m. or so. I'll try to nap later.

Wednesday I made chili and have leftovers in the fridge. It was a very good batch but I don't know how to replicate it because I don't measure, just toss, and I try different ingredients every time. Kind of like my dad cooked.

Work has been busy but not hectic. Not a lot of pressure. Just a lot of pages. I read so many stories my head was full of basketball last night. Had to shake it to get all of the balls out of my mind when I got home.

Gary is enjoying his new job, although the hours are long. All he's doing is driving, and he can stand that. He's happy he'll have more money in a couple of weeks.

Other than that, not much else. My neck and shoulders have been hurting me the past couple of days. I have a roll-on of BioFreeze in my drawer at work and I've had to use it recently. Other issues aren't as bad. I have a chiro appointment on Tuesday, which is good.

Vickie, I hope that baby can wait til you get there.

Judy, glad you finally won at Bingo. Only did that once in my life.

Well, have a good day everyone.

Eileen,

Years ago, I learned the hard way to keep up with what went into the dishes that I was cooking because of the off chance that something turned out really good, I wanted to repeat it.

Gosh, when I first started cooking, I made some awful dishes and that was following a recipe but then, like all of us here, I learned the process and was able to follow the process and adapt it to what I like.  Sadly for me, I became a very good cook but I continue to make sure that if I add something to my soups that I haven't tried before, I put it on a card because if it sucks, I don't want to do that again.

Which reminds me when I was a very young wife and mother and my children's father had invited some friends over and he said to me, make mashed potatoes because they have never eaten real potatoes...I guess their wives made instant. That'll teach him to go around bragging about how great his wife cooks because when I was creaming the potatoes together with butter and milk, I thought, hey, why not put some avocado in there....cause you know I had two that were getting a little ripe...so I put the avocados in the already fantastic mashed potatoes and I don't know...it sucked big time.  We were at the table and I had fried chicken, made corn on the cob, home made bread, and those awful potatoes....The wives of his friends looked at me and said, why are they green and I said, oh, it's avocados...and then we all took a bite and without missing a beat I said, wow, this sucks...we all agreed but the gravy and bread and chicken and corn were to die for.  I learned two lessons...don't add new ingredients when company is coming and avocados and mashed potatoes are not flavors that marry well....

You cooked like my friend Roxane ... it's going bad, so let's put it in the soup. Although I don't think she ever put in avocados.

My dad always started with a recipe and then improvised. That's basically what I do, except with my chili. I may find a couple of ingredients from a chili recipe that I'll try (like cinnamon and cocoa) but otherwise, it's just dump and taste. This time, I used some medium salsa and it was lip burning chili. Good, but with a sizzling aftertaste. Not really hot ... I could eat it ... it just had a good bite to it.

Hello Eileen.....we have both been scarce lately. Good to see you here today!

You make chili like I do....no recipe...just what ever I want it to be. I haven't gone wrong so far. I am sure your is really good!!

I am glad your nights at work are getting a little better. I can't imagine that too can come home after work and go right to sleep. I would need down time and I am sure you do too!!

I am glad Gary is enjoying his driving job. It is nice to be paid and not have the boss breathing down your neck.

Sorry you are having issues with your neck and shoulders. Maybe your Chiropractor can get that worked out for you on Tuesday.

Have a good evening... love and hugs to you...connie d

Afternoon update:  Geez, I've been purging my closet for HOURS now.  Whew!  I had to take a break.  Haven't had time to cook anything, so lunch was a PBJ, heavy on the PB!  LOL!

I must say, my closet is getting much better now that I've emptied so many things out of it.  I still need to do some more organizing and rearranging, but I think I'm about done for this day.  I just have to finish boxing and bagging the items I'm donating to ARC and put them in the pile in the garage.

The last time I boxed up some of Butch's clothes, I cried and cried.  But today wasn't so bad.  I saved a few special shirts that I wanted to keep.  And I held back a few things for the girls.  They each wanted a couple of shirts from Daddy, like a flannel shirt or a chambray shirt.  I'm also saving Butch's two black leather bomber jackets for the boys to have one day.  But that's it.  Everything else is going to ARC.   I thought I would be very sad, but I'm not.  It's good that these clothes are going to someone who can use them.  Butch would approve.

I also purged some of my clothes.  If I haven't worn it in over a year, I'm not likely to!

I do so wish I could send y'all some of this extremely FINE weather we're having right now.  I have all the doors and windows open today.  It's truly lovely.  Have to enjoy it while we can.  All too soon I'll have to turn on my AC again.

Check back in with y'all later!
