Hi Ladies......

Had a busy few days

I got really annoyed with my neighbor after the storm the other day.  I have been helping her out some over the past few months.  She has cancer and her treatment has been going well.  But she developed back problems which have really disabled her to a great extent.  Picked up her mail when she went to stay with her mother when her back really knocked her off her feet.  Then when she came home, I would call her from the grocery store and would pick things up for her.  Last week I brought her a food box from the Food Share - four huge heavy-duty shopping bags. She was super appreciative.  She has a snow blower, and last year she showed a neighbor how to use it and invited her to use it anytime.  This Fall I asked if maybe she could show me how to use it, and when it snowed I said I would plow her driveway and then mine.  She never felt well enough to do it at the time.  During the storm, I went out a few times to clear the steps and the sidewalk to the car.  So after the storm, and after the town plows came through, I see her son snowblowing her driveway.  Stupid me, I assumed she would either have him snowplow my driveway -or- call me over to show me how to use it so I could plow my driveway.  Neither happened.  Luckily, Maura had to come over to pick up Taylor, so she told me she would shovel the driveway for me.  After she left, I went out and finished it up a bit more.  I did the favors for my neighbor because she was alone and could use the help, and I wasn't looking for anything in return.  But since she showed another neighbor how to use the snowblower and invited her to use it, I thought she would do the same for me.  It was a huge disappointment to me.  First, I was angry, now just disappointed.

Yesterday, I worked at the foodshare in the morning, and then went up to the kitchen to help prepare the "Bread of Life" supper.  So I left home at 7:30 a.m. and got home at 7:30 p.m. - with just a half hour break around 11:30.  It was go, go, go all day.  I'm exhausted today, but I enjoy doing the work.  One of the cooks is starting up a dinner in the other town served by the foodshare - his will be on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday (as opposed to the 2nd and 4th Tuesday) -- so I'll be adding that into my schedule.  Both of the cooks are always telling me how much they appreciate my work, and how they can rely on me when things need to get done.

Today I met a friend and we went to the Senior Center for lunch.  Unfortunately, it was the one day this month when they didn't serve a hot lunch - instead it was a cold pastrami on rye sandwich, with coleslaw, soup and canned fruit.  So I ate the cabbage soup, the coleslaw and the pastrami only, leaving the bread and fruit.  That makes up for yesterday - when I just ate almonds throughout the day, and then two boxes of crackerjacks when I got home.  :(  So, I had one bad day, and am not allowing it to become two bad days.

Well, I'm going to sign off--want to search youtube for more videos on chrocheting - I've figured out the single stitch, but I'm having problems with the double.  I want to learn it so I can start the afghan I want to make - I need to keep my hands busy, otherwise I'll go back to buying peanuts by the one or two pound bag.  :( :( :(

Hope you're all doing well - good wishes to all !

Mary,

I am so sorry your neighbor has not been as neighborly as you.  I suspect, though, that you are like me and will continue helping her when she needs it. I love working at the university's food pantry.

You be careful when you are out in all that snow...

Try not to be too annoyed.  I know it is frustrating to feel used but if you think people won't disappoint you'll be forever in a funk.  I often think they just don't think.  Especially if she is dealing with cancer.  Chemo brain is real, my sister has been cancer free for 3 years and still deals with chemo brain.  It makes her feel stupid and helpless.  Her son may not know all that  you have been doing for her and probably doesn't know that she shared the snowplow with the other neighbor.  He may have a lot on his plate and never thought to ask about neighbors.  I doubt it was an intentional personal snub.  Maybe when she is having a good day and the weather is a little nicer again you could ask her to show you how to use it.

You sound like you enjoy your food share work.  I use to work with the Feed my Lambs program when my church was involved.  It is rewarding.

Well.....here I am.  Ladies, my toe that I messed up...well...it turns out that I broke one of the bones in my foot.  I should have gone to the doctor but I just didn't want to go.  Now, the doctor is fussy about it and saying that it is doubtful that it will heal right and he needs to send me to an orthopedic doctor for pins... I am so mad at myself.  Yesterday, my foot began to swell and I thought it was from me hanging that leg down but this morning, after sleeping all night with my foot on a pillow, the damn foot was so big I couldn't wear my shoe. I wore a shoe to work that was way too big and finally got in to see my doctor and he x-rayed it and there it the bones was...broken clean in half and not even trying to align up and heal....I am so mad at myself.  He manipulated it and put a splint on it and x-rayed it again and said he got it close to be aligned for now it will keep it from healing wrong...but we have to see an ortho guy...so tomorrow, I go see the orthopedic guy that only works on feet...not to be confused with a podiatrist. I hope he thinks it will be okay to leave it in the brace...when the doctor manipulated it around, I thought I was going to throw up...

So, I am sitting here waiting for the soup to cook and my foot is throbbing like crazy and I am afraid to take more pain meds than I normally take because of the constipation thing and the harming my liver....dang it.  I guess I will just eat more prunes.

I hope you all have a good night.  Vic, don't paint that room because you cannot get your shoulder messed up right before the baby comes...I will try to post on you guys' posts.....damn foot.

Trish,

I used to make meatloaf for DH and me and I would cook it in my little muffin tins...I have the large muffin tin and my meatloaf would fit in those perfectly...now, I use them for my vegetarian veggie loaf, which is pretty good.

I love the idea of making home made valentines. I think I am going to borrow that idea and have my student workers and graduate students make valentines for our valentine tree...I admire you so much for all that you do for those who are not able to do for themselves.  If I ever retire, I hope to get to do more.
