Busy Bee Wednesday!

Good morning sistas!

I'm up (for the third morning in a row) with the alarm clock and today's adventure is a trip to the car dealership.  Wish me luck!

I am so happy that the scale moved down another pound today!  Hooray!  I am feeling virtuous and confident this morning.

I was going to report on my experiment with the "beet chips".  LOL!  Sometimes things on FB look so good, but when you try them at home . . .   Anyway, I did try to make them.  I don't own a mandolin, and I think that must be part of the secret.  I tried to slice the beets as thinly as possible, but of course, they were not all the exact same thickness.  As a result, some of my "chips" were extra crispy and some were never crispy at all.  But I thought they tasted just fine.  I really liked the flavor of the golden beets the best.  The purple beets were okay, but much more strongly flavored . . . like beets!  LOL!

One funny thing: I snacked on the chips most of the afternoon, and last night, just before bedtime I went to pee and I nearly panicked!  I thought I must have blood in my urine.  Oh, no!  It was just the red beet juice!  LOL!

So, I'm off.  I'll check back later today.  Love you all!

Vickie, I had the same experience with Kale chips.  Lots of work for a handful of chips that tasted charred.  C'es la'vie.

Hello ladies, it 44 and sunny here in SE Texas.  Perfect!!!

Today I get a haircut and the purple in my hair redone.  It has faded to a pale lavender with some faded to the white it was bleached to to take the purple. I think the most exercise I get today will be to do some gentle stretches and ride my recumbent bike.  The 5.19 miles I finished the day with yesterday nearly finished me.  My knees are achy today but I know I will feel better if I do some light activity.  If my knees loosen up this evening I will walk around the neighborhood.  I want to be outside in this glorious weather.  This afternoon is laundry and tomorrow I pack for our trip to Nevada.  Our friends live near the Utah border in Mesquite and we will spend a lot of time in St. George, Utah.  My friend Pam says she has found a lot of things to see there.  We usually hike the parks but the windy chilly conditions are bad for her MS.

Hope you all have a great day

Linda,

Those tight knees are awful. I hate when mine swells inside and then it feels so full but loose too...

Walking and hiking are such great ways to exercise and if you go at your own pace, you will get those muscles worked just right.

I walk very slowly but I get there and that's what matters.

I ordered me a fit bit so I can make sure that I get all the steps in I need to burn calories.  My phone has an app and I use the pedometer but I don't trust them like the fit bit...everyone swears by it.

Yeah Jeannie, I have two apps on my phone.  One is runtastic and the other came with my Samsung it's S health.  Runtastic is accurate but I keep making mistakes.  Yesterday I thought I stopped it properly but didn't so it gave me credit for 16 miles of car travel.  S Health is not so accurate.  I rely on the fitbit.  It and runtastic usually agree pretty closely.  Like you I am in no hurry.

So far today I have walked 7,850 steps, I should get over 8,000 before I go to bed.  I still have a few trips to the washer and dryer left.  There is about 2,000 steps in a mile.  I will have done approx. 4 miles today but that is not hiking all at a time miles.  Just accumulated throughout the day.  I'll take it.  I am also retuning my diet.  My stomach no longer likes a lot of things I have always eaten.  I now am eating mostly fish as protein and what ever veggies I have on hand.  I eat a lot of sushi rolls these days, only cooked stuff however.  I still do carbs.  I am a slave to really good bread. I have been known to choose restaurants based on their bread.  That is the only carb I can't seem to give up.  No fried anything, it makes me ill. Guess that is good.  Maybe in a few weeks I reap a reward on the scale.

Linda,

I love good bread too and I bake a mighty fine variety of breads. Breads are not our enemies and carbs aren't our enemies. What I have found is that if I eat more rustic breads that are loaded with fiber, I am able to count out some of those carbs...I love dark fibrous breads...I also throw some oatmeal and cornmeal in almost every yeast bread that I make because it adds to the fiber content.  But, a nice sourdough bread is to die for. I keep sourdough going all the time just so I can make a loaf or two for us. I usually give the majority of it away because you know, I would just surf on the bread all. day. long.

Hi Vickie and my OFF family:

That's funny about the beet chips. Good that you are willing to experiment. I am sometimes, but I'm not a fan of beets.

I didn't do much of anything yesterday, just laundry and hang around the house. Gary and I watched a movie, "The 100-foot Journey," in the evening ... we were going to watch something on On-Demand but it wasn't working when we went to watch it.

Back to work today ... I volunteered for overtime, although I really could use the day off. I want to doze off now as it is.

Have a good day.

Aloha friends......I finally got back on OH after months of being unable to.  I used to be known as Maui Karen because I lived on Maui, and some of you might remember me.  I have followed many of you over the years....Connie, Vicki, Jeannie, Eileen, Mary, etc. and I have loved seeing your support and love of each other!  I will try and get back into the swing in here.  My WLS surgery was TEN years ago and I went from 350 down to 150 , and today I weigh 154!  I have been very lucky and thankful for this surgery and the freedom it has given me.  I used to do a "How are we doing now?" Post and loved the shares from that. Now just checking back in.  This the MOST AWESOME group on this board. ??

Karen,

It is always good to read your posts. How the hell is CA treating you?  We should start the how we are doing and you should start it for us.  I loved reading and being reminded of all those important things that we all dreamed of for so long and now we are taking for granted...If you start it, we will all chime in...I would start it but I am going to do a nutrition one in a day or so and I don't want to hog the floor.

It's so good to see you here.

Hey Karen.  I remember you.  Even thought of you when I took a cruise a while back and spent some time on Maui.

I echo Jeannie, start the thread, others will follow,

Oh Karen! How nice to "see" you again!

I have only just returned the last week ...my life is insanely busy but I am doing well and now down 132 pounds...took me a long time to get there but i am so grateful, always, for this surgery. I still have a ways to go yet but my aging metabolism doesn't help nor my two severely arthritic knees...I now walk with a cane.
