Wednesday - It's Raining, It's Pouring.......
Good Morning Ladies!
It's pouring rain outside, and they have flood warnings for the Cape Cod area -- unfortunately, I don't live anywhere near the shore, I'm in Central Massachusetts. We definitely need the rain.
So I'm doing my usual early morn' furniture moving...I have three tvs, two very old ones, and one small flatscreen. The biggest tv was in the bedroom, and I had the other two in the living room, one was set up with the cable, the other with Netflix. Well the big tv has not been working well for a very long time - the picture is so dark you can hardly make it out. So I decided to move that into my "get rid of" pile in the back room, and move the smaller old one into the bedroom; then I would set up the flatscreen so I could watch cable and Netflix on it. Oh, I also needed to move the huge open-shelf entertainment center, which for the size of it was really not "that heavy". So, I did get everything moved without too much huffing and puffing. Went to "fix" all the cable wires.....and now the fun begins. In the bedroom tv, not complicated at all, but the wire going from the cable box to the tv was trouble....it was too loose and I couldn't get it to stay in. Had to fiddle around tying it to another wire, and taping it in place to hold it. Problem "fixed". Now the living room tv, that's another problem. All wired up ok, but I can't figure out how to "switch" back and forth between the cable and Netflix. It's stuck on Netflix and I can't switch it to cable. I can always watch Netflix on my computer, but I'll call "Tech Support" at Charter/Spectrum and see if they can walk me through the process. Unfortunately, unlike some of you lucky ladies, I don't have a tech geek I can call (Maura's boyfriend Joe could probably do it, but he's always so busy....Charter is pretty good - no long wait-times anymore and they've been helpful in the past. (For what you pay, they should be helpful!). That will be one of today's adventures.
I do have to go out in this miserable weather today. It's the last day of the month so I have to go to the gas station my supermarket is connected with to get my one fill-up of "discount gas" - you earn ten cents off a gallon for every so many dollars you spend on groceries. I wait till the end of the month so I can earn as much as a I can. Used to be I'd earn about 70 cents off, but by myself it was only 30 cents, which is still quite a saving. Also have to go to GNC for a sale that ends today, buy one tub of their protein powder, get a second at half off. I have chocolate now, so I'm going to buy vanilla and strawberry today. Then, off to the Library to return a book I borrowed: X by Sue Grafton. Don't know if any of you are familiar with her A-Z series, but I've read A thru W, and X just came out after a wait of about two years. I've liked all the books, but this one was disappointing. I get most of my Library books in the E-book version, so I don't even have go to the library, I just borrow them on-line.
So, I've got a bit of running around. I was going to go to the dump, but it's too nasty for that.
What are you folks up to??
Hope you all have a good day.
Mary
Good Morning Mary!
You sure are up and at 'em early! I wish I had your energy! Moving all that stuff around and trying to hook stuff up is hard work! I hope you get the TV figured out. For the most part I think I could live without a TV. Jim dominates it 90% of the time...which is fine because there are only a few programs I like. I'd rather read, play on the computer, swim or work around the house...
Speaking of reading I loved Sue Grafton's series. I did not know X had come out...I have been on a 'thriller' run lately...thank God I got off the serial killer book run I was on before that! Anyhow, I don't know if it is the ending of a long series for Grafton that has caused my interest to wane or her writing, but her last few books did not hold my interest like the better half of A thru P. They just seemed to get redundant.
It is rainy and cloudy here, too. I think we are pretty much under the same forecast as you for heavy rains over the next few days. We are also in desperate need of rain. I was thinking last night when they forecasted the news wouldn't it be a ***** if we got all the moisture this winter we didn't get over the summer? I am in NO mood for snow. Last winter was so bleak I thought I'd go crazy! Overcast, bone-chilling, icy, snowy...ugh! I guess we'll see..
I did want to say to Vickie I am sorry you had such an awful day yesterday. I hope you are feeling better today. You and Mary are really going through it!
I am going with Jim to the lung doctor at noon to see what they have to say about his diagnosis. I'd like to know if that might be what triggered that awful breathing attack. He said he was going to quit smoking after he finished the pack he had...we'll see what he does.
Everyone have a good day!
Kathy
Hello Kathy my little ray of Sunshine....you always make me smile!
I agree with you about the Sue Grafton A-Z books. The last few I read just weren't holding my interest like the earlier ones. I still read them. I am curious where she will go after this series. I love thriller books. Actually they are my favorite. What ones have you been reading?
I agree with you too about WINTER...UGH!!! It was so dark and so long!! Why we have to have a winter that long I don't know!! At least I rarely will have to go out in it! I can sit by my window and watch others cleaning the snow and ice off their cars! Isn't that mean? I really would go out and help them but I just can't.
I really do hope Jim's appointment goes well and that he will give up smoking. He sure would be doing himself a big favor!!
Now that I am hooked on Netflex I can't give up movies again!! TV pretty much sucks most of the times. there aren't too many programs that I watch anyway. Law and Order SVU Is my favorite. NCIS but not as much as when Ziva was there!! Then of course...I never miss The Walking Dead!!! There are a couple comedy's I like too. Oh... and yes I know...still lovely VIKINGS!!
Have a good rest of the day!!! I love you!!
More love and hugs to you....connie d
Good morning Mary and OFF-
pouring here in Maine and I am using it as an excuse to stay in bed. When I finish this post, I'll brave the rain to go to other cabin to make coffee and eat, plus shower. Don't want to have to clean two bathrooms!
Movers pulled out at 230 yesterday. Ten pages of inventory sheets. Yesterday they notified me that delivery will be the 17th. So that gives me time to check on mom and get stuff done for her.
just have to vacuum both cabins. 12 years of dust buildup under some of the furniture. They let me vacuum the rugs before they rolled them up.
so coffee calls ladies. Have to get out of bed and get stuff done. Thoughts and hugs to all of you.

Good morning Mary, Kathy, Cindi and all my sweet sistas,
Well, a new day dawns, and I'm doing better today. I feel rather like Annie: Yesterday was plain awful, but the sun will come out TOMORROW. So, it's tomorrow and I'm doing better.
Getting ready to leave for Waco in about an hour. Still need to water my plants. Got the trash out and the dishes done. We're only staying one night, so it's minimal packing. (Ha! Try telling my mother that! She's got her usual flotilla of luggage packed and stacked by the door!)
Last night, in an effort to self-soothe, I opened all the new bed linens I've been saving and made up my bed with new sheets, new blanket, and new comforter. I was going to wait until I'd sewn my new duvet cover, but what the heck. The bed felt fresh and new and I needed that. I've been using the same bed linens that Butch and I had, and while comforting in some ways, in other ways they have just been a constant reminder of what I've lost. I think I'm reaching that stage of being ready to move on in some ways.
Well, no more time to chat. I just wanted to say hi and let you all know I'm doing fine today. Y'all are so sweet and loving and supportive. Truly. I always feel I am among family here.
Tomorrow is the Big Reveal! SEW excited! LOL! I'll be sure and post as soon as we know the baby's gender.
Love you all!
Hello Vickie....I am so happy to know you slept better and are feeling better too!!
I am so excited for the news of little Pita!!!!! What time is the appointment? I can just imagine how excited Carrie must be!!! I know YOU sure are!!!! So are all of us sistas here on OFF!!!
I pray you have a safe trip to Waco and home again!
I will anxiously be waiting to hear the news!!
I love you much...HUGS....connie d
Good morning Mary and everyone.....I am glad you aren't in the flooding area!! I heard on the news it was going to be bad in the Cape Cod area.
I am so proud of all the work you are doing!! Moving furniture and everything!!! You sure do have more energy and motivation then I have! I love you, HONEY!!!
Charter...I cringe every time I have to call them. It means at least an hour or much longer no matter what it is!!! I need to call them about my bill. I am paying way too much and I need to see what they can do for me. I just keep putting it off because of all the wasted time! Good luck Honey!!
Wow that is a good discount on gas. Your gas bill is less then half of what it was. That will be money used for something else. Maybe a something fun for you now and then!!
I still in 8+ years have yet to find a protein powder I can stand. I have tried so many even the expensive ones from "Bariatric" and "Chike" and many others. I end up giving them away. I stick with my "Glucose Control Boost" and "Premier Protein" drinks.
I have read many of "Sue Grafton's" A-Z books. They are good and can be pretty funny at times. Some are much better then others. That is true with any series books. I should start ordering them for my Nook!!
Have a good day!!!
As for me...... I don't have a lot planned. Just more of the same. I will take a walk and enjoy the cooler temps and the sunshine. My cleaning fairy (Melissa) comes at 1:00 PM. She is here about 3-4 hours depending on what extra things I want done. That takes care of most of the afternoon!! She is funny and we always have a good time. Plus, she is an amazing cleaner!! I thank God for Melissa and my driver, Fran every day!!
I am definitely hooked on Netflix!!! Kyleigh told me I would love it and I sure do. It has been forever since I have gone to a movie. That is except with Gracie!! I have a list of movies I want to watch!! So many movies I have missed! How did a make it this long without Netflix!!
I need to get in the shower. I have wasted too much time on the computer this morning. I will be back!!!
Prayers for our amazing OFF Family and their families. Special prayers as requested.
I can't wait to hear from Vickie with the great news tomorrow!!!
Remember to do an "Act of Kindness" along the day today!
Loads of love and bunches of hugs to all.....connie d
I watch Netflix a lot - I'm hoping to get an antenna so I can get a few basic stations, then I'll get rid of cable. I also tried Amazon Prime for tv shows and movies - it costs about the same as Netflix and also includes some other Amazon benefits. When I get rid of cable, I'll add the Amazon Prime.
I used to order used books through Amzon, but the shipping added up. I did order books thru Kindle, but then I started going to the library. Then I discovered E-books thru the library - borrow on-line for free. There's also an option to order them thru kindle but I don't use that.
Gotta watch those pennies!
Mary,
Are you talking about the antennae Christine said she had purchased for under $100 and somehow when combined with Netflix she was either able to get rid of her cable or it was a nominal fee while still enjoying cable shows?
I have thought of looking into that for Jim. We did cut our cable costs when we switched from Verizon to DISH TV, but it's still up there in price. I like to save a dollar wherever I can...especially if the quality is similar.
