Had my mandatory pre-op class Monday. Getting ready for the big day on Monday the 21st. So excited. So much to do before. Want to have all my wash done. Must shop for groceries and Saturday is my husband's birthday. No big party here! LOL!! He wants T shirts. I guess I'll splurge and get him some. Ha Ha!!! He has been so supportive. I hope he continues. I read somewhere that many couples divorce within 2 years after wls. We have been married 41 years. I don't know how we work this out with me not able to eat/cook  the things he likes/wants. He says it is ok. I know he is a great guy and hopefully we can figure it out. Can someone tell me how or if I can join this group. Thanks Priscilla

Congrats on your upcoming surgery Priscilla.  I assume you are on the liquid diet at the moment.  Perhaps you want to cook some meals and freeze them for your husband while your on liquids post surgery, then you don't have to worry about cooking for him.  By posting on this forum, you've joined our group.  We're a varied group with members all over the US and Canada.  Just join right in on the conversations and don't be afraid to ask your questions.  There are several new members that have joined us recently.

I'm not married so I can't tell you what it will be like with a husband that is eating "normally".  We do have several members who are married and I'm sure that they will chime in and offer suggestions.

That's a great idea. I may make try cooking up larger meals and freezing. I am sure I will figure it out. I am not on a liquid diet. I was prepared to be on one, but this surgery facility does not do that. Just a very light diet day before and nothing by mouth after midnight. I am scheduled for a sleeve but I had a stapling in the 80's and my Dr is not sure if he can do a sleeve. He may have to do a gastric bypass. I  am just afraid he may not be able to do either with my botched up stapling. I will believe it when it is done. Priscilla

Freeze some very small portions for yourself for later on.  When I was recovering from VSG I learned to cook everything at once and then freeze in portions that I could manage at the time.  It was helpful when I would come home from volunteer work and want a meal.

Hi Priscilla -- and welcome!!  You don't need to "join" this group - just jump right in and post. We have a daily thread -- keeps things simple.

Surgery next Monday??  You must be very excited!!  Which type of you having?  We have pre-ops, post-ops, newbies and veterans here.

Please tell us a little about yourself so we can get to know more about you.  This is a great group -- lots of support here and lots of sharing.

Good luck with your surgery -- I'm sure you'll do fine.

Hi, I am so excited for you and so close to surgery. I sent off all my request for medical records 6 weeks ago and I did call yesterday to see what was going on and still have not heard from them. They had a doctor to leave 2 weeks ago so I know thing are hard.

Hope I can give you some support anyway.

That sounds crazy. My process went along very quickly. I was amazed how fast. I am 65 and I joked with the staff. Come on and hurry this up, I might be dead before I get it done. Lol. Hopefully things will speed up for you.

Good Morning Priscilla,

Good advice here.  I live alone, so I didn't have to worry about feeding others during my post-op diet.  I did make some homemade broth and pureed chicken soup and other things and freeze them for later.  During my six week post-op diet, my church had a picnic with yummy barbecue.  I took some home to freeze for later, and packed my food for the picnic in my cooler.

Be prepared to walk a lot post-op.  Take comfortable slippers or shoes.

Praying and looking forward to seeing you on the Losers Bench soon.

Hugs,

Trish

Hi! I'm one day behind you on the 22nd three more sleeps! I'm 55, having sleeve op. Made my chicken stock for the freezer and cleaning the house so it won't make me crazy when I'm recovering and can't do anything about it  GOOD LUCK ON MONDAY!
