I am home from the hospital
Hi Everyone,
You have been very patient waiting for my response to the diagnosis. Here it is....I had a blockage of the small intestine that was related to my Roux En Y bypass. It was caused by scar tissue from my original surgery in December of 2007. I really thought I was out of the woods on this. Guess it can happen anytime. I feel better now but I have to follow rigorous dietary guidelines, sort of like starting over after the bypass was done the first time. Hopefully I can stay positive and lose more weight with a smile. Not smiling today but maybe tomorrow....Julia

Did they go in and remove the blockage? How was that surgery?
So you need to follow guidelines as you did when the RNY was first done. I hope that all works out for you. Please let us know how you are doing.
I would think that would be the best way to start. That will certainly get your stoma shrunk back to size.

I had no idea this could happen so far out from surgery. Anyway, if I'm understanding it correctly, the surgeon cut off the scar tissue piece and reformed a new "link" I think. The surgery was laparoscopic and of course the pain is similar to the first RNY. The hardest part for me is that I was not "up" for another RNY and liquid diet. The surgeon was not anyone I'd ever met and to tell you the truth he is an a-hole. He did the surgery and I did not see him again for three days, and only then because I was having a hissy fit about WTH I was eating? He put me on a full liquid diet but the same exact thing every meal every day. Absolutely no calories at all. Once I got a protein drink and sucked it down. Then he was pissed because I was asking questions. I had been throwing up for two weeks at this point and had lost 17 pounds. I am fine with losing weight but at this point I'm more interested in living. This man does not like uppity women asking questions. He just says do what I say or die. It was a difficult position for me.
Julia....what a grouch....he would be better off being a mortician! Then no one would ask him anything!
I sure wouldn't like him!! If you don't have to see him again I wouldn't. Find someone else if you can!! It sounds like this surgeon has a huge EGO!!!
I thought the surgery was probably laparoscopic. I would think you are pretty sore inside. I hope you really start feeling better soon. Good luck with the liquids!!
