Jeannie's Home
Ladies, as you know, I took the grandkids to Galveston for a little beach time and let me just say that I am worn out. DH and I rented a huge van so that each child could have their own seat (three rows of seats), and we planned the trip down to every single bathroom break, food stop, etc., and wouldn't you know it, the kids chose to occupy only two of the rows of seats so that there was always two kids sharing one seat, but the third row was there if one got too rowdy, which happened and usually it happened in the middle of heavy traffic. LOL.
We got to Galveston around 8 PM and the kids played in the pool for an hour or so and then went straight to bath and bed. We got up really early and went to the beach and they played in the water most of the morning. By noon, the granddaughter and I had had enough of the sun and sand and we took off shopping while the boys went with granddad on a fishing boat...they were gone until pretty late so the girl and I cleaned up and shopped and then we ate at really nice dress-up restaurant and she had a blast getting pampered by the wait staff...she kept telling them that this was her first time on the beach and her first time to dress up really nice for a real nice restaurant....they served her a glass of white grape juice in a beautiful wine glass....she wore her real pearls. Oh my, she had a blast. By the time we finished our meal, and shared our dessert, the boys texted and were pulling in the dock, so we headed out to pick them up...boy did they stink. Both boys caught huge fish that the captain prepared for shipping to a taxidermist place and in a few weeks, their fish will be mounted and on their bedroom walls....yeah. I was happy that I didn't have to do anything and that after their fishing trip, they were happy to eat Mcdonalds....
They played on the beach some more on Sunday and we ate at Joe's Crab Shack and the two little ones had lobster for the first time, and I was shocked at how quickly they learned to crack the claw and eat the tail....my granddaughter even ate the brains; she does everything granddad does...I did spend most of Sunday with my brother, who lives in Houston, and the kids and DH along with my nephew spent the day on the beach. We left Houston late and after finally getting the kids home, we pulled in around 5 AM...so I stayed home today to rest.
I really hated that we spent so much money but we always try to take the kids on a vacation and this year, aside from local attractions, we have not taken them anywhere so it was money well spent. Just taking my granddaughter to a really nice restaurant was worth it all..
So, it looks like almost all of us are back in pocket.
Hello Jeannie....WELCOME HOME!!!!!!!
Your vacation sounds just wonderful. Everyone had a great time with many "firsts" along the way. I am so happy that your granddaughter got to experience fine dining!! I am sure she will never forget that time with grandma!! You did so much with just them in mind. What wonderful memories they will have forever!!
When you plan a trip you really plan...WOW...even bathroom breaks!! Those children are very fortunate to have grandparents that can do so many exciting things with them. I would love to do that with mine but too late for me. I am poor so that is that!!
I am glad you stayed home today and caught up with your rest. There is always so much to do after a vacation!!
Love you....HUGS....connie d
Connie,
My grandkids are just as happy to stay home and do art projects or hang out and watch a movie. I know that we won't always have the extra money to do things with them so I try and get as much fun stuff in while he is still working...you know how that goes. But, the vacations, even mini vacations, wear me out.
Hi Jeannie ........I was so worn out after just having Gracie here for the week. I can't imagine how tired you must have been with all you did!
It is wonderful to spend the time with your grands while you still can!! They had a great time and I am sure you did too.
You are right...our grands love to be with us no matter what they get to do!!!
Love you much....hugs.....connie d
Glad y'all made it home! Isn't it amazing how much even a small getaway costs these days? But I agree with Connie: the memories are priceless!
I'm really hoping Pita is a girl! I would love to take her out to a really nice dress up place one day. There's a place in San Antonio that hosts afternoon teas. I would love to do that! I guess I could take the boys, LOL, but I'm afraid Budder (aka Bam-Bam) might do the bull-in-a-china-closet act!
Anyway, glad y'all are home and had a good time.
Vic,
My grandsons are the sweetest boys ever but at 11 and 17, they do not enjoy the finer things in life. My Baby Girl is a girly girl in every sense of the word and she brought her pearls on the trip because she said, just in case Nana and I have a girl's day...so I made a special point of getting a reservation at a special restaurant. Sadly, our dinner almost cost as much as the fishing boat ride. LOL but it was worth it.
