Good Late Afternoon Mary and OFF-
Mary sorry to read about your Uncle accident and his daughter's injuries. That is going to be tough. I have a friend who has a special needs child and I harped at her about making sure she had guardianship arranged for the child. I was happy to read about your Uncle having taken care of that.
As for the 11 liters from Jim's tap. Has anyone explained to him that diet helps control some of this. Wow! I will swing chickens that he gets a liver soon.
Kathy you have the muggies and heat south of us. We are muggy and cool here in Maine. Everything is late on the local farms. I stopped and bought peas for one of my neighbors today when I drove to town. They say it will break soon and we'll have less humid air.
Connie I can relate to wanting to get out. I decided to drive to town and have lunch with a friend. Also had to go to Walmart for more wrapping paper. I love cherries so I stopped and replenished my supply.
Vickie with everything you have worried about in the last eighteen months missing a tax payment is not a biggie in my opinion. I'm surprised that the town had not sent any follow-up paperwork. I have a friend in water fitness who got a nasty letter from the town of Anahuac for a property that she and her husband sold over ten years ago. Go figure. I saw on Facebook that someone posted about an electric canning pot. I would return to canning if I could use an electric canning pot. New house has a ceramic cook top and I do not like it. I want to eventually put gas cooking back in. I want my petro chemicals.
Jeanine (or is it Francine, can't remember) where is China are you going? I traveled there twice on business trips before retiring. My former employer had a rule that if the flight was over 8 hours you could fly business class at a minimum. I went to Shanghai twice and it was interesting. If you need someone to go in your place let me know.
Eileen the pizza sounds good. I have found a Rachel Ray recipe for a pizza where the crust is substituted with a chicken cutlet that you hammer thin. You roast cherry tomatoes in a cast iron skillet with the seasonings until they burst. Saute the chicken cutlet in another pan until cooked. Top the chicken with fresh basil, roasted tomatoes and fresh mozarella. I like it because carbs especially breads are my enemy and part of my regain.
Well the Decision Kit arrived today from my former employer. Now I have to read all the booklets they have sent about this lump sum pension buyout offer. I've downloaded a spreadsheet they have prepared for us that helps us analyze this offer. Next week I attend a webinar about the offer. Following week a conference call with my financial planner/broker. I have until September 25 to make the decision. The lump sum is within the amount that my brother the annuity expert says would give me the same income.
Talked with my mother today as I drove home from town. She sheepishly admitted that she fell this morning and did a face plant on the sidewalk. She pushed her emergency button and the nurse came and tended to her. They took her back to her duplex and checked her out physically. They made arrangements for her meals to be delivered at home for the rest of the day and told her to stay home applying ice to her face. She says she didn't lift her foot high enough while stepping up onto the curb and tripped. Fortunately she doesn't appear to have broken anything and tomorrow she has an appointment scheduled with a foot doctor since she has been having sharp pains in her foot. Time will tell. Everytime she tells me about these events it's become she's afraid that her facility is going to rat her out. I told her I was glad that she was okay and that she has to learn to pick her feet up. That's so funny because she used to say the same thing to me when I was growing up. I'll check on her tomorrow and see how she's doing.
Judy hope you're able to get in touch with your sister and that they will get this infection under control. Clearly this little bug is resistant to a lot of antibiotics for it to continue this long. I will swing chickens for just clouds for the wedding.
Well I've rambled on for a while so I'll close now. Positive thoughts going out to all of you who need them.
Cindi B.
Hi Cindi,
I sure hope your Mom is okay from her fall today. I did a face plant, falling off a curb, and broke my nose, and landed in the hospital for a week with a horrible leg injury. Sent home, back in a few more days, coz the pain was unlike any other, and ended up with surgery to drain a clot in a huge hematoma on my shin. I had a visiting nurse doing wound care for over two months after that. Having my leg not elevated was excruciating during the recovery.
That Rachel Ray recipe sounds yummy. Could you tell me what was in the pan with the cherry tomatoes while you roasted them?
Hugs,
Trish

I put oregano in with my tomatoes but you can use just about any spice combination. She used garlic powder, fennel and thyme.
Here's another one I do to avoid the flour crust. Bake portobello mushroom in toaster oven for about 20-30 minutes at 350. Flip cup side up and add Contadina Pizza Sauce from squeeze bottle. Add topping of your choice and then back for 10 minutes more. Broil to brown cheese at the last.
Thanks for concern about my Mom. She assures me that she's okay. The nurse responded to her alert button, got her off the ground. The did a thorough BP check, etc... She takes massive aspirin doses for arthritis so I'm more concerned with extensive bruising. I'll call her tomorrow for follow-up.
Cindi
Hi Cindi.....that pizza sounds heavenly....I need to make that for sure!! Is there any sauce for it? Probably don't need it. I am going to make this after Gracie goes back home!!
Yes it felt good to get out... but it felt great to get back home!!!
That was Patricia (Pat) Root on Facebook that mentioned she got an electric canning pot. She is one of our OFF group members but only posts on Facebook now. She is always so busy!
I am glad your mom is okay after her fall. I suppose she feels bad admitting to such a thing happening. She has her pride too. It is good that she sees a foot doctor tomorrow. Let us know how that turns out ....okay?
I hope you get your finances in the order you want them. I don't have any so I don't have to think about that. my exes did a number on me. Oh well...done now!!
You have a good evening...love to you and hugs too...connie d
Cindi,
I'm going to Suzhou University not too far from Shanghi. I went either last year or the year before to Shangdong and hated every second of it. I think this time it might be better. I hate flying but I do travel internationally about twice a year...November, I'm going to New Zealand and Singapore and then the middle east and China in a couple of weeks...I hate it. I'm a coward and get so anxious when I fly.
Oh Mary,
Please forgive me. I failed to give my condolences on for your uncle. I'll keep your cousins in my prayers. My 32 year old nephew is special needs. My sis-in-law set up a trust for him, in the event of her death. My niece is the executrix of her will. Since her husband, my brother passed, my sister has assured my Mom that one third of her estate would be given to our niece and nephew as his inheritance. My sister is Mom's executrix. My other brother had no children, and never married. He's passed too. It's not much money, but that, plus my sis-in-law's insurance and house should help keep my nephew comfortable. He gets SSI, and has a part time job at a workshop for special needs adults. I'm so grateful my niece is married to a terrific guy that treats my nephew so well. He is a perfect addition to our family.
Love,
Trish
