Happy Thursday
Hello my OFF family:
Well, it's a rainy Thursday. We had thunderstorms last night; the power went out for awhile. I woke up and my fan was off, the a/c was off, my lights wouldn't light. Took my cellphone to the bathroom and used the flashlight with it, then suddenly the electricity kicked in again. That was at about 4 a.m. No storms now but it looks yucky out.
Got a text this morning that I had a prescription ready. Hmm... so I called the drugstore and it was a thyroid med. So I checked my email and there was a message from my doc saying I needed to be on this med. OK, not surprised there. He usually communicates this way, and that's fine. He's a man of few words anyway. I looked up hyperthyroidism, and I have a lot of the symptoms except for weight loss (why couldn't I have weight loss?) ... the shaky hands, the brittle nails, etc.
I hope the pool will be open today ... if it storms, everyone will be out of the pool. It's OK if it's just rain, but if it's lightning and thunder, it's everyone out of the pool.
So what are you doing today? Hope everyone is OK. Thinking of those with challenges, especially Vickie and her family. Hope Vickie can get some rest to stay strong.
Usually the high thyroid level indicates low thyroxin...they can only measure by the parathyroid levels. If you have hyper thyroid, you would have other test and you wouldn't be given thyroid medicine...probably, they would kill your thyroid with radiation and then put you on thyroid...but never would they give someone with hyperthyroidism any thyroid supplement.
My entire family (my sisters, nieces, and my daughter) all suffer from hypo or hyper thyroid problems. My daughter and two of my nieces have had to have their thyroid destroyed due to hyper or graves disease...the rest of us have hypo. I have been on 250 mcg of synthyroid practically my entire life. If you have hyper, make sure they keep a close eye on it so your eyes are not affected. We caught my daughter's early so she didn't get any of the bulging eyes, but two of my nieces were not diagnosed until after their eyes began bulging...they both had radiation too. Hypo thyroid usually has all of the symptoms of hyper except the weight loss and the rapid heart rate....hypo usually results in weight gain and slower heart rates...both cause hot flashes etc. I'm glad they found it and can treat it.
Good morning Eileen and everyone....
I am glad your power came on so quickly. We have been having some storms off and on. It is sunny right now at 62 degrees. The humidity is too high and will be through the weekend. They are saying temps in the 80s with humidity in the 90% range!!! We can expect storms too!!! I will be staying inside!!
I am happy your doctor got to you so quickly. The med will help a lot. I have the same thing and it is much harder to lose weight.
I hope you can get in the pool today!!
As for me... nothing here...I had an inspection of my apartment today and they said everything was perfect. I really wasn't concerned about it!
I am so so worried about Vickie. Bless her heart. More prayers and tons of love and hugs going her way....and for the girls as well.
Not feeling well and I need to walk yet....BLAH!!!
Wishing everyone a good day!! Lets do an Act of Kindness in honor of Vickie and Butch!!!
Prayers for our precious OFF Family and their families.
Special prayers for some who have asked.
Love and many hugs to you....connie d
Hello Eileen and all to come. It is hot here today, temp. is 90 but the humidity is terrible. Only went out to bring the recycle can back into the garage and I was soaked. Then went to the back and cleaned and refilled the bird baths and I'm still wet from that.
I need to do what Connie does and start walking around the neighborhood but now is not quite the time.
I am interested by your discussion about the thyroid. When I look at the symptoms of hypothyroid I have them all. My doctor checks my T4 and tells me everything is normal. I used to have a good doctor, but she retired to take care of her daughters who are teenagers. I just see this one renew my generic Effexor. I told him the blood work I needed because of my RNY, even brought my last tests from 18 months ago, and he told me that I don't need those, from what he ordered he saw I was doing just fine. Well, ME DON'T THING SO I will have to return to my surgeon's office to make sure, but since I gained some weight back I'm kind of embarrassed. I know this is when I SHOULD go! I am taking all my vitamins regularly, but still feel constantly tired.
Well enough about me. I hope you all have a peaceful day and don't overdo it. Praying for Judy's sister, hope there is a solution for her.
Thinking of Vickie and her daughters, must be a really hard time for them now.
Hugs to all,
Monique
Monique- Have your doctor refer you to an endocrinologist. My T4 is always normal but my TSH is high. I have Hasimoto's disease where I produce antibodies to my throid hormone. I have a goiter that begins to get large when my medication gets out of whack.
Don't be embarassed about going to your surgeons office with your weight gain. I have regained as well and they are always supportive at my surgeons office.

Eileen:
....did you misunderstand and have HYPOthyroid? I have for last 30 years and your symptons sound like hypothyroid than hyper...as to goiter, can happen whether hypo or hyper, but mostly latter. My Dad developed sub-clinical hyper, sub-clinical Graves, hospital did not nuke his thyroid or anything drastic, but he did lose weight effortlessly while developing deep somewhat raspy morning voice, no bug eyes....
If are to be on thyroid hormone such as Synthroid or Levothyroxine, chances are you misunderstood and have HYPOTHYROIDISM, which inhibits weightloss, makes you feel cold, tired, and messes with sleep. Sound familiar?
Thinking of Vickie and her Butch: today is visitation, and funeral service and internment tomorrow according to funeral parlour website...my heart goes out to her, going to be very hard 2 days, and then suddenly on Saturday she will probably collapse,or maybe not: she has been so strong for so long...
Hope everyone else is doing OK....
