temperature fluctuations
Hi everyone,
New to this, has vsg 5/19. On 6/17 I had lost 25lbs. haven't checked again. Having hard time getting the water in, and the protein. Haven't found a good tasting shake either already prepared or I make it myself. I'm 61 so way past menopause but I get these burst of hot flashes, didn't have this prior to surgery. Back to work next week and I'm worried. I work 12 hour shifts in an er and I just seem to tire so easily. Never had any pain or nausea. Do you think the fatigue could be from so much less calories?

Welcome. I had a VSG four years ago. Flashes could be due to fat cells releasing estrogen as you are burning them up. If you have thyroid problems could be that you meds need to be adjusted due to the weight loss. I had to have mine adjusted several times the first year after surgery.
As for protein drinks. I have tried a number of them. Muscle milk is pretty good. I also use the Unjury protein powders. You can get them in individual packets and as you heal more you can add fruit and greek yogurt to boost your shake.
I found that fatigue was normal for about six months after surgery. You might want to see about some B12 for energy. I suspect that the fatigue is lack of protein. The first six months I focused on trying to get at least 60-90 grams of protein a day.
Hang in there.

Hi!
I am still pre-op, but have been working my way down calorie-wise to prepare for after surgery. Right now I average 1600 calories daily, but have gone as low as 800-1000 some days. On my very low days I feel very sluggish so I would have to agree lower calories could be a factor. All I know about the protein & water is they say you have to get them in!
I use cellucor protein drink. It is about $40/tub off Amazon. It tastes like a milk shake to me even tho I make it w/almond milk! My granddaughter really likes them, too! It is 25 grams of protein & low carb.
Best of luck! I have getting the sleeve in September & can't wait!

Nashua Nutrition sells samples of all types of protein powders, for $1.95 each. Go to the site, on the left side column click on Protein Powders, then at the top of the screen, where it says Protein Powders, where it says "Sort By: Name, click on the arrow and then click on Price. The first picture is a scoop of protein powder, click on that. You'll see a box that says Bariatric Advantage--click and then you'll see a list of various brands and flavors. I got samples of Bariatric Advantage, Chike, Click and Syntrax (Matrix and Nectars). I tried chocolates, Mochas, chicken soup, unflavored and fuzzy navel. It's a good way to try lots of different flavors without buying huge tubs. I buy GNC protein maxx, and also some of the syntrax nectars, and I like the coffee flavors too. I make protein coffee--hot coffee, and I add a scoop of chocolate protein - which I mix into my coffeemate first so it doesn't clump up.
Congratulations on your progress to date.
