Sunday Greetings
Hello All,
I was up until 1 AM, but as soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out. Today, we are driving the kids home (about two hours away), so I've already mentioned to the kids that we should leave early, but they want to hang around until the last possible minute. They think our little apartment is a hotel, LOL, and they love the parking lot. They live way out in the country and cannot use their skate boards, so they come here and have what they think is really cool city life. If they only knew.
Yesterday, I spent most of the day and night in my office at the university working on a chapter in a book. I was asked to expand a conference presentation into a chapter for an anthology addressing teaching English as a second language. I need a rough draft to the editor by the 15th, which is fast approaching....and I have been cowriting an article with one of our accounting professors and my part of that article is due Tuesday. I am kicking my butt for not getting all of this done last week. I did collect and analyze data for the accounting article but the actual explanation has been long coming....so I went to work on my stuff and two of my PhD students showed up and asked could they work on their dissertations in the writing center (it was officially closed) and how could I refuse them so we had a writing workshop in the writing center for about nine hours. They ordered pizza and I ate the melted cheese off of one slice and we drank coffee and talked about research and we wrote and then around midnight, I told them I had to head out...I guess sometime today, I will go back and work a little more. Sadly, I cannot write at home because of my cats--they refuse to leave me alone, and my husband, who thinks when I am working I should be able to just stop and make small talk or sandwiches...well you know.
Vic, I hate those nights when I cannot sleep, and it's happening more and more. Judy, grilling sounds wonderful. I have some chicken wings in the refrigerator that I am thinking of cooking in the oven with a lot of barbecue sauce. They would be better grilled but we gave our grill and smoker to my daughter.
I hope you guys all have a restful day.
Oh, last night, around midnight, when I was coming home from my office, I noticed a lot of flashing lights, and I realized the cops were out because this is a college town and it was midnight on Saturday night, and I was traveling on a road that leads from the popular hangouts for college kids, so I drive cautiously up to the cops, and one has his flashlight and he looks in the car and says, what are you doing out this late, and I said, working, and he said, you work at the university, and I said, yeah, I'm faculty and he said, oh, then go on through and I said, you don't need my license, and he said, no, and I said, you don't need to do a drunk test, and he said, no, but if you want to, I can have you walk a line, and I said, no, that might prove difficult even on a good day and he laughed and I drove through...at the stop light, I texted my two students and said, road blocks, make sure you guys don't hang out in the parking lot and smoke that wacky tobacky and get thrown in jail.....they stayed in the writing center LOL
Hi Jeannie....WOW you had a busy night!! I hope you manage to get everything done on time. Knowing you it won't be a problem!! I laughed about the cats not letting you work at home. I can just picture it!!
I laughed even harder at the cops stopping you...and your conversation with them....that was great....I needed the laughs!! Then you texting your students about the road blocks and the wacky tobacky . Then they decided to stay at the writing center!! LOL!!!!!!
Keep sending me the humor...I can use it!!!
Much love to you...hugs.....connie d
Good morning Trish and everyone...
Trish....I am glad you are having a quiet weekend. Sorry you have to spend the afternoon filing taxes. My friend Pam has to do hers too...problem for her is she never knows where her information is. She is wonderful but by far the biggest procrastinator I know!!!
As for me....Amanda and Tyler will be here soon. I still need to get in the shower so this will be quick.
I ended up going to do some grocery shopping with Pam in the evening. I needed to get a few things for when the kids are here. I am taking them out to dinner to Amanda's favorite place...The Mexican Village. They really do have the best food by far!!
If I knew I was going with Pam shopping I wouldn't have done the laundry right before she got here. I am still zapped!!!
Wishing everyone a beautiful day!!! It is sunny and warm here, just like I like it!!
Prayers for our sweet OFF Family and their families. Prayers as always for Vickie and Butch. I hope Vickie and her mom get everything done they needed to get done. I am hoping all went well with Butch and Lisa.
Lots of love and bunches of hugs to all.....connie d
Hi Connie,
I was checking in again but got sidetracked when my sister called.
I posted how I fell in the Nursery. I didn't break anything, but I'll be sore for a few days.
Enjoy your visit with the kids. I enjoy fajitas when I go to Mexican restaurants. Haven't had one in ages.
Weather here is glorious. I opened the window, to air out the house.
Love you,
Trish

Hi Trish...no problem...we need to talk to family too!
I have to go back and read about your fall. I am glad you didn't break anything. I hope you are okay.
I enjoyed every moment with my granddaughter, Amanda and my soon to be grandson, Tyler. They are so fun and love me so much!!! It was so good for my heart to have them here. They decided they weren't going anywhere once they found out what shape I was in. They ended up making "Mexican" here...it was wonderful!!!! They are great cooks. I felt bad but they insisted we were not leaving my apartment. Good thing I bought groceries yesterday!! I had everything they needed. They know I keep things really stocked up!!
I have had windows open all day too. It was just gorgeous outside!!
Have a good evening...love and hugs to you....connie d
I'm back.
Mary, I love playing with bubbles with the kids. Lincoln has a bubble machine, which is fun. I love the different bubble wands. I'm a kid in an adult body.
Judy, I hope that gal comes in to look at the apartment for her Dad. You're a sweetie I need to put my new grill together. I hope Trent finishes my back patio this Spring. I bought a table and chairs from Colleen at her yard sale last year. Ironically, they bought it from me in 2001, coz her Dad and I sold the house, and she and Trent moved here. One off the chairs was destroyed by one of the critters that takes up residence in their shed. But, the other three, and the table are still good. I remember putting it together years ago.
Jeannie, I'm glad you made it home safe last night. I probably couldn't walk a straight line stone cold sober at any time of the day or night.
Well, I'm a bit sore. I fell in the Nursery, landing on my left hip, exactly where my bursitis is. I'm icing it right now. My sandal got stuck on the carpet and boom. There was nobody in the Nursery, and I was putting laundry away, while listening to the sermon. I must have cried out, coz my friend in Toddlers came over. She helped me get back up. She covered Toddlers during Sunday School, so I could come home and put ice on my hip.
I better get some lunch together. I also want to put some spaghetti sauce on the stove. It takes all day to get it just right.
Must scoot again.
Love, Hugs and Prayers,
Trish

HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Hi Trish and my OFF family:
Well, my brother and I met for breakfast this morning and then I sent him on his way. Then I came home and told Richard we were going to Walmart to get his meds. He has been off one of his antidepressants for 10 days and was in a deep funk ... and of course it doesn't help he is waiting on Medicaid, disability, etc., and has no money and has to depend on me. He didn't want to go, but I dragged him out. He was pretty low when we were at Walmart, but I got him up and back. When I got back, I got an email from a guy who was interested in buying Richard's bike. That perked Richard right up. He couldn't stop talking about it. Eventually, the guy came over, took it over to the friend he wanted to show it to; he left a small deposit and his card. When they came back, the woman had the rest of the money. Richard was so excited. He explained everything about the bike, she paid the money and they left. When they left, Richard counted the money and it was only $180 (the guy had left $33 as a deposit; I gave it back, figuring she had the whole $200). Oh well, I said, it's still money you didn't have. About five minutes later, there's a knock on the door and the guy comes back with the other $20. I thought that was nice.
Richard is so happy he has money (plus he has his drugs in his system so, while I know they don't take immediate effect, he is getting some help in evening out his moods). Although when he was OCDing, the house got cleaned.
I enjoyed my time with my brother, but I'm pooped. Got up way too early every day. Took a nap this afternoon while watching the White Sox game (they won, and I didn't miss much while napping). Talked to mom again; she was disappointed she didn't call me on my birthday or get me a gift. I told her she's gotten me plenty of gifts.
So life is good here right now in the Tri-State area (so named because it's the corner of Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky). My brother made it home all right, Richard has his drugs and some money, and I'm happy because the White Sox won and all is right with the world. And I made it to 60.
Trish, I may procrastinate on other things, but never on my taxes because I usually get a refund. Got to get that money back right away.
Don't remember much of anything else. Have a good day. I'm watching more baseball. Still on vacation till Thursday.
Hi Eileen....I am so happy Richard got his pills!!! He will feel so much better tomorrow. I am glad to know he sold his bike. Now he has money to take care of himself the rest of the month. If he spends wisely it can easily last him that long. He will feel better about himself too. I know he was feeling bad about having no money.
So Gary made his way home again. I hope you two had a great time together!!
"60"....I wish I was 60!!!! It really is just a number! That is what I have to remind myself everyday!!! My brain and heart feel so young....the rest of me...NO not so much!!
It was wonderful that that guy brought back the extra $20. Not too many people would do that anymore! I would!!
Love and more hugs to you...connie d
