Hoping for any feedback....

My Sleeve surgery date is April 1, today I had my appointment with the gastroenterologist. He said I need an endoscopy and he recommended a colonoscopy since I am 61 years old and never had one before……I am a bit nervous about the preparation and the procedure…but even though is not required I will have it done because I think after the Sleeve, the preparation will be more uncomfortable.
I would appreciate any feedback.
Hi Natalie,
I've had several colonoscopies, and also a similar prep for my RNY. It's not as terrible as it could be, and well worth it. My ex had one when he was in his late thirties, due to some IBS symptoms. They found polyps, so not he's had to get them regularly. My kids were told to get them because of the hereditary risk.
Just plan on staying at home with some reading material. It'll be over before you know it.
Hugs,
Trish

Since colon cancer runs in my family (dad died from it), I had a colonoscopy in my 40s when I was found to be anemic; also had one when I hit 50. The first one was well before I had gastric bypass; the second was after I had it, and the prep was way different. I've since had another one, although I was told 10 years (new doctor wanted to see a new one) and had problems doing the prep that was prescribed; I had to do a second day of prep (don't want to scare you, but turns out I had polyps, so that may be why I couldn't get completely cleaned out, although the GI doc said it was improperly done prep).
The worst part is the prep, but after that, you're under for the procedure and don't remember a thing. So don't worry about it.
