So Sad but So Grateful
Hi Girls.....
What a day! We got home around 6pm from the VA hospital. We definitely will keep going but I have to tell you, emotionally it's draining. We met one Soldier in particular who has a severe brain injury and he suffers from PTSD. Baron, our Big Boy Border Collie was his for the better part of 2 hours. He wouldn't let our Baron go. There was a period of time, about 20 minutes (even though it felt like hours) that he held on to our boy around the neck. He hugged him so tight. We were so proud of our Big Boy, he didn't flinch an inch but just sat with his head on the Sargeant's lap. My husband stayed with them both. I had to leave the room. It's funny how you take the simple things for granted. This young man just wanted something to hold on to and hug. My heart was so full that we could make that happen. All the fella's wanted to know when we were coming back. My husband promised them another visit next week Sat. or Sunday. These men never asked to be hurt and they NEVER expect pity. I could post pics but out of respect for them and their privacy they'll have to stay in my memory after I delete them from my camera.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm one of the luckiest girls in the world to have been given the gift of weight loss surgery. Everytime I think about eating what I shouldn't or want to complain that something hurts, I will always have to remember what I saw today.
Yesterday is a memory ~ Today is a gift, that's why it's called the present. Tomorrow is my future.
Blessings to all in 2015.

How awesome that you have a comfort dog, and that you visit the veterans. Did Baron have special training? I'd like to be able to use my dog as a comfort dog, but I think he'd have to be trained for it first. He's a comfort to me, but not sure he'd be appropriate without training.
Whenever I go to my hematologist I see cancer patients who are there for chemo treatments. They handle leukemia patients in addition people like me with a clotting disorder. When I lived in Pennsylvania, I had to have my iron infusions in a big room with chemo patients. I learned right away, to be grateful. I may have a slew of health issues, but I call them nuisance health problems. I don't complain.
Hugs,

Kim GOD BLESS YOU & Your Husband & Dogs for what you are doing for these veterans!!!! It IS heartbreaking yet heart lifting to see the joy when they are with the dogs!!! I am sure it is also sad to see them with the dogs also!!! Sorry we can't see the pictures you took but I do understand why you can't share.
There is/was a show on tv I saw one night can't seem to find it again on where they get a veteran teamed up with a dog. OMG that was FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! Talk about tears!!!!!!!! I loved it!!!! Wish I could remember what channel it was on and the name of the show!! I was flipping channels and came across it...
