May I join you?
Hello,
My name is Kim and I am 5 weeks out from RNY surgery. I have been lurking on the OH boards since I got home from the hospital, but just found this board today. I would like to have somewhere to post my daily struggles and successes. This group seems like a very welcoming bunch:)
I am doing well so far. I am struggling a little bit with head hunger. I want to eat more than I am able to. Some days I am a little nervous because I don't really feel full after eating the amount I am supposed to eat. Other days I feel stuffed. I am able to get all of my water and protein in with no problem for the most part. I know this is all normal.
I have a husband and 4 sons, ages 31,21,19 and 16. I also have a 7 year old granddaughter. My husband has been an angel throughout this whole ordeal. My recovery was more complicated because I also had a major hernia repair at the same time as the RNY. The pain was pretty intense for about 4 weeks. But I am feeling much better now. Anyway, that's all for now. I hope to come here daily.
Kim,
Welcome. You will find the members of this group supportive and caring.
I will start with my gift of information and support in the recommendation that you read the book The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients by Colleen Cook. It helps me so much. I have reread it twice.
I had my surgery one year ago Dec 23. I have lost 115 lbs. Ihad lost 30 in the two years before surgery. It was the best decision i have ever made. I had a knee replacement in June and had the other knee done in April 2013. I go to to the gym 4 ~ 5 times a week. I want to lose another 70 lbs to get to 175~180. I am 5'10" (really upset because i h a ve suffered the shrink of two inches that comes with arthritis).
Anyway, congratulations on making the best decision for your health.
If you have questions or worries, just ask because the ladies in this group are really great about resonding.
Good luck.
Welcome Kim....you sure are welcome to join in with us!!!
We have a daily thread that any one of us starts for the day. Everyone joins in about their day. We discuss anything and everything. We are here to support each other!!
We will be glad to help you in any way we can. It sounds like you are doing great already. I am glad the pain is better. Are you walking some each day?? Glad you are getting your protein in and your water. Have you tried sugar free Popsicles? I used to eat those in between when I felt hungry. That also goes towards your water intake. Sugar free Jello is a freebie too!!
Maybe you are eating too fast and getting done before your brain says you have had enough. Try to change up your eating....don't eat the same things every day.
Ask anything you want....nothing is to silly to ask. If one of us can't answer just wait a bit and someone else will.
I look forward to getting to know you better!!
HUGS.....connie d
Hi Connie,
Thanks for the welcome. I am walking a bit every day and at work. I got a Fit Bit tracker for Christmas. I haven't really had any sugar free popsicles or jello since the clear liquid stage. I do still have some. I will try today if I am hungry. I do need to concentrate on eating slowly and chewing very well. I do cook for my hubby and kids so different food for dinner at night but I tend to eat the same things for breakfast and lunch. Maybe time to shake things up a bit.
Off to work. I will check back tonight.
Kim
Hi Kim and WELCOME!!!!
Are you waiting to eat atleast a 1/2 hour to an hour after drinking before eating? And then waiting and hour to drink again after you are done eating? That might help you if you are not doing that. If you drink to soon after eating you are washing the food out of your pouch. Waiting before you eat makes room for the food in your pouch to keep you full longer. That is what I was told when I had my RNY back in Oct of 2006.
Keep coming back we are a great group to help you out!! And NO question is a silly one!!!
HUGSSSSSSSSSSS
Hi Judy,
Thanks for the welcome. My surgeon told me 30 minutes before and after eating for the water. But an hour after makes more sense. I have been trying to follow the rules pretty closely. It is strange. I had 3 ounces of chicken for lunch and still felt like I could eat more. I had 3 oz of sirloin steak for dinner (my first attempt) and I was stuffed. I have not really had any problems with tolerating any food. I am not sure that is a good thing.
