New Year and New Year's Resolutions

For those of us who have struggled with our weight, we have had those New Year’s Resolutions that involved one or more of the following:  1) I will lose weight; 2) I will drink more water; 3) I will exercise….or we do the 1) I will not be controlled by my numbers; 2) I will get healthy…..     I think all of us have done the same thing either explicitly proclaiming to lose weight or implicitly proclaiming to lose weight through our covert words “getting healthy” or “doing better”.   Every year, our dean has us develop new projects and report on the projects from the last year, and so as I was working on the new projects (it’s hard to come up with projects for a writing center), I thought about the objectives for my own life and how my health and my husband’s health has kind of clipped my wings.   So I decided that he and I would discuss doable objectives for our diet and for our exercise.  Then, we talked about what we wanted to accomplish in our daily lives.   I am a really organized person and he is a total hoarder and as you can guess, that makes me crazy, so we talked about how to get our life in order in this little apartment (we moved out of our house into the apartment in order to simplify while we work toward moving to the Middle East) and while I have simplified, he has not.   So, we broke our goals into health, personal, living, and professional.  I thought it might be a good idea to post this on our forum and see if others want to have a New Year’s day of hope…hope for something better in 2015 than we had or we did in 2014.   I also thought we might do the personal, health, living, and professional…or you can divide your goals into what fits your life.  Like, Judy, you could put limits on how much time you give the old coots where you work; Vic, you are like me, a pushover for the grandbabies, so you might give yourself permission to say no.

We might give monthly reports or quarterly reports.   What do you guys think?   If you want to do this, post your goals and I will post mine but I don’t want to post mine and be the only one who puts her life out there as an open book. LOL.   Let me know?

I think this would be a great idea. However, right now I can't do much because of my pain and balance issues. I would be willing to try to do way better with my eating and try to push harder with my walking. Walking an extra walk in the evening if I can. I HATE using this walker!!!! But, for now I have to be patient. I just changed doctors and she really wants to look hard into my issues and help me to feel better. I see her on January 14th. She allotted a whole hour of her day just for me. She wants so much to help me.

I am in ...even if it isn't giant steps!!!

Love and hugs...connie d

This is a fantastic idea.  I always try to set goals each year, and assess how far I made toward reaching them.

For 2015, my goals are as follows:

Health-get to the gym 3-4 times a week, alternating swimming, the elliptical and strength training.  I also want to wean off the sugar again.

Personal: build on the friendships I am making with some of the women here.  Also, attend at least two AA meetings a week.  I've slacked in that area.

Living: get two things organized, my finance and my house.  I am not organized at all.

Professional: Apply for my Michigan social work license and find a part time job, and work toward becoming a substitute teacher locally.

I also like the idea of checking in here regularly, in order to be more accountable.

Thanks for suggesting this.  I'm looking forward to getting started on this, starting tomorrow.  Why bother waiting till Thursday.

Hugs,

Trish
