SUNDAY WHAT'S HAPPENING?????????
Judy, with my cats, the vet suggested either adding canned pumpkin or yogurt (plain, unsweetened yogurt) to food to help with the diarrhea. Cinnamon was the one with the runs when he had chronic renal failure. He didn't like either choice, so I never knew if it worked.
Glad you had a good time over Christmas. My mom is settling into the nursing home for now, but we will move her to a more permanent home nearer to where my oldest brother and SIL will live. I talked with her today and she sounds better; she's over her cold and she has medication for the esophagitis, but she's afraid to eat because she doesn't want to vomit blood again. I think the fact she has been taking Celebrex for so long can't have a good effect (plus a baby aspirin). I'm sure they're giving her Nexium or Prilosec or something like that.
Anyway, I think she's getting better care there than with the idiot caregivers we had the past year that had been costing so much and doing nothing. The one didn't know what meds to give Mom when or what they were. She didn't spot Mom when she was walking (they're supposed to put this belt on her and hold it behind her ... well, she walked in front of her and that's how mom fell). My brother ripped into her for that.
Eileen I tried all those and they never worked so for now he is doing great on just his food!!! He doesn't miss treats or people food at all!!!
What was that aid thinking in walking BEHIND your mom????? How did she think that would be of any help if she fell????? DUMB ASS!!!!!! Hope your brother reported her to where she worked!!!!! Glad your mom is doing better!! Prayers continue for her and your family!!!
HUGSSSSSSSSS
No, Judy, the problem with the aide was she was walking in front of mom instead of behind her holding onto her with the belt. Yeah, Gary cussed her out good, screamed at her and then reported her to the head of the agency. That was the last straw and why Mom went into the rehab facility right away. At least those people know how to take care of her.
Hey Judy,
Good to hear you took a trip to see your mom and the rest of your family. I am busy doing leg lifts and knee flexes so that I am back on the treadmill soon. It's funny how one change in your exercise program can throw a clog in your entire system of either losing or maintaining weight. For the last couple of months, I have not been running, walking much, or doing any other type of exercise and I gained five pounds. If I can at least get back to the treadmill, I know I can get that weight off. So, when I go to the doctor next week, I am in hopes that he says the treadmill can be part of my therapy. LOL. I am leaving for the Middle East in a four weeks, and I am hoping that I don't have to use a cane. My goal is to get on the treadmill, walk four miles without interruption or without holding on to the bars on the treadmill; if I can do that, I know I can navigate my layover in Heathrow. My husband keeps trying to get me to cancel but I don't think I need to cancel.
We still have my granddaughter (six years old) and she has been helping me when DH is at work. She helped me make potato soup. She brought the potatoes to me and she and I peeled and cubed them, she washed them and pu****er over them, and then she put on the stove and turned the burner on...I supervised. LOL. Then when they were done, I drained off most of the water (she over did the liquid), and I had her pour a fourth cup of heavy cream, some cheddar cheese, some leftover from breakfast bacon, and corn. She said, Nana, I make the best potato soup ever, don't I? She is such a sweet baby. Last night, she read Little Women to me. I know that is a hard book to read, but we have had her reading hard books since she started reading and she is in first grade but reading with the sixth graders. She read the chapter to me that was the sisters Christmas. It was such a good chapter. The boys are coming up tomorrow, so I will have three good nurses. LOL. I am so glad that most of you have had a good Christmas. My birthday is coming up and I am hitting the big six O. My husband keeps telling me that sixty is no different than turning 50 or 40, but I remind him of Cher's words: I've been poor and I've been rich; rich is better. I've been forty and I've been fifty; forty is better. I agree with Cher...well, I don't know about the rich part; but I have been poor and upper middle class is so much better than being poor. I do have to say that fifty for me was better than forty because I had WLS during my early 50s and lost all that weight. Well, I've rambled enough. I hope you guys' day goes well. I am heading off to write a post for our dance club...sadly I am now just doing a news letter. LOL. But, hopefully I will be back in full swing by the time I get back from the ME.
Hi Jeannie...I am glad you are doing so much better since your surgery. It sounds like you are doing all the exercises necessary and then some. That is you...you always go above and beyond! That is what I love about you!! You are the most determined person I know!!!! You be careful about giving up that cane too soon. I know all about that!! You have four weeks to work on that four miles of walking. I have no doubt you will succeed!!
You will be 60 huh? That is a nice number. I am sure you barely look 50 anyway!! Well Happy Early Birthday!!!!
Your granddaughter sounds like a real sweetheart!! I am sure she has been very helpful. I am sure she made the "best soup ever"!!! She reminds me of my Gracie. She loves to cook and read as well. She started reading very young and is way ahead of her class. You must be so proud of your granddaughter!! She sounds just so sweet and smart!!!
Lots of love and many hugs to you....connie d
Connie,
I know I do push the envelop when it comes to getting back to where I was before the knee just went crazy. Before I left the hospital, the doctor said he wanted me to do leg lifts and foot flexes and knee flexes (holding the knee down by lifting the foot) and some knee bending. When I first started, DH had to help me lift my leg for the leg lifts because no matter how hard I ordered my leg to work, it just wouldn't but after the first day, I had it down. I guess my leg had to learn again how to let those muscles lift it. LOL. I do over a hundred leg lifts a couple of times a day and I read online that a week after surgery, it's okay to put a two pound weight on the thigh to increase the resistance which will increase the muscle. So, yep, I will add the weights Tuesday. I don't think everyone can push themselves like I do but I am so afraid that I will end up back in the wheel chair and after spending 8 years unable to walk or even stand, I am super diligent about keeping my legs in working order. These granddaughters are our hearts, aren't they? It is so fun to teach them the things we know. I wish we lived closed to each other and we could have a granddaughter/grandmother's day. Stay warm, my friend.
Awwww Jeannie....wouldn't it be great to have a grandmother/granddaughter's day!!!!! That just made me smile thinking about that. I just wish we lived closer to so we could get together now and then!!!!
Keep working at that knee....if anyone can do this you can!!!!
I am working on staying warm...I am not going outside....brrrrr!! I am glad we don't have to pay for heat here!!
Give that sweet little granddaughter a squeeze from me!!!!
Love you much....HUGS....connie d
Hi Jeannie!!! WOW!!! You are doing great!!! How long ago has it been since your surgery? Don't ru**** or you could hurt it.
That little granddaughter sounds like a little gem!!!! Sad that I missed mine in their growing up years...now they are teenagers....sighs......oh well.
Yes these "older" years can be a pain for us but we get through them!!! One day at a time.
Enjoy your trip and like I said...be careful not to rush your therapy!!!
HUGSSSSSSSSS
Judy,
I had surgery on the 23ird. The doctor removed torn cartilage and repaired my ACL which he thought he was going to have to replace and I thought he had replaced, but he was able to repair it with some fancy cement stuff. LOL. He did say this is the last time he is going to work on it (this is my third knee surgery in 20 years), so over the summer, looks like I'll be getting a knee replacement...I'm not too thrilled but he showed us the inside of my knee and I have bone spurs and scar build up on my bones from all the arthritis and he said that if he doesn't take the knee cap off and shave all of that down and put the titanium caps on, my knee will become totally dysfunctional. So, I am going to let him do it. I'm so glad your son paid for your room. That was so sweet.
