Gobble Gobble Wednesday!
Good morning sistas!
It's Thanksgiving EVE today. Do you have your grocery shopping done? I don't! I'm headed to the store this morning. It's going to be a nightmare, but I'm going very early. Perhaps I'll be able to get in and out without too much trouble.
I have so much to tell y'all about our trip to MDA yesterday. I already wrote a post on Care Pages, so if you don't mind, I'll just copy and paste part of it here:
We are newly returned from the latest round of chemo at MDA, and we are feeling very encouraged! Butch's blood work showed that the cancer markers are down AGAIN! The chemo is definitely working and Dr. Tu is very pleased. He was actually SMILING during our visit yesterday. This made us feel great!
So, Dr. Tu made the decision to try a different combination of chemo drugs on Butch to attack his specific type of prostate cancer (which is extremely uncommon). It has been a very innovative approach. One of the chemo drugs is a standard and proven protocol used to treat prostate cancer. But Dr. Tu has combined it with another proven chemo drug used to treat certain types of breast cancer. Why? Because both breast cancer and prostate cancer are hormonal cancers.
In Dr. Tu's words, "Breast is ahead of us [prostate] in research and development." I guess breast cancer awareness has generated millions of research dollars and projects. At any rate, Dr. Tu observed that certain types of metastasized breast cancer behave in much the same way as Butch's type of metastasized prostate cancer, and he theorized that the same chemo drug could be used to treat both. Well, it looks like maybe he is right!
Yesterday Dr. Tu was talking about how the chemo is working, and the next step (for him, at least) is to then prove that it works and then write up a new protocol for treating anaplastic prostate cancer. I told Butch, "You're going to be famous!" LOL!
So, as you can see, we had a very good visit and we are feeling very encouraged and hopeful today. We will also be able to have Butch's next chemo (in December) done in San Antonio, which will save us a trip to Houston. We will go back to MDA in January for scans and assessment and maybe the last round of chemo. Dr. Tu says it usually takes 4 to 6 rounds of chemo is achieve optimum results.
We are still waiting to hear back from the sellers about our offer on that house! I will call our realtor today to see if she has heard anything from the other realtor. I don't know if the sellers have even received our offer yet! I mean, why would they take so long to counter back??? It's very strange and unlike any other real estate deal we have ever been involved in. Sure would like to arrive at a price point and put an earnest money contract down on it soon. I want to tie it up before someone else gets it!
Mom and Carrie are coming down from Waco today. Carrie just had too much to do yesterday for them to get off at a decent hour, so they decided to spend another night in Waco and make the trip today. I know the traffic will be heavy, but hopefully they won't have any problems making the trip.
Talked to Chris and her ankle is feeling better. She's still in the boot, but she says she's getting around better now and the pain is much better, too.
Well, I need to shower and then get to the store early! Lots to do today, but I'm grateful and happy to be doing it. I love you all!
Hi Vickie and my OFF family:
Glad to hear the chemo is working and Butch is doing better. Hope you hear from the realtor soon.
Found out today that instead of getting turkey and the fixings at work tomorrow we'll get cold cuts, chips and cookies for working the holiday. Not quite a Thanksgiving feast. Glad I made my own. The turkey wings were good, but no wing tips, which are my favorites (nice and crispy) . But everything else was good. Then I watched the last two episodes of Season 3 of "Call the Midwife." Unfortunately, it was the series finale ... I will miss it! If you haven't seen it and you have a chance to see it on Netflix, watch it! Very good series.
I have my final (I hope!!) appointment with my foot doc and PT, then home and not much else planned. Maybe haul out a box or two for Christmas decorating. Back is still bothering me so it won't be much. I will take it out one at a time. Some of the boxes are in the back bedroom, so they are hard to get at.
Well, have a good day.
Happy Thanksgiving Eileen! I remember your turkey wings. It's a good way for you to make just enough turkey for one!
If I ever get a chance to watch TV again, I'm going to watch that "Call the Midwife" show. I've heard about it from several sources. I also plan to order Harry Potter for my Nook or Kindle and start that series, too. Thanks!
Hope you get a good report from the foot doctor. Don't overdo it today. What is the scoop on Richard? Haven't heard you mention him in awhile. Is he coming back?
Eileen seems to me they coud have ordered a fully cooked TURKEY DINNER for you all!!! GEZZZ Glad you will be having your wings though!! What happened to the tips?? Weird!!!
Glad your foot is doing better!!!
Decorating...gosh I don't even want to think about that yet!!! LOL I have TWO clubhouses to do and my apartment...thinking no apartment this year...not going to be home anyhow...maybe Rick's fiberoptic tree will be it??
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
HUGSSSSSSSSS
Midday report:
SO, the sellers did not counter back with a lower offer. Instead they invited us to make ANOTHER offer! Haven't ever heard of anyone doing this before, have y'all? Well, live and learn. (I'm glad I'm not a realtor.)
So we made another offer this morning. Upped our original offer by $10K. We'll see what happens. Stuff like this drives me nuts. I am NOT a good bargainer. Butch is. He can hang tough. I can't. I fold up immediately.
Made my run to the store. Got there before 9 a.m. and it was already crowded, but nothing like it's gonna be later today! If it was on my list, it got bought. If I forgot something, we'll do without! LOL! I don't think we're going to starve.
Need to get started on my prep work and make-ahead foods. Today I'm baking a pecan pie, making home made cranberry sauce (easy peasy), and prepping my vegetables for a veggie tray. Easy day for me. Carrie and Mom want to bake a gingerbread after they get here this afternoon, so I'll try to be done with my cooking and out of their way before they arrive.
Check back later!
Good morning/afternoon Vickie, Eileen and everyone...
Vickie....I am so so excited about Butch's progress. You have a fantastic doctor!! Now you both will be famous. Autographs please!!!!
I know you will be extremely busy with family the next few days. I also know how happy that makes you!!! I am so glad to hear that Christie is doing better!!
I will miss your pecan pie....LOL!! I love you!!
Eileen....what a dingy I am!!! I wanted some turkey thighs for tomorrow. They were out so I bought chicken. I love wings!! They had some but I didn't even think them!!!
That is a pretty crummy Thanksgiving meal they are providing for the staff at your paper. I think they could have done better. After all it is a holiday!!
I am praying this is your last PT appointment and you can walk without that clumsy boot!!!! Have a great day....love you much!!!
I am glad Trish let us know she made it to PA safely. I am sure she will have a great time!!
As for me....still hanging in my apartment...I am really getting tired of this!! Too many sick people are wandering around. I still can't imagine going to eat lunch like they do when they are sick. I had a tray yesterday. I ate the turkey burger and froze the rest. I will get my tray today. I will freeze it because it is spaghetti and meat sauce w/ garlic bread. I am not read to handle that yet!
Wishing you all a wonderful day!!
Prayers for our amazing OFF Family and their families.
Much love and m,any hugs to all....connie d
Connie, I've been out of the boot for a week. Foot doc is very happy and so am I. I have another week of PT at least, but don't see the doc for two months.
After PT, I gave blood (yes, my doc has said I can do this and my iron level is fine). I got home and a neighbor came over to ask me if I could give her car a jump-start. After a few tries, we got it done. I think I'm collecting all sorts of karma points today. Before I went to donate, I was in Starbucks having coffee and I got a text that my paycheck was deposited ... that's even earlier than usual. I was really happy about that.
Hi Eileen....I must have missed the post about you getting the boot off...CRS!!! I am just so glad that you are healing well!!!
That was nice of you to help jump start your neighbor's car. That was so nice of you to do that for her.
See you here tomorrow....I am glad you enjoyed your turkey and such!!!
Love to you and lots of HUGS too...conie d
