Wednesday's update
We had a terrible night Tuesday night, but there is always some good to be found, even in the scariest cir****tances.
Yesterday evening something "popped" in Butch's right shoulder. It was horrible. The pain was extreme. Between the pain in his back and the new pain in his shoulder, it was more than we could handle in the hotel room by ourselves. I called 911 and they transferred him to the ER at MDA.
Very long night in the ER, but we were finally admitted to the hospital around 5 a.m. This has turned out to be such a blessing. He finally has the pain meds he needs to remain comfortable most of the time. And all the medical people are now coming to us, rather than us having to wheel around to all the different departments and sit (in pain and discomfort) in various waiting rooms. God can work in wondrous ways.
He did have x-rays of his shoulder last night (around midnight) but they were inconclusive as to what is causing the intense pain. Nothing appears to be broken, but something is definitely wrong. So he will be having an MRI on his shoulder late this afternoon.
The pain in his back is also intense, and he will be having a full MRI of his spine and pelvic region tomorrow.
After all of that, they will try and schedule the bone biopsy, but it looks like that will be next week, most likely. The doctor said that Butch couldn't stand to have the procedure done right now anyway. His pain needs to be under control before they attempt the biopsy.
So while we still do not know what the cancer is yet, he is receiving the pallative care he needs right now. Please pray for wisdom and guidance on the part of the many doctors who are now involved in his case. Please pray that Butch can receive the pain relief he so desperately needs and can begin to regather his strength for the battle ahead. And please pray for me that I can remain rested enough and strong enough to care for my husband and continue being his advocate through this confusing and bewildering maze of medical terminology and procedures.

HUGSSSSSSSSSSS
Vickie,
I hope the fact that Butch is now resting in a hospital bed, with the pain meds he can now receive as an inpatient, gives you the ability to rest more. When I was in the hospital with my serious leg injury, I was getting Dilaudid, by IV, and Oxycodone by pill, at the same time. I can't imagine how bad Butch's pain has been. But, I do know that they can give him stronger pain meds via IV, than in pill form.
I'm still praying, and won't stop.
Love you,
Trish
