Also...my sister said the neurologist will be there in the morning ??? to talk about the MRI something about a narrowing in her brain or something she wasn't sure. WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the more I am sitting here thinking the more I am planning on another trip to MICHIGAN this weekend!!!!!!!! I can't afford it but I am going to go!!!!!!! I HAVE TOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Peace of mind for me!!!!!!! I sat here and YELLED at my sister!!! I know its not her fault...she can't drive and she ALSO has to depend on our idiot brothers for information. BUT she CAN get someone to take her there to hospital and she CAN also CALL the hospital easier than I can!!!!!!!!!! I have my cell phone and that eats up my minutes waiting for them to come to the phone!!!!!!!! I give up!!! She told me to calm down getting upset only raises my blood pressure hahaha like I don't KNOW that???????
OK FINALLY got to talk to my MOM!!!!!!!!!!!! She is still kind of groggy and in pain argued with me about going to a rehab!!!! I told her to do it for me please!!! She said she can do it at home!!! I said and Bill won't be there to help you either!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She said don't start.....I took a deep breath and said mom...you like that place when aunt Lillian was there...she said yes...so PLEASE GO THERE FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She said she would THINK about it!!! OK I am making head way!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked her if she knew when they would be moving her out...she said her BP was LOW...I asked HOW LOW??????? She said oh something like 80 over 80 maybe something like that??? OMG!!!!! So I need to call the nurse again????? Nope called my sister...she said that is what is WAS when she came out of surgery...she is stable now...BP is good. OK...SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO still going to go home. Did NOT tell my sister I was coming either. She told me to CALM down. Yeah OK. She even said both brothers were asses. HAHAHAA.

Your mom will have no choice but to go to rehab.....where ever they have space. Sometimes it isn't even in the same town. They will not release her to her home...no way. She will have PT and OT and other things every day including weekends. She will not even be allowed a assisted living space until she can walk some. Medicare will only pay for so many days of rehab...then it is to a nursing home. I know because my BFF Pam worked in PT for years and I also broke my hip and went through all that. I was younger and in good health. I was walking and jogging 3 to 4 miles 7 days a week. My body was strong. I came through it much quicker because of that.
Glad you are going to see your mom!!!
Love and Hugs.....connie d
Judy,
I would encourage you to do a few things.
First, call and ask to speak to the case manager/discharge planner assigned to your mother's care. This is the person who will be working to get your mom placed in rehab. This person may be able to pull strings to get your mom placed where you recommend.
Second, i would ask for the name of the neurologist so you can call and get the info directly from him about the MRI. You could leave a message asking him to call you directly. That is probably the only way you will get the straight scope.
Third, when you speak to the case manager/discharge planner ask her about your mom's medicare benefits and if they think she will need to apply for Medicaid. If so, should that process be started now?
Fouth, get the namevof the ombusman for the hospital. They maybe helpful if you need assistance with your mom and brothers.
Fifth, when you mom goes to rehab, ask them to include you in her care conferences. They normally occur weekly and they can conference call you in or you can have the rehab facility case manager/discharge planner call you after the conference. Explain the phone issue and they will probably be willing to call you after hours. This is also the person who can help with the Medicaid application if need be.
I am so sorry you are going thru all this. I hope this information is helpful. My hunch is, this is going to be a long road. If you have any questions you think i could help with, just ask. (Remember, my background is in managed care and claims adminstration. )
You are in my prayers.
Blessings
Francine
She sounds like my mom ... can't make her do anything. She doesn't understand anything anymore, but still has her opinions on everything. Won't get out of her recliner; says she can't walk because of her arm. She's as stubborn as they come. I think your mom belongs in rehab; my mom went to one when she broke her pelvis and now she has the 24/7 caregivers.
Eileen she is heavily medicated yet I believe...IF I were there I am sure she wouldn't be like that...damit if the Rural Development weren't coming now I would take off in a heart beat!!!!!! I am so full up with things to get done here **** **** ****!!!!!!!!!! Can't have Rick do it as its MY work!!!!!! He has NO clue how to do it....SOOOOOOOOO I am stuck between a rock and a hard place!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Thanks again!!!
