Happy Monday...what's up with you today?
Hi Connie and my OFF family:
It's been a hectic couple of days. Mom's party yesterday was wonderful. I wish I could get my photos off my camera and post them, but I will have to wait until I get home. I am having problems with the USB port on my laptop; it will not work with any cord I have (including the one that came with the camera). So I will have to go to a store and get them put on a CD or something. Some of Mom's former neighbors came by (the Kleins, Mrs. Docimo, who lived near us and were in my mom's ladies club ... well, Mrs. Klein at least ... Mrs. Asta, who still lives across the alley) ... my God, these ladies and gentleman are in their 90s! Mrs. Asta is 92! She is much more frail than I remember her, but she still goes shopping with her son (unlike my mom). And a lot of the Delort cousins ... my mom's side of the family. Oh, it was so great to see these people. Got to see my 14-year-old soon to be high school freshman grandnephew Ben ... now 6-feet tall. He's taller than his dad and still growing. What a good looking young man. Mom enjoyed herself too. It was a pleasant day, too cool to sit too long outside, but nice enough to open the doors and windows. We had snacks and munchies and cake. A lot of people left before the cake was served, but there was enough cake to go around and two pieces left for mom today.
Now this morning was another deal altogether. I was so scatterbrained. I blame gabapentin, one of my drugs for nerve pain. I am taking 1200 mg a day and it has helped my pain issues. But it has this effect on memory and, as my friend Mary Kay put it, "it makes you stupid." I couldn't find my GPS this morning. I finally gave up and left, figuring Gary would give me directions (he is extremely organized; I am less so, but usually not so scatterbrained). So I got to Mom's house later than I expected and I get inside and go to look for my glasses to write down directions and they're not in my purse. Now I'm really upset ... I mean, I can see with my sunglasses but not in the dark! Plus, I lost my temporary crown ... it actually stayed on longer this time. And I have an ingrown fingernail on my right pinkie that started to bleed, and a nail on my right hand that cracked and started to bleed while I was driving.
Fun day, huh? So I figured I might have left the glasses at the hotel. So I called them back and asked them to look ... nope, they didn't have them. So I checked at the Starbucks that I stopped at, figuring maybe they dropped out of my purse ... nope, not there. Don't know where I dropped them. I'll have to use my old set when I get home, see if I can get another pair or wait until next year.
Otherwise, the hotel is wonderful ... it's decorated in kind of 60s modern. But very nice ... plush robes in the bathroom. We each have our own king suite, with refrigerator and microwave for the first three days, then we will have to share one for Thursday night into Friday and I will have to sleep on the sofa sleeper (which is more like a futon, or I think a klik-klak ... we haven't figure that out yet).
Gary is off on a Lincoln ghost walk tonight. It's 10 blocks, which I know I can't do. My right foot is really bothering and I think I will have to find a time to get that fixed soon. (Metarsal inductus causing my little toe to grow inward and cause a bunionette ... and it really hurts!) Add that along with the knees, the back and the neck and the shaking hands. So much fun.
But we had a good meal at this Mexican restaurant tonight. I have leftovers, of course. And hopefully tomorrow it won't rain. (It usually rains on our vacations.)
Have a good night
Hello Eileen.....WOW what a day you are having!! I am praying tomorrow is a better day and all the lost is found!!
I was on that much Gabapentin...made me feel like I was losing my mind!! So glad the new med is working.....minus the side effects!! I lost 9 pounds when I went off it too!!!!
Sounds like your mom must have had a great birthday party....good for her!!! Yes we all age and then turn frail. I am not looking forward to that age!!
That ghost walk sounds like it would have been fun. Too bad you are in so much pain and couldn't go. Your foot sounds so sore!!!
Your meal must have been good tonight as you brought it back to the hotel. I want to go out for some good Mexican food soon!!
Hoping you have great weather tomorrow and a really great day!
Love and hugs to you....connie d
Well I just stopped in to see how you all are doing before the day is done. I started the day early with a doc appointment for Bill. Than lunch and a stop to get blood work for him.
The draw place called the doc trying to get codes to cover it. Darn Medicare is such a pain. He worked more than 50 years paying into it, he actually started working before there was SS. They couldn't find code to do it as a screening. I have now been told by three different sources they won't pay for screening you have to have a diagnosis for the problem before they can look for it So we had to sign we will pay the $200 if they don't.
Than I went to get a prescription filled for a wrist brace for his carpal tunnel. The place isn't there any more. I was so than I gave up and just went home without all my errands done.
Had to go back into town tonight with Bill to help him get stuff to fix the tractor to try to get all ready to start cutting have when the weather allows.
