Life is a Beach Wednesday
Good morning sistas!
Popped in to see what's going on and noticed that no one has started today's thread yet. We are moving hotels today, and frankly, can't wait to get to our new condo for the next 10 days. We'll have our own kitchen again, and we are ready for that! Eating out over and over again gets really old. As you all know, it's tough for us WLS patients to find restaurant foods that are both nutritious and good for us.
Ambergris Caye is a lovely island. San Pedro (the main city here) is not quite as lovely. It's very crowded and the streets are a real hazard! Taxis, golf carts, bicycles, and pedestrians all compete for a spot on the same street at the same time! It's nerve wracking.
We went fishing yesterday which was fun. We went waaay out from the island, about 8 or 9 miles, and got to see dolphins and viewed parts of the reef (underwater of course, but the water is so clear here!). However the boat ride, bouncing over the waves, did a real number on Butch's back, poor darling. Mine is a bit sore this morning, too.
We are in good health again. Let's hope we stay that way for the rest of the trip. Not sure what made us sick, but we've been remarkably lucky with this trip.
I still haven't gone swimming for real, except for my plunge into the Macal River. I really want to go snorkeling! But I don't want to get another infection. Deciding, deciding . . .
Well, time for me to shower and get our gear packed up. Looking forward to settling in to one place the for last 10 days. Hopefully the wifi will work well there and I can keep posting on FB and here.
Love you all!
Good Morning Vickie, and OFF Family,
I just got off the phone with my Christopher. I was discussing my tentative summer travel plans, and the possibility of seeing a Phillies game in Pittsburgh with him and Sean over Fourth of July weekend.
Just prior to his call, I was at church. Colleen and the girls had a breakfast to end their Bible study, and they gave me a gift card for a spa pedicure as a thank you for watching their kids for them.
It's supposed to reach 80 degrees later. I'm gonna take a bike ride, and then get back to work on organizing my bedroom, and spare room.
Hugs, Love, and Prayers,
Trish

Good morning Vickie....so wonderful to see you start the thread today!!
So sorry you and Butch weren't feeling well. I am glad you are both better now. The new condo sounds nice. I hope you can relax and really enjoy your time there.
Your fishing trip sounded so beautiful. You didn't mention if you got any fish or not. Sorry your backs are sore.
I myself am still not so sure about you snorkeling. How is the "hole" doing? I so don't want you to get another infection. Remember what that was like? Please be very careful!!!
As for me today....I had to go and fax some paperwork and then I stopped at the drug store. I was getting low on my Boost and it was on sale again. I drink one or two every day and don't want to run out.
I wish the sun would come back out. It was supposed to be sunny today and the next couple days with temps in the upper 70's. That is a heat wave for us!! I prefer 80's and 90's!! Now it looks like it might rain again. We just can't catch a break with this weather!!
I am not sure what I will do the rest of the day. I have my apartment clean and my laundry doesn't need to be done yet. Guess I will go out and work on the puzzle for a while. I like quiet peaceful days like this!!
I am seriously thinking about getting rid of my car. I hardly ever use it anymore. The insurance, car license tabs, and upkeep is expensive and I could use the extra income. Nic's car is going out on him. He needs a car for his jobs and school. He could sure use it. I will give it to him if I decide not to keep it. It is a black Pontiac Grand Prix, loaded and a sun roof and all. It is a 2007 but less then 70,000 miles on it. I will decide on this by the end of the month. I have been thinking a lot about it lately. There are buses here that take us shopping at many places. I have friends that would help me out too. Okay, enough of my babbling!
Wishing you all a great day! Prayers for our sweet OFF family.
Much love and lots of hugs to all....connie d
Hi Vickie and my OFF family:
Your trip has sounded like fun, Vickie. Hope you enjoy your condo. Connie, I was wondering how you would get around if you didn't have a car, but if they have buses, that would be a good choice. Trish, enjoy the pedicure.
I had a dentist appointment this morning and just got home from that not long ago. There's this one tooth that's been bothering me ... first I had a crown put on it, then the crown fell off and I had it put back on, then I had some problems and we found out the crown had a crack in it, so they gave me a new crown six months ago. Now, I'm getting so much food stuck in between that crown and the next tooth, I have floss vigorously to get it out. So what I found out today was the crown shifted ... dentist said it was very rare. Just my luck! Of course, insurance will pay for it. But still .... this has been going on for two years.
So after the dentist I stopped off at Walgreens to get a couple of things. Richard had sent me a note he needed eggs (after all the shopping we did!) so I bought his eggs and dropped those off before coming home. Nothing planned today. Maybe I'll dump the litter box out. I'm too tired. Didn't sleep well last night. We are supposed to get storms and I'm feeling that.
Well, have a good day.

Hello sistas! I am happily puttering around in the kitchen tonight. We are going to pan fry the fish (red snapper) that we caught yesterday, and I have potatoes baking in the oven. And we're going to try mixing up a batch of fry jack dough for in the morning. So I have pinto beans soaking right now. We'll try to make our favorite Belizean breakfast in the morning: fry jacks, scrambled eggs and refried beans.
Butch is still down in his back, so we didn't do much exploring this afternoon. We started a new audio book and took a nap. Then we got up and walked to the store. The store really isn't all that far, but carrying the groceries home got a little tiring. We had to buy oil and flour and milk and eggs--all heavy items. I'm sure we will make several trips to the market, too. Fresh produce is too good to pass up!
I absolutely love this condo! Oh, my, I never expected it to be this nice. It's gorgeous in here. We lucked out and got a 2 bedroom for the price of a 1 bedroom because we booked so many nights. Also, they had a special going: book 4 nights and get 1 night free. We booked 10 nights, so they gave us 2 free nights! We never get lucky like that. This is truly a charmed vacation.
We found a clinic along the way today that advertises it has a Registered Nurse. I may go in to see her. I have a puffy spot on one area of my incision that has me a bit worried. Ironically, it's not the gaping hole of my old belly button. That looks just fine. This looks more like an irritated stitch that wasn't removed or something. Damn this incision anyway. I want to go swimming! There is a drop dead gorgeous pool here, not to mention the entire damn Caribbean Sea, to go swimming in. I want to do more than get my feet wet.
Well, I'll quit whining now. I'm on the vacation trip of a lifetime. I need to count my blessings, right? Right. I so enjoyed catching up on all the posts. I'll be into a more regular routine now that we are settled in here and can post on OFF more often. I've missed you gals!
Nighty-night!
