TGIF from Placencia, Belize!
Good morning my beautiful OFF sistahood!
I'm sitting here on our private veranda, sipping a cuppa hot tea and listening to the waves roll in. In fact we heard them all night, even with the windows closed and the AC turned on. This is truly beach living.
We are in an old hotel called the SeaSpray Hotel and we are right on the beach. And when I say right on the beach, I mean it. Maybe 50 yards to the water. It's quite different from any place I've ever stayed before. But it evokes a lot of childhood memories, since I grew up on the Texas coast. This old hotel reminds me a lot of the old bay house my family had when I was growing up, only this time we have wifi and AC!
We are having a good time here in Belize. It's kinda hard for me to turn loose and truly relax. I find myself trying to plan our days, and that's not the purpose of this trip. We are here in Placencia for 4 nights. I woke up this morning wondering what the heck we're going to do for all that time. Then I scolded myself for trying to "organize" our time. What does it matter what we do? As long as we are happy, it doesn't matter if we don't do a damn thing. Right? Right.
Since we gave up our rental in Corozal we are now on the "wing it" plan. So I made some new reservations for us next week IN THE JUNGLE! I'm actually pretty excited about it. When we leave here, we are going to the Cayo District. We will be spending 2 nights at a small place in the farming district with a woman named Audrey. She has a small farm and has built 3 bungalows on her place which she rents out for $50US a night. Butch is very interested in seeing how farming works here in Belize.
But THEN, we will be spending 4 nights high in the mountains and the jungle on the Macaw River. It's a small lodge, but got 5 stars and many fabulous reviews on TripAdvisor.com. In order to accommodate us for the last minute booking, we will have to change rooms in the middle of our stay, but that's okay with us. They are both river view rooms, but one will be a suite. Ooo-la-la. Aren't we fancy?! LOL! We really enjoyed the Mayan Ruins we visited the other day, so we are looking forward to spending some more time in Mayan country and visiting more archaeological sites. And MAYBE tubing in the river!
Well, I need to write my daily blog and post on FB. I just wanted to say "Hi!" and I read all your posts daily, even if I don't post myself.
Love each and every one of you, my sistas!
Hi Vickie and my OFF family to come:
Vickie, I've loved reading your traveblog. There, I've invented a new word. You sound like you're having a fabulous time. Try to relax a little.
After a night at work of blowing my nose and hacking, my coworkers sent me home a little early. Then I sat in the car for a bit and tried to breathe ... wheezed for a while. Really am not feeling well. Coughed a lot more last night but slept better. But when I got up this morning I felt lightheaded and still don't feel well. I looked at the schedule and know they won't be able to fill my spot well (we are short one person because of vacation) but I just can't do it. I have a headache along with the coughing and runny nose. So I finally bit the bullet and called Joan, the new copy desk senior manager (re: the boss). She knew exactly why I was calling. I said I hated to call in but she said, "Well, you probably shouldn't have been in yesterday. We'll get by somehow." I'm usually not one to call in sick for a cold, but this one has knocked me flat.
Vickie, I would love seeing the Mayan ruins ... when I was on some cruises, I visited ruins on Cozumel (a site on the island itself) that was really interesting and then Tulum on the Yucutan peninsula. I love archaeology.
Well, have a good vacation ... sounds like an interesting trip. Have a good day, everyone. I'm off to sneeze and cough some more.
Good afternoon Vickie and everyone.....
Vickie...so nice to see you start the thread. I am so happy things are going so well and you are having a good time. I would love to be staying near the ocean. It is so calming and relaxing!
Eileen...you must be sick....you never call in sick...I really hope this goes away soon.
As for me....I went to Minneapolis with my granddaughter, Kyleigh. She had to go down and pick up something from her old apartment building. She did all the driving. I felt sick by the time we got back to town. My tummy is still flip floppy at times. I may have to cancel our Sunday get together...so sad.
I will check back in later. Prayers for our OFF family.
Much love and oodles of hugs to all....connie d
Vickie, Eileen, & Connie:
Hello! Vickie, I've really enjoyed the photos you've taken and shared on FB. Belize is beautiful! So happy you are enjoying yourselves.
Eileen and Connie: Sorry you are not feeling well. Sure hope you get to feeling better soon. And, Connie, I hope you can follow through on your Mother's Day plans.
My back is still really bothering me. I went to my regular doc and he ordered PT but the PT folks can't get me in until the 20th. So, I've been gimping along. Taking pain meds only when I really need to. I am hopeful that PT will help me feeling better.
We got up and went to the grocery store. Tomorrow we're headed to Costco in the valley. We're overdue to do that.
Other than that -- not much happening here.
Hope you all have a good, relaxing weekend.
Cindy P.
Hi Cindy....so sorry your back is causing you so much pain. Take the meds if you need them. It is hard to do anything when your back hurts!!
I am still holding out for Sunday...I will see how I feel tomorrow....I don't want anyone sick from me!
Have fun at Costco....I wish there was one closer to me. They are awesome!!!
Have a great weekend!
Love and many hugs...connie d
Ms Millie and I are stuck together like velcro. Cant go to my bathroom or shower without Millie. She misses her mum but has been turned into a Foodie by me: she has been on Friskies hard food all her life, but Auntie has given her Temptations treats, and Fancy Feast as day treat, and she recognizes the packaging for the treats when I shake it, and the can when I bring out the wet food she never had before....Wow, Îve created a Food Gourmet!
Jennifer, caretaker to Ms Millie, my houseguest cat.
Vickie I sure wish I could be their with you folks. I loved tubing in Belize. I wanted to go to the ruins but didn't want to do it on a cruise tour. Have a great RELAXING time.
I still am doing the RICE (relax, ice, compression and elevate.)for the hematoma in my thigh. For the most part it is soft which is good but I have one area next to the incision that is hard. I will call Monday to see if he wants to see it and do something more, ultrasound, open back up or just keep doing the RICE thing.
