Early early morning Thursday
Good morning sistas!
OMLord, this middle of the night crap has to stop. Seems I wake up around 4 a.m. every bloomin' morning! Sometimes I can drift back off to sleep, but mostly I'm just up.
Got all my laundry done yesterday and squeezed in a haircut as well. Today I need to make a run to the grocery store and make sure we have groceries for the next week. I also think I should be going by the hospital for another "type and match" on my blood, but they haven't called me yet. I will call them in a little while and check.
Now, y'all know how much I love my husband, but honestly, sometimes he would make a crazy person go insane. He wanted to have a fish fry last night, which was fine. (Better than fine, actually, since he fries all that mess outside and I don't have to clean it up!) Well, I wanted to use a beer batter last night and I should have been supervising him, because he just dumped all the battered pieces into the deep fryer and they clumped up, naturally. I don't know why he didn't drop them in one by one. And then it was time to do the french fries. Girls, it takes a special kind of person to EFF up french fries!!! LOL! I walked out on the back porch and he said he was "blanching" them. I said, "What?" He claims he saw it on the internet. Keep in mind these were not frozen fries, but real ones. He dropped them in the grease, let them cook about 30 seconds and then pulled them out to "rest" before putting them back in. Oooh, Lord, they were terrible. Soggy and greasy!
Anyway, it was an interesting supper, to say the least. I had steamed fresh broccoli and cauliflower with cheese sauce, and that was good. And I baked an angel food cake and prepare fresh strawberries, and that was good. Mike and I ate veggies and dessert; Benny had leftover mac'n'cheese, and Butch ate that EFF'ed up fish and french fries out of defiance, I think! LOL!
Never a dull moment around this house.
Yesterday was cool and wet, but it's supposed to warm up and be sunny and spring like weather for the next week or so. I hope that's our last cold front. I turn on the heater, then I turn on the AC, then I turn on the heater again. It's crazy weather this year, huh?
Well, that's all the news from down South Texas this morning. Really fascinating stuff, huh? But you know, I really enjoy reading all the day-to-day details of everyone else's life, so I hope y'all are enjoying mine. There's a special kind of intimacy that forms between friends on a forum like this. We share the big events, but also the mundane. It just makes me love each of you even more.
Y'all go make it a GREAT day!
Morning Vickie and all to follow,
Like you Vickie I've been up since 4:00, couldn't go back to sleep. Last night I made shrimp and veggie tempura. Boy was it good, Krissy couldn't stop eating which of course makes the cook happy. We had sweet potatoes, asparagus, zucchini, mushrooms, broccoli and shrimp. It did create quit the mess but well worth it. Not much going on today, house cleaning and laundry...oh lucky me!!
Big Hugs, Debbie
I am a lurker. I have not posted in a very long time.
Just wanted to say don't be too hard on Butch. He actually had the right idea. It is call double frying. I think he probably did not fry the first fry long enough. this method makes the fries crisp on the outside and soft but cooked on the inside and prevents over browning to get the inside done. Tell him to go to the food network and enter french fries as the food and he will get more information than he probably wants.
I also have sever sleep issues and it is no fun. In my case I have an advantage over you. I am retired, live with my hubby, and have no kids or grandkids in my area. As a result I can sleep as long as I need to. My sleep doctor says I have to have 8 hours and if that mean 4 am to noon then I sleep 4 am to noon...if I can...sometimes the sleep eludes me no mater what I do.
I live in Southeast Texas so I am experiencing yo yo weather also. We are having a late spring but my azaleas are starting to bloom. I don't think they will be a full this year but some color is better than none.
I will try to get back to regular posting in April. I won't have a computer this next week. getting repairs.
Have a great day.
Hi Linda! Good to see you post again. If memory serves, you live in Kingwood, right? I miss the azaleas in East Texas. There are no azaleas over here in the SA area. But we do have a bumper crop of bluebonnets right now. So pretty!
I have to admit, I'm looking forward to having no more kiddos in my house after this weekend, too. I would like to be able to "sleep on demand" again, too. There's a reason why people have kids in their 20's, not their 50's! I'se too old for this craziness again!
We'll be happy to have you back on OFF. Everyone is always welcome, no matter how long the absence has been.
Hi Vickie and my OFF family:
Overcast and supposed to rain here ... my body is feeling it. I slept well enough but it is my Monday so I'm dragging a bit. Got to get in the shower and have lunch.
Vickie, I can't handle fried foods at all so that doesn't sound appealing ... but neither does the broccoli. Hate it. Cauliflower and cheese sauce sounds good, though. I had salsa chicken last night and it was yummy. Have lots of it left.
I watched an interesting movie on Netflix last night "Into the White." Supposed to be based on a true story. It's about two fighter plane crews -- one German and one British -- that crashed in Norway in WWII. It was so good. If you get Netflix streaming or Amazon Prime (I think it's on there, too), check it out. It's an obscure film but well worth watching.
Not much else happening. Got to get into the shower. Have a good day.
Hi Eileen! Your salsa chicken does sound good. I took control of our dinner tonight and made a big pot of beans, broccoli/cauliflower/cheese/rice casserole, greens, and some leftover roast beef I had saved. It was a better meal than last night's soggy fries and fish!
I'll have to look for that movie. I think we have both of those channels. Or whatever you call them these days. I'll be watching movies and reading books for the next couple of weeks while I recover.
Well, i am a Great Auntie again. Liam Michael was born at 12:52 pm ET. 7 lbs 15 oz and 20 inches long and healthy. Mom started with mild contractions last night and she went in to the hospital and they were going to send her home but she was 100% effaced and 4 cm dialated. By morning she was in full labor. I am anxiously awaiting pictures.
Well, just got home from grocery and got every thing in the fridge and freezer. Now all i want to do is get this bra off. Lol
More later.

Anyhow...was going to tell the "kid" tomorrow he was done here but Rick wants to wait now just incase it snows over the weekend...soooooo now it will be Monday morning when he comes in and he will get his paycheck and also told we no longer need him. And the new guy will also be here...that will be good...I am going to tell him exactly everything he has done wrong also!! Being on his phone for one thing coming in late for another...we OPEN at 8 am not AFTER...how can we trust him to have the place opened up when we are gone??? Taking 1 & 1/2 hour for lunch ...not good!!!! Slams out the door when told to go back to apartment to clean more trash out of it... telling me make sure I buy thick trash bags not the thin ones like I am stupid... and also several other things that just were not right...like his friend coming around while he was working... just many many things and its time to say bye to this job. We appreciate what you did while here but its just not going to work. And one more thing...this is NOT a race track!! Drive SLOW when you leave here please!!!! Now...am I being to hard on him saying this or should I word it different???
OK time for me to go to bed and see if I can sleep...I am also not sleeping very much at night!!!
Thoughts and Prayers for ALL that need them!!!
