KEEPING POSITIVE EVEN WITH SLOW PROGRESS

I had RNY in Dec 2013. Have lost 39 lbs. Feeling great for most part. Had a couple of blue days as i hit a 4 week weight loss stall. Doing better after seeing doctor and she is good with my progress and nearly wrote a prescription for me to stop weighing Muslim daily. One once a week. Said i was going to drive myself crazy with the daily fluctuations.  I laughed and told her she was too late.

Been pretty limited in ability and time to exercise. Ability due to being physically limited and having to use a walker AND the weather.  It is really hard to get out, shovel and navigate with snow and ice. Have been able to get out on fair weather days to shop and run other errands and started walking at community center.

Well, guess I am rambling. I do look forward to hearing from people. I am a really very social person.

When you look at how much you have lost, that is ten pounds a month.  That is great!   Some people lose a lot of weight in the beginning and hit stalls and lose more; others lose a little and fluctuate and stall but remain consistent with weight loss; and others lose a lot of weight without stalling at all.   I can tell you that when I began, I lost a lot of weight in the beginning and did hit a stall around the same time as you.   I agree with your doctor; stop weighing yourself every day.   Create an exercise program that doesn't require you leaving the house.   Do stretches, a little light aerobics, and maybe some weights.  You can stretch sitting in a chair and aerobics you can do using your walker for balance.   You can make weights with water bottles or coke bottles.   Make sure you are not eating glider food (chips, potatoes, etc..things that don't stay in your pouch long), drink a lot of water, and move...move a lot.

Thanks for the great ideas to increase what i am doing from my chair. I have been doing the exercises they gave me during my physical therapy. I use the therabans but the idea for adding cans or bottles with liquids is one i had forgotten.

Also thanks for the encouragement.  Find OH and particularly the 50 and over has been wonderful and i don't feel so outside the norm in my progress or alone.

Hi Twinkles...Yes STOP weighing so much!! The scales will move more if you only weigh once a week or less!!! LOL I had so many stalls with my RNY I have no idea how I lost my weight!!! LOL But trust me it WILL COME OFF!!!! Just remember to drink your water atleast an hour before you eat and NOT while you eat!!! Wait an hour after you eat before you drink again!!! This way your protein stays with you longer and you feel full longer. Also it doesn't wash your protein out of your pouch...:-)

So don't get down your body went through MAJOR changes and is wondering what the heck happened!!! Weight will drop off before you know it and your WOW moments will be happening left and right!!! HANG ON ITS A WILD RIDE!!!

HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Good Morning, and Congratulations on your surgery and weight loss.  Your doctor is right.  Weigh once a week.  I don't own a scale, so I only weighed at my Primary doc's and the hospital where I had surgery.

There are walking DVD's by Leslie Sansome, which you could use indoors, even with your walker.  I have some, and they are great for indoor fitness.  Amazon carries them.

Welcome to OFF.  I'm glad you posted.

Hugs,

Trish

Thanks, i am going to look for that walking dvd. I am proud of myself today. Despite having to trek thru about 3 inches of snow to get to my car, i made it to the gym and used the nu step for 20 mins and recumbent bike for 10. I also did physical therapy stretches so i am pleased.

Thanks again for encouragement and ideas.

You go girl!!!  I'm planning on getting to the gym tomorrow.  I need to get the cardio in more consistently.

Keep up the good work.

Hugs,

Trish

Hello Twinkles!

So glad you posted.  We are here to help!

I lost 20 lbs, and then hit a 3 week stall.  You talk about BLUE.  I kept saying, "Tell me I didn't do all this just to lose 20 pounds?"  LOL!  Stalls will happen and they WILL eventually break.

As for weighing daily, I did it.  I couldn't help it.  Still do it.  I figure it's just who I am.

I think you are doing just fine and congrats on the 39 pounds!  A little bit is better than nada, right?  And more will come off.  Just keep following the program your surgeon recommends.  Walk and exercise as you can.  No one can walk in the ice and snow!  And drink your water everyday.

Looking forward to getting to know you better!

Thanks for responding. I really appreciate your sharing your story. I am having trouble stopping myself from getting on the scale everyday...i guess we are comrade spirits in that way.

I did get out despite the 3 inches of snow around my car. I just put on my get-a -grips and plowed thru. Did 20 min on the nu step and 10 on the recumbent bike. I am thrill. Plan to repeat tomorrow.

Thank goodness i like water.

I look forward getting to know you too.

Blessings
