Another Tuesday, another doctor visit
Mary, I wasn't offended, just sharing some information. I understand that it would appear that the system seems to have a large percentage of fraud, but the statistics show that is not the case. The problem is, the media shows examples of certain people, and uses them as the basis of a widespread abuse. Also, in 1996, Clinton signed into law a huge change in the cash assistance aspect of Welfare. There is a five year, lifetime limit. Also, recipients of cash assistance must be either working part time, or in certain kinds of training to be able to get a job.
Also, when it comes to abuses of the system, we have major corporations that abuse the system. If companies, like Walmart and McDonalds, were to pay their employees a living wage, then their employees would not need the benefits they currently qualify for. Of course, these companies are owned by people who keep getting richer and richer, thanks for the government assisting their employees to live. Just something to think about.
The reason I share these thoughts is, I earned a Masters of Social Work, in grad school, and entire semesters were spent on the realities of poverty in this country. I really had no complete understanding of the system till then.
Hugs and Love,
Trish
