Things About US

The tutors in my writing center are playing that game on Facebook where one will give a number to someone else and they tell things that people may or may not know about them.   Let's play.  Instead of getting a number, let's make the rule where you have to provide at least 15 things about yourself that can be related to weightless or not.

Here goes:

1.  I collect rocks and fossils

2.  I hate being in small spaces  (related to me being in an iron lung for over a year she I was only 4)  and flying almost kills me.

3.  I am the next to the youngest of ten kids.

4.  I have night terrors so bad that once I am able to get my husband's attention, he has to go through the house turning on lights and looking in closets.

5.  I am very, very soft hearted and sentimental and sometimes when I am reading the news, I cry and cry over the cruelties of mankind

6.  I still write letters to my mother who died when when I was a child.  I always end the letters with I miss you so much.

7.  My weakness is shoes and purses and I have way, way, way too many pairs of shoes and way too many purses

8.  I buy school supplies for myself every year even though I haven't been a real student in a very long time

9.  I am almost completely deaf and hate wearing my hearing aid

10. When my husband lost his eyesight, I cried often more because I became his eyes and I hated feeling so selfish about seeing for him

11.  When I was a teenage, my friend and I stood outside of a mall and pretended to be blind and we got fifty dollars in contributions

12.  I watch videos of people popping boils--I now gross

13.  I feed my kitties canned tuna so they will love me more than my husband.  I know, I am awful.

14.  I once bought five pairs of new shoes and told my husband a friend's mother had died and my friend gave me her mother's shoes.

15.  I love to cook and would love to own my own restaurant.   My friend and I are talking about retirement in terms of not really retiring but starting our own catering business----like ten or more years from now.    We make cakes for weddings, parties, and I specialize in bachelor cakes--a little naughty.  I know.  I'm a tramp

So, spill the secrets.

1. I had my eyebrows and my eyeliner tattooed on several years ago. Wish I had done that years ago!

2. I am a founding member of six different groups.

3. I love long brightly coloured silk scarves that match my skirts. I wear long flared-bottom skirts to my ankles to disguise my swollen legs but also because long swishy skirts make me feel feminine.

4. I am the oldest of three girls and was raised “to be a lady” (didn't work)

5. Had my very own first ART STUDIO when I was eight. Dad built it for me in the backyard.

6. I am fanatic about how I dress, especially colours that MUST match or compliment & be “classy/stylish” for a big woman. Most times even my underwear matches (hangs my head in shame).

7. I'm extremely sentimental but I cannot cry.

8. I was nominated several years back for the “ORDER OF ONTARIO” (for my service & volunteer work) by Shirley Carr (1st female President of the United Labour Congress).

9. Glitzy things...bling....make me smile...guess I'm a MAGPIE! I have far too many earrings and bracelets that sparkle. I tell JB that they were “secret sisters” gifts from sorority.

10. I used to design my own clothes but I didn't like sewing so I always had to find a seamstress who could create patterns for me. As a child, I would stay up most of the night and design ball gowns in watercolour. I wanted to go to Art College but my parents didn't believe in post-secondary schooling for girls.

11. As a child, I was bullied because I was always top of the class, chubby and had a foreign name. In grade nine and ten, I was so badly bullied that I changed high schools.

12. I've always been a visionary & love to create. I think that I am still subconsciously trying to prove that I am “good enough”.

13. I am still very naïve.

14. I am terrified of falling from high places, even when there's a barricade.

15. Procrastination is my middle name.
