Moving and Munching and the cleanse

Today, I am only doing Yoga, again.   My hip is really, really bothering me and I know the only way to help it is to rest it.   So, I am doing Yoga and that's that.

I am starting a cleanse so for me, I am only eating roughage today and tomorrow, then on Tuesday, I will transition to soups and broths and then around Thursday, I am going to drink clear juices and water.   When I come off the cleanse, I will work back up so by this time next week, I will be eating raw fruits and veges and then I will add some dry fruits and then go to eating some meat.

Last time I did the cleanse, I cannot tell you how much energy my body found.  I think it has more to do with getting the colon cleaned out and something about how meat breaks down and is stored as fat and glycogen or something similar which takes more energy to store an more energy to use.   If a person takes that process away, even if it is temporary, the oxygen levels in the blood rise a little and the fast energy becomes available from the carbs but there isn't enough to cause weight gain.   I'm sure I missing some valuable information but the truth is, it works.

So, what are you doing and what are you eating?

Connie,

I have a friend who got me into doing cleanses.   They work well and sort of get my pouch back on track.  The idea is to start slowly and work the cleanse into a month or longer time period.  The goal is to rid yourself of toxins that are created from all the bad stuff in our foods and to get rid of the protein and heavy meats that tend to hang out in our digestive system.  Also we tend to mess up the normal flora in our colon when we take antibiotics, eat foods with preservatives, and other horrible things.   So, a cleanse cleans you out and restores the natural flora in the colon.

You can go to healthfood stores and get various enzymes and so forth but I just do it the old fashion way.   I eat high fiber foods, cut out meat, then move to liquids.

So, today and for the next few days, I am going to eat root vegetables and fruit.   During this time, I eat them raw.  Yep, raw.  Today, I ate sliced turnips and carrots--raw.  I also only eat apples, pears, and grapefruits.   Some people do the juices--thy juice the raw fruit and vegetables, but I have found that I get much better results if I eat them raw.  I also eat prunes--just to get the colon going.

I will add celery, broccoli, and cauliflower over the next couple of days and by the end of the week, I will add citrus fruits like oranges.   After a couple of days, I will sautee the vegetables and add soups, vegetable soups, and broths.   I do this as long as I can and by the time I have spent at least two weeks doing the cleanse, I will gradually start adding broths and fish.   I am going to try to stay off of meat as long as possible.  I will post every day what I am eating and drinking.

Thank you Jeannie for all the information. I will give it a try once I am in my own place! It sounds like a good thing to do for our health.
