Hi Trish and my OFF family:
I haven't had time to post much lately. I get up too late and just am not in the mood. Trish, I have some of the same allergies as you. Because I have moved so many times, I pick up new allergies everywhere I move. When I was young, I had the allergy testing done and found I was allergic to all sorts of plants, weeds, trees, etc., and a bunch of foods (including asparagus ... not a surprise because I hate it). Anyway, for about nine months I got the shots and then I got my first far-away job in Montana (I was in Illinois at the time where I grew up). When I got to Montana, I tried taking allergy pills for awhile but sneezed forever. Then I got my first two cats. Well, I sneezed some more and wondered if I was allergic to Kittle and Cinnamon. So I went and had testing done. Nope, not allergic to cats, allergic to dogs though (grew up with a dog in the house, and it's unusual to be allergic to dogs). The doc in Montana suggested shots but said if they didn't help me in nine months in Illinois, they probably wouldn't help me there. Plus, since the smelter had closed down in Anaconda, they had found more people had developed allergies. Great, I already have these and now I'm developing new ones. Just give me some drugs and I'll manage.
My allergies got progressively worse until I got to Michigan and got on antidepressants. The last tests I had, they couldn't pick up any allergans. I have read if you're on antidepressants, your allergans can be masked. The doc in Michigan suggested I get off my antidepressants for a week. No, thanks. I already knew what I was allergic to ... I had developed asthma at this point. The one doc suggested I get rid of the cats or at least bathe them (have you tried bathing a cat? Not a good idea by yourself unless you have a death wish.)
Anyway, my friend in Louisiana also told me about the local honey thing, but I didn't try it. She has asthma and is all of about 90 pounds and 4-10. She says it works. But she can use the calories. I'm not going to tell you what to do or not to do. If it works for you, do it.
Not much else happening here. Waiting on the Colts game to get over. Quiet night at work. Weather has gotten cooler here, but no snow.
Have a nice night.
Darcy,
If you steadily eat sweets, even a little at a time, your small intestine (the part that is rerouted) will build up a resistance to the sugar. Normally, that part of our intestine doesn't get concentrated sweets, so when they reroute us, the sudden exposure to sweets causes increased mucus and vomiting. Many people push the envelop and get where they can even eat glazed donuts. Imagine that.
