I was told that I have to be weaned off caffeine 1 month before surgery.  So, I need to find some decaf and low acid coffee.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for replying!

Thanks, This will be my 3rd WLS.  I'm 52 years old, but I still feel like in my 40's.

The Lap Band or the Sleeve was not for me.   Had the LB in 2008 I hated it, lost 14 lbs and gained 17 lbs.  I was revised to the Sleeve in 2009 I lost some weight about 30 lbs and gained back most of the weight.  If you have a problem with eating white carbs like I do the the Sleeve will stretch and you will gain weight.  I also have a Hiatal Hernia with the Sleeve.  There was a study made this year and it showed more Sleevers gained their weight back and developed a sweet tooth, even if you never had one before.  That is exactly what happened to me, now I love cake, cookies, candy etc.....  I did not want to get the DS because, first of all BCBS Federal will not cover it if your BMI is lower than 50.  So, that is my story.  I am going for the Gastric Bypass RNY.

Thanks for replying.

Baby girl-

I think Folger's makes a decaf low acid coffee called Simply Smooth.  Not sure but I think so.  I use their regular decaf.  Good luck with your journey.

A word from the wise from China.  This message may or may not post.   I will be back to the states soon so if it doesn't, I will repost.

Just give up the coffee.   Take it from me; I tried to switch and when I had surgery, I had the worst damn headache for a week while I withdrew from caffein.

One of the things that I have seen happen with those, including myself, who have wls.   We tend to try to by pass our by pass.  What I mean is we cannot eat dense foods, so we resort to glidder foods like crackers and chips and potatoes.    Don't look for a way around something.  I cannot tell you how many people on this board who have pushed the envelop.   When I had wls, they said, sugar will make you sick.   It took me one time to get sick on sugar and that was it.   I have seen so many get sick but try again and again until now they can eat candy, cakes, doughnuts, and other crap.   If you start this process out by looking for away around coffee, your way of thinking isn't changing.  You are, instead, bypassing the rules of bypass sugery.   I tell you this because on this board, we are surrounded by those who bend the rules and have gained weight and they have a ton of excuses from not being able to exercise to who knows what.   If your doctor says wean off of caffeine, do it.   Don't find an alternate.   I tell you this out of experience.   I tried to bypass the cafeine thing and ended up with a huge ulcer that almost killed me.   Let me reiterate this: don't begin this journey looking for ways to break the rules.

My Nutritionist told me I could drink decaffeinated coffee.  So, I'm not looking for away around coffee.  I am not going to begin this journey looking for ways to break the rules.
