It's Thursday again!
Hello sistas!
Doesn't it seem like some weeks just run together? Didn't we just have Thursday? LOL!
A friend of mine is have gastric sleeve surgery today. I just found out about it yesterday. I gave her our information and urged her to join us here on OFF after her surgery. Her name is Candace. Prayers would be appreciated.
Everyone is sick at my house today. Chris has a horrible sore throat. Baby Reesey is congested and coughing, but has no fever. Benny is stopped up and runny nose. Ironically, I actually feel better today than I have in the past several days. No headache this morning and I'm not coughing up so much crud. I made Chris call the doctor about Baby Reese, but as we suspected, unless he is running a fever, there's not much they can do for him, medication-wise. Just humidifier and keep suctioning his little nose before he feeds each time.
Last night I stripped him to his diaper, rubbed his little chest with Mentholatum, and sat in a steamy bathroom with him for an hour. That seemed to help. We are going to buy a humidifier this afternoon at Walgreens. Poor lil guy!
Well, as I always say, a new day dawns and new hope arises each morn. If I'm not exactly HAPPY about the change in Butch's schedule, at least I am accepting of it this morning. He wrote me that he told his bosses that he didn't want overtime pay for these extra weeks. Instead he wants to do a straight day-for-day exchange for them during his November hitch. This means that if he works 2 extra weeks THIS time, he can come home 2 weeks early NEXT time. If it works out as expected, he'll leave on Nov 10th, but he'll be able to come home on Nov 30th, and that will be the end of his work days! He'll still be on the payroll until Jan 7, 2014, so that will get us through the end of the year on the insurance.
It also means that I can have my surgery the first week in December, and he can still have his surgery on Dec 17th. Lots of cliches are running through my head this morning: there's a silver lining behind every cloud, it's an ill wind that blows no good, things usually work out for the best, "all things work for good for those who love the Lord," etc. Whatever you believe, I believe God had a hand in this very unusual set of cir****tances. There are no accidents in God's master plan.
Also, I called my mother yesterday and invited her to come spend next week with us. She hasn't met Baby Reese yet, and since Butch isn't coming home, this will be a good time for her to visit. Chris will still be on maternity leave, so Mom and I will be able to visit several of the retirement communities around here and maybe she will choose one that she likes. I know she'll need to get on a waiting list for next year.
Plus it will make the time go by faster for me. And I need to spend some time with my mom. Haven't seen her since June. That's too long to go without a visit.
Well, I'd better close. This house isn't going to clean itself, and frankly, I didn't get much done yesterday. But if my MAMA is coming to visit, I'd better get my tail in gear. She likes a CLEAN house!
Special prayers for our Jennifer today, who is coming to terms with her diagnosis of cancer. Thinking about Nan and Nancy and so many of our sistas who are fighting cancer right now. Damnable disease. Also prayers for Jo that she will continue to have the stamina to care for the terrorists tots! Hoping Connie, Judy and Eileen have a pain-free day. Praying for Debbie A's friend and Cindy's hubby/MIL (? can't remember which relatives, sorry Cindy!) Strength to Cindi as she continues her Maine shut-down procedures and gets ready to travel to Texas for the winter. Hope Carla is able to return home soon. Her new grand baby sure is cute!
Love you all!
Morning from sunny California!
It's cool here this morning which I love.
Vickie so sorry Butch is going to be delayed, but I also believe God has a plan and we are better off to follow then fight it. Glad to hear your headache is going away.
My friend Robin is still in the hospital, she goes to a rehab hospital next week and when she gets home I'll go back for the week and help so your husband can work. Thank you all for the prayers!
Putting my sister's and mil's quilts together, I also have 2 quilts I'm working on plus trying to quilt 2 throws and a Christmas tree skirt.
May God Bless all of you,
Debbie
Good morning Vickie and everyone.......
Vickie.....I will keep Candace in my prayers. Hope all goes well for her with her surgery. So sorry Chris and the boys are sick. Hope they feel better soon. I am glad that you are feeling better. I hope you don't get sick again. I am so happy to hear that things might be working out better and Butch will be home for good real soon!! That is wonderful news!!! It will work out best for your surgeries too!!! Hope your mom finds a place to live that she really likes. It will be so good to have her near you.
Jennifer....I am so sorry about your news. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I am here for you anytime!!
Debbie....prayers for your friend. You sure are busy with quilts. How many have you made now?
As for me....tired but okay. Pam is here today and we have things to do. I will check back later.
Wishing you a great day!! Prayers for so many in ned.
Love and hugs to all......connie d
and thanks to Debbie today and others who will chime in, I am doing ok although had difficult time to get to sleep last night, slept solidly from 4 am through noon....just tired I guess after being hyper and a bit in shock.
Today will do some water exercises in the pool, laundry and other things to keep me busy...like thinning out clothes in bedroom closet and tomorrow making a casserole and grocery shop to take to a friend in worse shape than I as she has lost a lung to cancer and is on oxygen. Her husband has had some minor heart-attacks lately as well, so a visit with "catered lunch" by me and another friend will be good for them, and keep me grounded this Thanksgiving.
Life continues normally until I get my letter to see the oncologist surgeon at the hospital. Since I have maybe 6-10 weeks in which to get ready for surgery, this will help me focus on decluttering and tidying up at home which, Procrastinator that I am, have been putting off all summer.
Thanks for your continued prayers and good wishes, will keep you posted on my cancer journey, am optimistic it has been caught early.
Off to to the indoor condo pool, for some "commitment to movement" ....it's a gorgeous cloudless Fall day and will stay that way over our Thanksgiving Week-end here, ours is a month earlier than yours reflecting our shorter growing season and earlier winter.
Jennifer
PS Vickie: made the pumpkin cake recipe you gave me, and Eileen: have the ingredients to make your Salsa Chicken. Will freeze in portions for later when I wont feel like cooking...
Good Afternoon,
I spent the morning watching Frankie, because Lincoln's preschool class had a trip to an orchard, and Colleen chaperoned. What's funny is that Colleen, Trent and a couple from church grow a huge pumpkin patch, and then set up stands in two locations in town. Both families of kids help plant, and then pick the pumpkins. So, on this trip to the orchard, they got to go out to the pumpkin patch, and pick a pumpkin to take home. Then, they had cider and donuts.
Frankie and I had a great morning. We played, and we went outside where he rode around on an old Fisher Price wooden bike, with four wheels. It's so old, the paint's worn off.
I got home, and planted mums in a couple of planters outside, and continued to clean up my garden area. I bought some bulbs to plant for Spring. I hate October, because it's a month of losses, Dad and my baby brother both died in October, so I'm trying to do things to avoid my usual funk. Planting tulip bulbs gives me something to look forward to.
I have an appointment at my hematologist's this afternoon. We can't get my Coumadin level stable.

Hi Vickie and my OFF family:
No stories yet, so a quick note to say hi. I had PT this morning and got to catch up with one of my therapists from my knee PT last year because the woman who was supposed to do my PT was out. Then I stopped at the store for a few things, had lunch and zonked for an hour because I got up too early.
I wound up at work last night because the scheduler forgot to schedule someone to do sports ... think I told you guys this. Anyway, it will be nice to get the extra money next week, but now I'm extra tired today.
Vickie, those little kids are germ breeders ... especially the ones in day care and preschools etc. ... lots of germs there. It's good for them to be there, though, because they are exposed to the germs and can get used to them. (Hey, my siblings brought everything home and I caught it all from them ... chicken pox, measles, German measles ... but I brought home the mumps and gave it to my brother when he was entering puberty. Such a nice gift!).
Glad you'll have Butch home even earlier now. I'm sure you are, too.
Well, I guess I should check for something to do. Have a good day.
