Eating, Exercising, Excreting

I'll eat PB now and then, but I've never been a huge fan. Bell peppers are soooo yummy, but all they do is satisfy my need to crunch something, same as celery, but it's better than chip, for sure!

Gary has taken up long distance running and know people who swear by drinking pickle juice after long runs to replenish electrolytes. It's all the brine that brings your levels back up. I couldn't do it, but it works for millions of folks training/running marathons. I wonder if that craving for pickles is your body needing the electrolytes?

Here's another one.....I have a physician for a client who does a lot of holistic medicine practicing. Such a breath of fresh air! Anyway, I was telling her about the cramps I get in my feet and legs, and they're so bad I can't move. My PCP told me to take OTC potassium, which I've done, but it hasn't helped and one more pill is the last thing I need!

Sheila said that there is something about mustard that calms down the neuro receptors in muscles( she went into all the physiological reasons about the neurons and such, but lost me after the first two sentences) which causes the muscles to contract.
One teaspoon of regular old mustard swallowed during a cramp attack will almost immediately stop the cramp. Well, guess what? I tried it, and before I could walk back from the kitchen to the living room, the cramps in my feet were GONE! I'm talking 30 seconds. Unbelievable

It's so wonderful the things I find out sitting across someone at my nail table!!

I think peanut butter is one of those foods that one either likes or really likes and I really, really like it.  Being the next to the youngest of ten kids, I was raised on commodity peanut butter.

OMG, before they diagnosed the rickets, I would get leg cramps so bad that I wouldn't even be able to stand.   Sometimes it would just be my feet, other times my lower legs, and other times my inner thighs.   Mostly it would be only one leg but sometimes both legs.   When I go to bed or I am relaxing in the evening, I am always aware of how I position my legs and feet because I don't want to provoke the attack of the cramps. LOL.   I still get them but usually toward the end of the week before I take my weekly dose of D.

I will certainly try the pickle juice.  I love it.

Susan,

My husband has terrible leg cramps.  I'm going to tell him about the mustard!

Susan give a banana a day a try.  We are a household of outdoor in Florida in the hot sun sweating and my husband rides a bike as well. Leg cramps, the other bikers said 'Banana.'   He went to the doctor he said. 'Bananas, one in the morning, glass of milk.'  Very high in potassium and better than another pill.

Hey, Patty, thanks for the suggestion. I've talked to my doctor about the cramping and asked about bananas, he said I have to eat five bananas a day. To increase my potassium enough to make a difference....well, you know that wont happen...lol
I'm on OTC potassium supplements and that has seemed to help. One more pill doesn't bothere me, it's just one more added to the handful.
The cramps have become less frequently, but that mustard trick works immediately!

Connie,

Thank you so much for your kind words.  There are so many people who gain weight and think it is them but if it isn't caused by adaption, sometimes it is a fistula that developed between the pouch and stomach.  There is nothing as horrible as feeling as if we are failures.  Good luck taking off those couple extra pounds   I am certain you will succeed.

I drink a ton of water.   Not only does water provide a little necessary boost to our digestive hygiene but it also provides us with skin elasticity.  Sometimes I fill a picture with water and ice and throw a couple of cucumber slices in and the water takes on a whole new dimension.  I love seeing you on the board.
