New to this forum
Hi Everybody,
I have been on the RYN forum for months now. I did not know that there was just a forum for those of us that are over 50! I love this.....
My surgery is on August 26th. I am 58 years old and am wanting to loose 110-120 lbs. I started my liquid diet yesterday and failed miserably. I was getting a jump on it. I go to my pre-op appointment on Thursday and they have me start that next day, which is Friday. So, today is a new day and I will start again today. I look forward to hearing from all of you. Is there a forum for just the liquid diet stage?
Hi and welcome.
The secret to the liquid diet is staying full and satisfied. Pudding, Jello, popsicles, Fudgesicles, protein smoothies, with yogurt, milk, fruit and a protein powder mixed in a blender, Isopure makes a protein drink that has 40 mg. of protein, and tastes like KoolAid.
Good luck. You can do it. Come here as often as you need to. We are loving and supportive. Check into our daily thread. I just posted it. We share what's happening. Our ups and downs, our kids and grandkids.
Hugs,

Welcome "Purple"! What shall we call you? We're pretty close knit and informal here. And very supportive of all, whether you are brand new or several years post-op. There's a lot of love and friendship and wisdom to be had from us old dames.
IMHO, the pre-op liquid diet is the toughest part of the whole experience. I had a very hard time with it, too, so you are not alone. Just have to get through it, that's all. It did help me to suck/gnaw on a piece of jerky at times. Not so much to actually eat it, but just to give my mouth something to do that wasn't totally bad for me. I could make a piece of jerky last a long, long time! LOL!
Once you get past the first couple of days, it gets better. Your body will go into ketosis and the hunger pangs will stop kicking your butt. Just keep coming here and posting daily. We've all been through it and we will help you all we can.
Thanks so much Vicki. You may call me Nancy. I am reading several more books right now. Just got them in from Amazon. Started reading it just as soon as I opened it. One is The Emotional First Aid Kit A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery by Cynthia L. Alexander, PhyD. It is very, very good. I am sorry to say that I did not implement what I needed to be doing before my surgery. I had to do the 6 month supervised diet and was suppose to be doing several things to be better prepared for all of this. I did not! Now I'm really concerned.
Hello purple...AKA Nancy!!!
Sorry i didn't acknowledge you earlier. My computer was down and I was really sick for a couple days as well. I just had my phone to use to check in....you know how hard it is to type much from a phone...LOL

I think you will be just fine. Don't let that "head talk" keep you trapped in old ways. NOTHING tastes as good as thin feels!! Put some pictures of you at your highest weigh all over your kitchen....look at them daily and remember why you are going to have this surgery!! You will be so glad you had it...I promise!
