I am not sure about this anymore !!!
Hi Nancy,
You are experiencing a bit of pre-op panic, which is normal. We all wondered if we would be able/willing to comply with the new dietary restrictions after surgery. The unfortunate truth is that some don't, and those are the ones *****gain most or all of their weight. But the majority of us DO comply and lose the weight and managed to maintain it decently. It's the rare person who doesn't regain ANY, but most of us are so much better off than we were before.
I'm not kidding you when I tell you that the pre-op diet IS the hardest part. Truly, it's much easier post-op than pre-op. You're just going to have to reach down deep inside of yourself and find the determination to do it. What I told myself at the time was this: "I have had 54 years of eating {fill-in-the-blank with your trigger foods} and look what it got me. I want to do the next 54 years differently."
For me, my 2 main triggers were Cokes and Chocolate. Giving up Coke was the hardest thing I've ever done, but I have now been over 2 1/2 years without a single sip of soda. Chocolate is a harder thing eliminate from my diet, and I do occasionally indulge in a little. It will just depend on what your individual triggers are.
So, come here every day for encouragement and advice. You may receive some "tough love" from us, as Carla says, but you will also receive true words and as much support as we can give you. Begin anew each morning. Done is done. Don't beat yourself up over yesterday. You can't change the past, but you can change the next minute, hour, day.
You can do this, sweetie! Just keep trying!
THANK YOU LADIES SO MUCH!! During these next 11 days when I am struggling I am going to come back and read all these great replies. I do want this and YES, I can and will do it. My goodness, I stayed on Optifast in 2005 for 6 MONTHS....ALL LIQUID and never cheated one time. I was so determined. I lost 55 lbs but, of course, gained it back, plus some as soon as I started eating food again. Your kind and encouraging words all mean so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
