Maui Sister in the bullseye!

Aloha my OFF friends and family....well, I am guilty of NOT following faithfully the everyday haps in here, but that does NOT mean I don't care, love and appreciate all of you.

My morning always consists of checking OFF to see how you all are doing. I feel like I know so many of you.

Well, I need to let you know what is going on here in Hawaii right now. Maui is right in the bullseye of storm Flossie........I usually don't worry about these approaching storms, but this one is different. They are telling us that only ESSENTIAL personnel should report to work....fire, police, medical, etc. Kinda scary!

Today was one of my days at the hospital to screen newborn babies' hearing. I left home at 6:00 a.m. and it was quiet where I live on the beach. Two miles from the hospital, I experienced torrential rain, flooding and dark dark skies. I turned around and came home, fearing I might not be able to get home. I'm now in the survival mode.........get lots of water, have food supplies for 2 weeks, etc.

Hopefully this will be just a storm, and not a life-changing event. This storm is called "Flossie" and she is 100 miles from hitting the Big Island, and then Maui.

Sorry...I just really needed to share this moment of scariness.. Hopefully tomorrow I report that all is well.

OXOX

Hi Karen,

I'm praying you stay safe.  I was an hour from the Jersey Coast, when it wa**** by Hurricane Sandy last year.  I lost electricity for three full days, and we had terrible winds, rain and flooding as well.  I understand if we don't hear from you for a few days.

Love,

Trish

Thank you /Trish! I am such a positive person that I always think these storms will gently go by and not affect us. This one they keep saying is that Maui is in the bullseye!! I don't know what that means exactly but I'm trying to not panic. I have water, TP, and lots of canned food, plus fruit, noodles and bread. This is very scary......but I feel guilty because so many of you have had such huge weather issues this year. Every TV station is now talking about storm.....saying "stay home" and that is very scary.

Any good wishes are welcome

OXOXO

Yes, stay home, and make sure you have a flashlight and a tub full of water, if you have well water.  My ex has well water, and didn't fill his tub, and he couldn't wash up for days.  I didn't have that problem.  Plus, my stove was gas, so I was able to cook.

Hang in there.  Make sure your car has gas.  I had to go out to my car everyday and charge my phone, or I would have been totally cut off from the world.

Hugs,

Trish

Hi again...it's now a little after noon on Maui, and it is strangely still.......my neighbors and I are hunkered down wondering if this will hit like they say, or if it will move away without too much damage. My kitchen counter is full of containers filled with water, just in case. So far, so good.

The surf outside is getting gigantic! Crazy, goofy surfer dudes are out there surfing, and I think they are totally out of their minds.

I'm tucked in......made a HUGE pot of soup, and have lots of canned food and munchies. We usually don't get humidity here on Maui, but today my friend tells me it's 97percent. Yikes.......... strange but also an adventure.....

I'll be back tomorrow to give you the update! Thanks from the bottom of my heart for the support.

Aloha nui loa,

Hope you will be OK. Being in the Midwest again, all I worry about is tornadoes and blizzards (although this far south in Indiana, it's more ice storms). And the floods, of course, being near the Ohio River. Take care.

Eileen...thanks for the loving message. I do imagine how scary it must be for you in the kind of county that has tornadoes and blizzards! I guess you get used to preparing for these emergencies, but I am not used to doing that. However, I have done the food, canned good, batteries, candles, etc. and water!! Mother Nature has definitely given all of us a "warning" "challenge" this year.

Keep good care of yourself.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Karen-

Will send you positive vibes.  Charge up the cellphone and the computer in case of power failures.  Good that you turned around and went home.  I have friends in Hawaii on a Mission trip so I will send all of you positive vibes.
