My surgiversary-9 years!
Just realized this is my nine-year surgiversary. Nine years ago, I had my RNY surgery at Spectrum Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, done by Dr. James Foote, who saved my life. I had lost 180 pounds, but over the past four years I've regained 70 pounds. ... partly due to the failed knee replacements (I feel they've failed ... the right one at least) and the upheaval in my life, getting laid off, moving cross country twice, having to sell my condo, etc. I'm trying to get back on track now. I'm tracking calories on MyFitnessPal.com. Wish I could get more exercise in, but it still hurts to walk much. Swimming would be the best, but I can't afford it right now. So instead, I force myself to walk up and down the hall at work several times a night.
I started on this journey at 355 pounds, with compressed discs and having shrunk in size to 5 foot 3. After having gotten down to 167 (my low weight), I regained a whole inch in height. I think that's a wow moment there. I still have lots of pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia; that will never go away. But I no longer have high blood pressure, I don't have the fear that I will have diabetes like my family.
And most importantly, I gained a whole family of friends online (and some in person) from OFF. I'm so fortunate to know all of you. I don't think I would be this far along without you. So thank you for guiding me along on the journey.
