Saturday Morning in Michigan

Good Morning Sweet OFF Sisters,

I have a busy day today.  Trent is still sick with the kidney stones, so I'm taking supper over to Colleen's for this evening.  I have some shopping to do, and then some baking to do.  Not sure what to make for dessert, as I don't know if the strawberry farm has anymore berries available today.  If they have berries, I'll bake biscuits for shortcake.  If not, maybe some cookies, or I just might buy Trent's favorite ice cream.

I also have a bridal shower gift to purchase.  Fortunately, one of the stores the bride and groom are registered at is right next door to the grocery store that sells Trent's favorite ice cream.  It's a Pennsylvania brand, that has only been marketed here in Michigan since about three or four years ago, and is only sold at one chain of grocery stores here.  Turkey Hill, specifically Vanilla Bean, is his favorite.

Must scoot.

Love,

Trish

Hi Trish and my OFF family:

It's a hot one here again. I'd vote for the ice cream, but I can't have a lot of that anyway. I don't like strawberries. But I'm not there, so you need to make what's good for your family.

Work was an easy one last night ... a couple late baseball games, but still nothing like the past few nights with everything coming in late. So happy the NBA is over ... NHL tonight, and they've been going into overtime every game. Oh well ... I guess I'm used to the routine. I hate it working with this one guy ... when he is in charge, he's a bully. He thinks he knows everything and bullies everyone who doesn't know as much as him. Recently, it's been this one guy they're trying to change from a designer/graphic artist to a copy editor. The guy has no training in English or journalism, but he really tries. But  the one guy really enjoys bullying him, putting him down. I feel sorry for this guy.

Just got done watching "The Princess Bride." Haven't seen it in a long time. Funny movie. "My name is Ingo Montoyo ... Prepare to die."

Anyway, have a good day.

Eileen,

"The Princess Bride" is my all time favorite movie.  I used to have it on VHS, but have yet to get it on DVD.  I do have Netflix now, so I think I'll rent that tomorrow evening.

I hate bullies.  I was bullied for over six years, from fourth through part of tenth grade.  I had very thick, long, dark hair on my arms.  Boys called me every name imaginable, "Gorilla Girl, Ape Arms, all sorts of stuff.  My low self-esteem sank through those six years.  I got a slight reprieve in eighth grade, when I stood up to one boy by grabbing his hair, pulling his head back on my desk, and putting my fist in his face, telling him to never do it again.  The boys in my class let up, but not the boys in other classes.  When I got to high school, I talked to my guidance counselor, and she recommended I bleach my armhair with Jolen bleach.  What an answer to prayer.

My older son was bullied in fourth grade by one particular boy.  Normally, we taught our kids not to be physically aggressive, but they could defend themselves.  Well, this bully started his stuff when Chris was sitting in a corner of the library.  The bully was standing over him, so Chris reached out and punched him in his family jewels.  Kid never bothered Chris again.

My experience, and observations, is when someone who is being bullied stands up to the bully, the bully usually backs off.  As long as the victim takes it, the bully keeps it up.

Sorry to babble so long.  Just a thought if the opportunity to speak privately with the coworker being bullied.

Hugs,

Trish

The guy tried to do it to me ... early on, he yelled at me. I yelled back. He said, "You yelled at me!" I replied, "Well, you yelled at me first." Everyone in the newsroom at the time snickered and later said, "Good one, Eileen." I later found out he had threatened just about everyone. He has never tried that with me again.
