Wee hours of the morning........checking in. Happy 'Tuesday!
Yesterday was my "friday" and the last day I screened babies' hearing at the hospital for this week. I only had five babies, which is a small number. Usually I have at least 7 and Sunday I had 12!! Baby boom Maui style!! Yesterday there was this little cutie pie girl baby who I could NOT get to stop crying. Usually I have little tricks that can calm down the most fussy baby, but this little girl was only happy when she had mama's nipple in her mouth!! This was the most difficult baby I had in the five and a half years I have been doing this! But, finally I got her to pass the test with mama stroking her cheek while I put the soft little probe in her ear. I feel sorry for that mama.....this little one is going to keep her busy!! And forget about sleep!! Ha
Well, I finally have made arrangements to go to Santa Cruz to see my family in May! It looked like I wasn't going to be going because I have a kitty that is being a bad little "pooper." He has not been using the litter box, but doing his "business" wherever he felt like it!! Sometimes under the bed!! I could NOT ask family, friends to come and take care of him when he's doing this smelly and messy stuff .. Well, my son found a wonderful woman here on Maui that kitty sits and she says she had a kitty who lived to be 19 and did the same thing pooping outside the box, and she had no problem coming and taking care of Nicki!! Yeah!! She's not cheap, but my son is going to pay her fee so that I can come to Calif. for 12 days in May.....yeah!!
I don't know about all of you, but lately life sure is putting a strain on my money situation. I seems like I get caught up and they wham......unexpected expenses like new tires, dental costs, computer problems, etc . etc. are making me crazy with expenses that I can't afford.!! I try to stay on top of things, but living on Maui is way, way expensive! Gasoline is still almost $5.00 a gallon, and groceries are ridiculously expensive. Can you say $3.25 for a can of Campbells's soup????
It's 1:00 a.m. right now, and very very warm!! I am wearing almost nothing, and it's humid and sticky. Our winter has been dry dry dry......very little rain, and the hills are brown and very ready to burn!! One cigarette thrown from a car and the hillsides will be ablaze and we are in trouble. Happens almost every year. Yesterday, I worked at the hospital and while chatting with a colleage we saw a HUGE whale breach offshore and make big white spla**** was incredible!! I wish he had breached again, but we just saw the one crash near a big cruise ship docked at the harbor. Those people sure got a great view of this magnificence!!
OK...I'm going back to bed...........I only use a sheet to cover me.....anything else is too warm. Hope you all have a great Tuesday. I am going to work on decluttering......sigh. Hate doing that, but it has to be done.

Good Morning Karen and OFF Family,
Aloha!!! It is always a joy to hear about your work with the babies, as well as the beautiful scenery around you, Karen. Watching the whale must have been breathtaking.
I had a great doctor's visit yesterday, with my new doctor. He was so nice. I'm so grateful. The ultrasound came back showing my gall bladder as normal. So, he is referring me to a gastro doctor. I've had ulcers before, including about seven months post-op, so this doesn't surprise me in the least. He also is ordering bloodwork, and other tests. Plus, being internal medicine, he did my gyn exam, so I don't need a gyn doctor.
Today, I'm going over to Colleen's to watch Lincoln while she goes to Bible study. Church couldn't find a babysitter, so the kids usually run wild. I'm not a member yet, so I can't volunteer for the job yet. Frankie can go with Colleen because she still nurses him, and he sometimes takes a nap for her. I have new Spiderman puzzle for Lincoln and me to work on this morning, so we'll stay busy. It's a big one for him, but he's really good with puzzles, as long as I help him. I also have a couple of books I can take with me.
Better get hopping.
Hugs,
Trish

Glad you found a doc that you like. That makes such a difference doesn't it. Just knowing that you will now get to the bottom of your physical problems must be a relief.
You sound busy busy, and I hope it is happily.
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen
Aloha Karen and Trish and all my OFF sistas!
Karen, I just love the glimpses into your life in the islands. I doubt seeing whales would ever get old! How fabulous.
Trish, hope you don't have an ulcer, sweetie! Glad it wasn't gallstones. Enjoy your morning with Lincoln!
We are all moving pretty slowly around here this morning. PT was rough on Butch yesterday, and he just doesn't feel like doing much. I'm still draggin' my tail around, too. Frankly I could go back to bed and sleep another couple of hours. And Benny seems to be content to just sit in Papaw's lap and watch 'saurs (dinosaurs), so I guess we're not doing anything this morning.
I've got some bookkeeping to do, and we really need to gather up our tax stuff today. Maybe later this afternoon we might all get some energy.
Hoping everyone has a very pleasant day! Love you all!
I'm going to have a quiet day today myself. I always have a "to do" list and many times I DON'T!! But I'll give it a try today.
Have a lovely day.
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen
LOL, Karen! I have NOT been the energizer bunny today! Instead I have been the proverbial bump on a log. I have done very little except sleep and read today. I did clean up the kitchen and I did do a runner of towels, but that's it. We were discussing going into town to Lowe's this afternoon in a vague sort of way , but seeing as how it's almost 5 p.m., I really kinda doubt that's going to happen either. Shrugs.
I hope your quiet day has gone well for you!
It is finally late afternoon here and I am happily into "couch potato" mode.
My neighbors just got home from Costco and I do not envy their having to put everything away. I'm going out on the lanai and just breathe in the sweet smelling air and be thankful.
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen
Good Afternoon OFF Family,
Karen, love to hear stories of your babies. Must be such rewarding work. Yeah for you getting to visit your family! We too are in bad shape here in Texas with no rain. Maybe a little shower tomorrow, but not enough to do much good.
Vickie, does Butch get his PT in New Braunfels? Hopefully you don't have to bring him into San Antonio every time. My daughter is hoping my PT will be on the northeast side of town which will make it easier for her to get me there.
Pre-admission on Friday then knee replacement surgery on Monday. Only issue I have with surgery is that my doctor doesn't start doing surgery until noon. My stomach is going to be growling!!!
Earns to run today.Hugs and prayers to all, Sandra
I hope your surgery goes smoothly and that you get back to feeling wonderful soon. Good luck!
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen
