Happy Easter
Have a great rest of EAster day. It's only noon on Maui so I have time for a quickie nap before going to friends for Easter dinner.
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen
Karen, I forget sometimes that everyone on the board will not know everything. Forgive me. I have 2 daughters: Carrie is 30 and she is working on her Ph.D. in Chemistry at Baylor University. She is unmarried. Christie is 28 and she has a 2 year old son, Benny. Chris and Benny are living with us right now. My husband's name is Butch and he is finally getting ready to retire. He is 68 and has worked offshore/overseas almost our entire married life of 31 years. I am 55 and "retired" I guess. I quit work at age 51 and I haven't gone back! I worked for 15 years at Stephen F. Austin State University as an academic advisor, specializing in at-risk 1st year students (student who were either 1st generation college students, or students *****quired 1-3 remedial courses in math, reading and writing due to low SAT test scores). I also taught college level English for a few semesters, and I was also a public school teacher (grades 7-12) in English and Language Arts.
I hope this clarifies things for you. Sometimes I think it would be helpful if we each did a little "bio" of ourselves for the others to read. Over the past two years, I have slowly pieced together the names of spouses and kids and grandkids from most of our OFF sistas. But sometimes I still get confused as to who is who! LOL!
Love you!
Trish I know birthdays have different meanings for different people. For some time now we only do big birthdays for the kids.....we adults just send cards or e-cards. I've never been big on birthdays, but I know some are. My kids NEVER remember mine, and at first it annoyed, saddened me. But I just have had to get over it. I always send my two boys cards, and wish us both Happy Birthdays and tell them "Remember I was there!!"
This morning I worked at the hospital screening the Easter Eve newborn babies' hearing. I had a set of twin girls who were only 4 and 5 lbs!! So absolutely darling! For being so tiny, they passed easily where sometimes I have a really hard time getting a 10 pounder to pass...Ha. Tomorrow I will be sceening the Easter babies....yeah!!
Judy, sorry you are having such a drama with your bros and sisters about your mom. She is lucky to have all of you worrying about her though. My neighbor's father came home very ill and had daily caretakers come in to help bathe, medicate and dress him. His care was covered by Medicare as I recall. Hope you find the answer that works for all of you.
Karen....so lovely to hear about your progress toward WLS.......it will change your life forever. Today I weigh less than half of what I weighed at my heaviest (330) and I feel comfortable in my body. People say I'm skinny, and I just smile because I would rather be skinny that unable to move, do stairs, fit in airplane seats, etc. I can eat anything and everything I want to, but I still try and maintain a healthy diet. This morning I weighed 145 (I'm 5'11" tall). I also had tummy surgery a couple years after WLS and now have a flat tummy instead of the flap that needed to be lifted in the shower to clean under.
Good luck to you on every step of your journey.
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen
They have set my goal at 140 and I'm 5'3", I weigh 277 right now so I am also looking at losing about half my weight. I am getting excited and can't wait to get started on our journey together. I know it will be hard at first but my husband and I are determined to do this and finally get the diabetes under control!
Thanks for the encouraging words!

Good evening Trish and everyone....
I am so sorry I haven't been able to connect with the internet the last few days. I was able to for a bit last night but not for long. I couldn't connect today. I just got back home about an hour ago.
Happy Easter everyone...I sure have missed all of you!! I am at a loss about all that has happened with Judy and her mom's situation. I will have to go back and read past posts. The last I knew Judy was at home waiting to find out if she needed to go to her mom. I have been keeping her and many of you in my prayers.
I did have a great time this last week and weekend!! Spending time with my grandchildren was wonderful!!
I will be back again in the morning!! Prayers for many in need.
Love and hugs to all.....connie d
