Happy Easter

Good Morning Family,

I tried to post yesterday, had written a rather wordy post too, but something happened and it didn't go through when I hit "Submit."  Since I'm having problems with my keyboard, I gave up.  I meant to get back later yesterday, but was hardly on the computer.

Yesterday, my church held a huge Easter egg hunt in the park down the street.  My grandchildren made out like bandits.  In addition to candy, they each won a small toy.  They had a lot of fun,

I'm getting ready for church and then attending worship.  Sunday School is canceled.  My daughter is hosting a small family dinner.  It'll be her family, Trent's parents and me.  Given that Trent is one of six kids, who are married, with 11 children between them, today will be a small gathering.  I'm taking a vegetable tray, au gratin potatoes and baked sweet potatoes.  Colleen is making a ham, and a green bean dish, not the traditional casserole.  She baked a cake, to make look like a bunny, but had a problem with her frosting last night, so I'm not sure whether she was able to fix it, or not.

Colleen told me something strange about her mother-in-law.  It seems she often forgets Trent's birthday, or sends his card a month late.  She doesn't do anything special for that day where he's concerned.  Yet, around her sons' wedding anniversary, she takes her daughters-in-law out for a special dinner, just the two of them.  Well, Colleen and Trent's anniversary is December 28th.  This past anniversary, she asked Colleen when she'd like to go out.  Colleen told her she would go out with her, after she took Trent out for his birthday.  Now, I bought Trent's birthday present three weeks ago, as well as the card.  I made sure to give it to him yesterday, his birthday.  I never forget my kids' birthdays.  I always call them on their special day, even when my daughter was in Tunisia 20 years ago.  If I don't get them on the phone, I leave a message.  I've called my sons from my classroom, and had my students sing "Happy Birthday" to them on their voicemail.  Back in October, Mom and I were driving here, and spent the night in Pittsburgh, near Sean.  It happened to be his birthday.  So, I surprised him by bringing a cake I baked, frosted and all.

Sorry to rant.  I have trouble understanding people sometimes.  My Mom has had times when she didn't acknowledge my birthday, but she and I haven't gotten along since the day I was born.  Trent is his Mom's handyman.  She owns a bunch of rental properties, which he helps her maintain.  But then, she charges my daughter to babysit the kids, all the time.  I refuse Colleen's offer of money.  One morning, Colleen needed me to watch the boys for a little while at the last minute.  She offered to buy me a diet Coke.  When we got to 7-11, I told her that I could pay for my own Big Gulp.  She laughed, and told me I'm the cheapest babysitter she's had.

Must scoot.

Trish

Happy Easter Trish and OFF family yet to come!

Trish that woman sounds like Ricks mom!!! She goes all out for her other son and forgets Rick. But when she neded things done who did she call? Rick! So glad we are no longer near her!!

Well mom is now settled in her rehab. Didn't get to talk to her yet. Feel bad about it but hopefully today I can talk to her!! My brother took her cell phone to her so she has a phone in her room. Tried calling her yesterday but she didn't answer it. Probably to tired from the move. If she doesn' answer it today I am calling the nursing home where she is at for her rehab!!

Still not sleeping good. It was 3 am before I drifted off and I was waking up off and on rest of the night. I will ask the dr tuesday when I go for my checkup if he can help me out or not. Probably not as this check up is for my pap test. My medicaid runs out today. I am not having anything with caffeine in it so that is not the trouble either. I am just plain worn out!!!

Making a beef roast for our dinner today. Rescheduled the Easter dinner for April 10th. That will give everyone time to prepare for it including me. I have rents to attend to this week and its so busy. Friday we will still have the bingo here. Need to get a few things for that yet. No big deal.

Well better get in the shower and take Bandit out for potty walk. Looks like rain this morning here. 46* right now.

Thoughts and Prayers for ALL that need them!!

Happy Easter Everyone!

We had an AMAZING service this morning, yes we made the 8:30 am service!!!

Trish, I can empathize with you totally.  My mother-in-law doesn't forget to send a card, but that is it. When my husband and I first got married, every birthday in the family (hubby has a brother and sister, I'm an only child) my mom, everyone, the whole family got together and went out to dinner together to celebrate.  My birthday happens to fall on Christmas Eve so my birthday always got looked over by the family.  Harvey would take me out to lunch/dinner and a movie and the local jewelers to pick out a Pandora bead for the occasion.  Well since my mother passed, no family birthday dinners, just a card.  Not that I'm complaining just comparing. My mother-in-law lives about 40 miles away and comes to see us like twice a year.  If we see her we have to go to her house. There was no invitation to Easter dinner today so I am making dinner for us and a single neighbor this afternoon. We have just learned to live with the fact that we are not the norm because we don't have anything to contribute to the grandchild pool.  What do ya do?

Judy, so sorry your mom has to be in a rehab facility. I know about calling and worrying because the don't answer.  I have an aunt in a nursing home in Dallas and she is getting to the point that she can no longer hear on the phone so I can't call her. It's sad she is 95 and has always been one to work with her hands, now she can't see to do anything, hearing is all but gone and confined to a wheelchair, but if you ask her how she is doing , she will tell you, "I'm doing good!", with a smile on her face.  Chin up, I'm sure it will get better. Prayers for you and your Mom.

I am thoughtful today and thinking abou the surgery. I so don't want to lose my hair, but I keep telling myself that it is just hair, it will grow back.  It went from thick to thinning overnight anyway but the thought of losing more really scares me.  I want to get it colored but I read somewhere that you don't want to do that, to keep your hair as healthy as possible before and right after surgery so I am taking Biotin and keeping my fingers crossed.  Enough about that!

I hope you all have a great day and a better tomorrow.

Hugs, Karen

Hi Karen, which surgery are you going to have? I had the RNY and really didn't lose any of my hair. I have always had thin hair so I didn't notice if I lost any more or not. Some of the women had theirs cut short so they didn't pull it out after surgery when they combed it and also using a wide toothed comb also helps instead of using a brush. Might think about doing that if it starts to come out on you. Makes it less noticable I guess.

Talked to my mom a few minutes ago. She HATES the rehab!!! Said it takes them forever to come help her to go potty...never came and asked her for breakfast and its already lunch time!!! WTH??????? Then my older brother shows up while we were talking and he told her that they can't keep her there if she doesn't want to stay!!!!!!!!!! OMG WTF??????? How can he tell her she can leave like that?????????? He KNOWS she NEEDS to stay and have the therapy!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG if I were there and he said that I would kick his ass!!!!!! I am in tears right now over him saying that to her!!!!!!!!! I am lost as what to do right now!!! Sorry for going off like that...

Thanks for the Prayers!!!! Sure do need them!!!

My husband and I are both having RNY hopefully late July Early August.  I think I have a wide tooth comb here somewhere I'll have to dig it out and try it.

Whenmy Mom was in rehab she said it would take them 30 minutes to come help her to the bathroom so she just started going when she had to and let them clean it up a few times.  They amazingly started coming when she called!  Never had tro deal wih siblings so I can't really speak to that but I can imagine it is very frustrating when you are not there to know what is going on and depending on someone who probably doesn't know what is going on.  You just rant like that anytime you need to, I will be happy to listen.  Sometimes a good rant and cry is just what the Dr. ordered to make you feel better.  Take care and keep me posted!

OK...I myself love he RNY best!!! Never had ANY trouble with it at all...knock on wood!!! LOL  As for the hair always start at the bottom of the hair with wide tooth comb to comb it and work your way towards the top is what I was told to do to prevent breaking it. ;-)

Mom mentioned that is what she was going to do...wet the bed and see how they liked it...I told her but then she would have to lay in it til they came. EWW!!! Not sure what she will do.

I got ahold of my brothers daughter and she said she was going to call him in mexico and let him know what our brother is trying to do and also what is happening at this place. Not sure if he can do anythng or not but he is in charge of mom so maybe??

Well need to go check on a load of clothes over in laundry room so best get going here.

Thanks for listening to me today!!!

Hi Trish and my OFF family:

Hope everyone has a happy Easter. I'm working ... my boss has talked about getting Easter pizza.

Talked with my brother and mom ... mom is down about selling her car ("they didn't ask me about it" is what she said). I think she realizes she can't drive anymore, and that selling it will save on insurance, etc. But she feels bad about losing that freedom ... she has been driving since 1959. My brother is hosting dinner because Mom can't get out anywhere this year, so my oldest brother and SIL are coming over to her house and my other brother is doing the cooking ... which is good, because he likes to entertain anyway.

Not much else happening. We are having a warmup here ... 53 degrees, but it is a little cloudy. We had rain last night.

Judy, could your mom have in-home care? Like in-home therapy? Or does she need 24/7 care like my mom does? (It's expensive and Medicare doesn't cover it.)

Well, I should get in the shower and have lunch. Have a good day.

Eileen I am not sure what she can get and if my brother doesn't keep his nose out of it we might never know what she can get!!! I know she had some therapy at home one time after her triple heart by pass so not sure if she could this time or not...I called my sister and told her what he is trying to pull and she is so pissed that she can't drive so she can't do something!!! Just wait til my other brother gets home!!! He will be ready to kick his ass for sure!!! I just don't know what to do right now.

Happy Easter sistas! I am at Carrie's house doing some laundry. And I'm going to shower and wash my hair too. Don't know if she'll be released today or not. It's not looking very hopeful so far. Very few doctors around on Easter Sunday. We are both sick of being in the hospital. But she sure did need the care. I am grateful for her surgery and recovery. 100 years ago she would have just been dead. Better go. Don't want to be away from her too long. Love you all!
