Too Old
I am so lucky to have found this forum and website. I have for the best 6 years felt that I was too old to have surgery for my weight even after 4 physicians stated that my medication were helping with that issue. Finally after dealing with thyroid cancer I decided I am sick of not living my life and at only 53 years old I want many, many more years to enjoy. So this Thursday, Feb 28th I will have VSG and be on the road to a new me/new life even though I still know I have to be the one that will have to make the food choices better and exercise a part of my daily life. It has been great to read your posts ... yes I have been lurking behind the lines and over in the Main Forum. This is home though. Thanks to all of you for taking the time to post and help others including myself out. It is greatly appreciated. I will be here from now on with my journey and help when I can.
I am so happy to hear you are finally having the surgery!! It will make your life easier and so much happier!!

Hello and welcome to OFF! What is your name, please?
We are never too old to make positive changes that will impact our health and well being. WLS has changed my life for the better, and I'm sure you will feel that way too. I had my surgery 2 years ago when I was 53, also. You're absolutely right--we have many, many years left and it is wonderful to feel healthy again.
Just keep posting with us every day. We will all help you as much as possible. Glad you posted today!
Hi Mikka,
Welcome, I had Thyroid Cancer also. I am at my 5 year post thyroid cancer mark. I also am 11 years post RNY. I have maintained a 150 pound weight loss and I am 58 years old.
I moved to Florida 5 years ago.
I did develope a low cortisol level and am on Prednisone from the the thyroid cancer. No rhyme or reason!!!! My body just decided not to produce the cortisol so on prednisone it is.
Again welcome! Ask any questions you may have.
Carla
Hello Carla, I hate to see you are on prednisone and I hope that you are fortunate that it will not do the damage to you that it did to me. I was a year post thyroid cancer in January and I just had my ultrasound and was told that there is a couple of nodules on lymph nodes. My endo physician first said I would have to wait but I told him this was just too important for me right now as being diabetic and on two insulins they along with the thyroid medication is causing a weight gain no matter what I do. I promise to have a follow up ultrasound in May and go from there.
You give me strength with your story. Thanks for sharing.
Hi and Welcome,
You're right. There is a ton of love here. We laugh and cry with each other. I was 49 years old when I had my RNY. I was on Lipitor, for high cholesterol, and my doc told me I was prediabetic, and had a serious talk with me about my weight and exercise, and all the dangers if I were to become diabetic. Since being three months post-op, I have had normal cholesterol and blood sugars. Right now, my exercise is nearly nonexistant. I am recuperating from a broken foot. But, God is good. I recently moved from Pennsylvania to Michigan, and have an exercise partner with my daughter.
Please check in with us on our daily thread.
