Aloha OFF family....

This is strange I know...for me to be here starting the thread. But, I woke up at midnight and couldn't go back to sleep so I figured I'd spend a little time here with you all and try sleeping later.

It has been windy like crazy the past few days, and I live in a place called "Maalaea" which means "red dirt." So, you can imagine how my place might look! We usually keep the windows open here and that lovely red dirt just loves to fly in and cover anything and everything!! I have nothing to complain about, especially when I see the news of snowstorms, floods, draught etc. on the mainland.

My job at the hospital screening newborn babies continues to give me a lot of gratitude. Yesterday I screened 8 babies......all adorable and most all of them had mothers and fathers who loved them. Always sad when I get a meth baby, or a baby detoxing from mother's drinking. But thankfully those are few and I always say a little prayer that they live happily and loved.

I have a neighbor and dear friend who has been in the hospital for many days now. She is 87 and not doing well. Hospice is coming today to set up her condo so that she can come home and be with her daughter, and her beloved little ****zu, Bubba. When I'm working at the hospital I go up and see her, and it is so sad to see someone who was so dynamic and fun to be so incapacitated. So many of us are having medical problems.....and it feels good to be able to share about them.

My absence is not because I don't care about all of you....because I do!! This has been a place of sharing and understanding from way before I had WLS until today.......almost 8 years later.

Hoping something wonderful happens in your life today....and that you feel loved and happy....at least for part of the day! Ha!

Good morning Karen & all,

Pretty red dust bunnies? Sounds interesting.

I am home from the hospital. It has been months since I have felt well but figured it was stress and all sorts of other issues. Weight kept sliding off, I was tired but two doctors had already proclaimed me 'healthy'.

After a couple of days of coughing and feeling miserable I went to see my Primary. Chest X-rays, meds for pneumonia, sent home to rest. That evening I began to have belly pain. At first I figured it was from the meds but it got worse. Passed out in the bathroom and off to the ER we went.

The rest is a big blur. My spleen ruptured for unknown reasons, they rushed me to surgery to remove it and gave me 12 units of blood. Several days in ICU, not knowing what the heck was happening. Lots of tubes, IV's and drugs put me out of it. During the testing they discovered I have heart problems and a large mass on my lung. More testing to follow and I'm on oxygen at all times. But It feels good to be home.

I don't sit at the computer for long but have tried to see what is happening here.

Kisses

Annette

Annette...I spoke with my medical doctor today. She said it appears the pneumonia is gone. However, she is seeing a spot on my lung as well. That lung has never been normal but she said it is different then my other X-rays. I have an appointment with my pulmonary doctor on Friday. My lung has been hurting but I just attributed it so all my coughing and the pnuemonia. Guess I will have to wait and see what the specialist has to say. Always something!! I am going to Let Go and Let God handle this!!

Love and more hugs....connie d

God morning Karen & Annette. Karen they say we may get up to 40 this week. Thats a heat wave to us. I think our schools have had 8 or 9 snow days so far this year. It's snowing again now. Not much news here.I stay home as much as possible in the winter. We just ordered 20 more cords of wood. Now to get it cut!!!

Annette I hope & pray you get better soon. It is so hard to be sick. Hope Tom is doing ok too.

Well you all have a great day. Nan

Aloha Nan........Thanks for sharing your weather situation! It always makes me feel guilty when I complain about it being windy here......but it's always warm! When I first moved to Maui I didn't think I was going to be able to stand it. I would put my head in the freezer 10 times a day just to cool down. Now I'm acclimated and I am freezing if it gets down to 70 degrees!!

Always good to hear from you Nan........love your stories of your family.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen
