SATURDAY MORNING WHAT'S HAPPENING?
Better Late Than Never,
Judy, I earned a Masters in Social Work, with an emphasis in Mental Health, right after my divorce. One of the major problems we have in this country is constant government budget cuts to the very social service programs and programs to provide medical insurance for the severely mentally ill. I worked in a psychiatric hospital on a part time basis, and saw first hand what happens to individuals whose families have given up, and they can't afford to live on their own. Group homes are few and far between.
My sister lives in the house I grew up in. She frequently gets visits and calls from a guy we grew up with. He's currently homeless and schizophrenic. He has a history of violent attacks against his Mom, who is in her 80's. So, she sold the house he grew up in, and moved further away. His brother and sister live in the area, but don't bother with him. He rarely gets the meds he needs for his illness, because he thinks he's all better when on them, so he stops taking them. There's another reason people with schizophrenia stop taking their meds. The side effects sometimes make them feel zoned out and useless, often with drooling.
I hope you'll ask your boss to hire a professional cleaning business to get that apartment cleaned up. Lord knows what type of illnesses your guys could contract from cleaning that garbage up.
I was out the door first thing today to babysit my grandchildren. While there, I realized I have a full blown sinus infection, kicking up my asthma. Needless to say, I enjoyed being with my Munchkins all day, but I'm physically miserable. A doc back in PA ordered an antibiotic for me, but it'll take a few days before I'm back to healthy.
Hugs,
Trish
