Guilt Enough to Go Around

Hi Jeannie,

I was the smallest of my siblings, but had the surgery because of my comorbidities of high cholesterol, being prediabetic and horrific arthritis in every blessed joint in my body.  My siblings were extremely supportive, being there to visit me in the hospital.  My two brothers died young of pulmonary emboli.  My sister had lap band surgery, but never followed the diet and exercise guidelines a WLS patient should follow.  She's looking into the sleeve.  I wish she would go where I had my surgery, but she won't.

Great to see you post.

Hugs,

Trish

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

Hello, I am new here and just got my surgery date today. March 1st!

I am telling very few people and not everyone in my family knows. The dynamics between my sisters and I have ALWAYS been strained. I personally can't handle the drama from others which is why I will not tell them, If they ever comment, I will simple say I am on a rigid high protein diet prescribed by my doctor. End of story.

My older sister and I rarely speak, so she isn't an issue. My younger sister competes with me in EVERYTHING I DO!
However, I just don't care. She wears me out emotionally, and I have to just shut her off. I am so sorry your sisters seem to feel they need to compete with you as well. The facts are, you did this to better your health and you deserve to be healthy and fit! You are not the shell of a being they see on the outside. You are a person on the inside. I always ask my 15 year old daughter the following....

Are you a good person?              Are you kind?                Are you loving?                 Are you generous?              Would you be your friend?                       Do you do your best?              Do you have strength of character?            When those answers are all yes, and they are, then that is what matters. YOUR values, not your families!

I can only say this because I ask my self those questions pretty regularly. Otherwise, the haters would eat me alive.

I wish you only the best in life and strength of character you deserve.  Sandy

I will care for my body so that I can feel the pleasure of being fit & fully alive as I grow older.
