Picture frustration

Happy Sunday from sunny California's Central Valley. It's a smokin' hot 55 degrees here! Lol
I've tried posting my pic on the Avatar page to no avail. A message comes up saying my pic is too many pixels. I don't know how to make pictures smaller on instagram or my phone camera. I don't have a computer so it's hard to change things with just my Smart android.
Has anyone else had this problem? Help!
