Monday, Monday! (where did the weekend go?)

Happy Monday!

Wow…..what a treat to hear from our “strangers”..welcome home!  So good to see you!

It’s darned bitter cold here in Niagara....was MINUS SIXTEEN CELCIUS BELOW with high winds and a much worse wind chill factor....we sit between two of the Great Lakes and are also bordered by the Niagara River so the cold is also DAMP and gets into one’s bones as we age. Derek has been busy salting the parking lots to melt the “blac****” and snowplowing them all when the snow exceeds his “trigger depth” limit. Sometimes, JB has to help when Derek cannot do it all alone…..he just cannot find people who actually want to WORK! Pretty sad, welfare is TOO easy for well-bodied men!

Our feral cat community is safe and warm out there, having taken over our late Zeus’s insulated doghouse inside the barn and they also have their insulated, three story “cat house” on the verandah.  Inside, Oreo and LilyRose bask in warmth and are spoiled rotten!

We enjoyed a Sunday evening dinner out with our sons for Derek’s birthday…it’s actually Dec 29th but we always wait til things settle down in January and usually it is a last-minute arrangement since we have to be so conscious of the weather forecast for Derek…can’t be eating a big meal then go out and work all night in the cold. We had a mini-blizzard while we were at the restaurant but not enough for a lot of plowing, but every plaza needs to be salted for Monday morning.  So Derek is out there now (2 AM) …I saw him drive by with one of his snowplow trucks and he blinked his flashing blue light as he drove by our house. *s*

I have a 1:00 PM appointment with the Hilton Garden Inn, Special Events Manager, to sign the contract for discounted room rates and availability for our huge women’s day in the park charity event called EMPOWERED WOMEN.

It’s a busy week for me because now and then, both our sorority dinner meeting AND my BPW dinner meeting happen in the same week (Tues & Thurs) plus a Fri appointment with the owners of a FOODIE TRUCK that I need at the park event.  Normally, such a week is nothing to me but given my current cir****tances, my energy levels are so low. However, the newest bloodwork is done and I will see my family doctor Feb 5th and my Oncologist mid March. But I can handle this, just need extra naps & protein drinks. *s*

JB and I were very puzzled by a four-toned whistle we have been hearing for the last few weeks, every now and then, there it was. We checked everywhere, including the chimney and fireplace.  Oreo and LilyRose totally ignored it which was odd in itself. At dinner, we told Dan (our electronics engineer genius) and he knew right away what was happening. The Samsung Galaxy Tablet that the boys gave me for Christmas, apparently signals when Bluetooth (whatever THAT is) is trying to connect…he emailed me the instructions on how to disable this signal….lol....I was wondering if we had a GHOST! *s* I have SO much to learn!

Well, 2:15 am and I’m finally ready for bed….again…be well and safe..sending prayers and positive energy,

Nancy B

Good Morning Nancy and OFF Family,
I've had a nice weekend break from Mom. She's supposed to come back tomorrow. I then see my doctor on Thursday. Hopefully, I'll get the green light to travel. I told my kids how depressed I've been. My daughter offered to fly here to drive me to Michigan. Regardless of what the doc says on Thursday, I have to wait till the beginning of February because I'm broke and have to wait for my retirement check on the 1st.

Today, I'll be reading my fifth book and crocheting. I finished my fourth book late last night. I'm glad I found these two authors in my book club.

Have a blessed day.

Love and Hugs,
Trish

Good morning Nancy and everyone.....

Nancy....please be careful and don't overdo. I know how busy you are but please remember to take care of you too!!  I did a little coloring last night. It sure does relax me. I was then able to fall asleep.

Trish.....glad you had a relaxing weekend. I am praying Thursday's appointment goes well and you get the go ahead to travel!

I am feeling a bit better today. I think I may actually be heading the other direction....finally!!  Now of course this horrible weather has kicked my Fibro and Arthritis pain over the top. Oh well.....just another day!  It is -14 degrees and feels like -32. I will not venture out today for any reason.

Wishing you all a wonderful day! Prayers for those in need.

Much love and many hugs...connie d

Hi Nancy, Trish, Connie, and all to come,

I feel bad for all of you dealing with such fridged weather. Take care of yourselves.

Marilyn said I can use her computer while I'm with Desert so I'll be able to check in often. That will be nice. Nothing of any importance happening here today. Must do laundry and normal things like that.

 As always Mag

Good morning (barely!) Nancy B, Trish and Connie!  And all my OFF sistas!

Nancy, I had to chuckle at your post!  Everything around here beeps or whistles or buzzes or chirps . . . it's enough to drive you batty!  Even my dishwasher and frig beep at me now.  LOL!

Trish, hang on, sweetie!  Thursday will be here soon and then you will get some GOOD NEWS.

Connie, I have never been in sub-zero temperatures ever.  I just can't imagine living where you live.  I don't think I could make it.  The coldest weather I've ever experienced is about 12 degrees.  No wonder you're sick and you feel like crap.

Well, speaking of being sick, Benny is maybe a little better today.  His eyes are still swollen and matted up, but the whites of his eyes are clear today, and not pink!  He hates his eye drops.  It's all Chris and I can do to get them in his eyes.  She goes to work at 1 today and somehow I've got to give him his afternoon dose.  I don't know how I'm going to manage it.

So far, neither Chris or I show any signs of the pink eye. Thank goodness!I didn't get to do any sewing at all yesterday.  I hope to get my machine and supplies unpacked during naptime today.  No more progress has been made on Benny's room either.  As soon as we get it all pulled together, I'll take some pics.  It may be awhile, but we're practicing PATIENCE in 2013!

Lots going on here this week, so hopefully the time will fly by and the blue funk will stay away.

Love you all!

Vickie,

I have found an addicting site called Pinterest. It has all sorts of hints and ideas.

The tip to put eye drops in children sounds easy:

* Have child lay flat and close their eyes.

* When the eyes are closed place a drop of the med in the corner of each eye.

* When the child opens their eyes, the drops go right into the eye - no fuss, no muss, no problem.

It is worth a try.

Good Luck!!

Thank you, Annette!  That is a very sensible plan.  Don't know if I can get that much cooperation out of Benny yet.  Right now he just covers his eyes and screams whenever he senses it's time for his medicine.  I may have to wait until he falls asleep and try a variation of your trick then.  Chris will be home to help with the nighttime dose.  You're a sweetie!

Afternoon OFF family...

Well some excitement here today...got back from eye dr and one of the tenants were fighting with her boyfriend outside...he left walking without a coat on told Rick she HAS people LIVING with her (not supposed to be) and kept on walking...she jumps in her car driving like a mad woman (which is was/is) and roads are slippery due to snowing like crazy pulls out into street infront of a SUV and she slams on her brakes almost gets rear ended and we are watching all this and she gets him back in her car...comes back home and the fight is back on only this time he has only his socks on and shorts!!!!!!!! I put a call in to the police...they are on the way...another tenant tells me she heard him say she doesn't want the cops there because of the drug parphanalilia (sp) so I call police back to clue them in on drugs being inside she tells me 2 cars on the way!!! They come...check ID and they come clean and police leave...HUH???????? Meantime I have a call into my boss letting her know this dude told Rick he is livng there!!! She is getting me a letter ready to give her. Hopefully she moves out!!!!!!!! I do NOT need her and her drugs in this complex!!!!!!!!!!

So anyhow my eye dr appointment I find out I have he start of a cateract. Nice. Gave me a script for new glasses. Found out my cost there asked for just the script will look around for cheaper price. Told them I didn't have that much money right now. OK. With me needing to wear them ALL the time I want transisitions. So there is the big cost. Then after picking out the frames she tells me it will be an extra charge because of the no frame on bottom of lenses...grrrrrrrrr why didn't she tell me that when I asked for cheaper frames??????? HELLO!!??? But then I forgot I am in Galion....idiot area for drs and such....sighs.

Anyhow it is COLD here and snowing like crazy at times. Roads are slick as ice!!!!!!! Calling for 1-3 inches far as I know.

Bandit wants to go outside so need to bundle up again...

Thoughts and Prayers for ALL that need them!!!

HUGSSSSSSSSSSS

Hi Nancy and my OFF family:

Colder here today, too ... 28 F, feels like 16. Windy, and all the brown crispy leaves are blowing around, and Juliette is all excited seeing the leaves flying in the wind.

Watched the inauguration. Nice speech, very inclusive. Loved the music. I woke up in time to hear James Taylor sing, one of my favorite singer/songwriters. He has such a nice voice; he did a good job with America. Then Kelly Clarkson and finally Beyonce. Very inspiring singing. Four years ago, I was recovering from my second knee surgery on my right knee and watched Obama's first inauguration (I know, some don't like him, so I won't get into politics). But I always find these ceremonies inspiring, even when G.W. Bush was sworn in (and I didn't like him).

Well, not much else happening here. Glad some are getting better ... Connie, take it easy because your body is still weak and fibro will be affected by the cold weather (don't I know it!). Trish, hope you can get out of your sister's house soon ... the end of the month isn't far away. Judy, sorry about the cataracts and the cost of care. Too bad your employer isn't paying for this. They should, for what you put up with. Nancy, you are so busy and involved ... wish I had your energy. Vickie, glad Benny is better and the rest of you are OK, too.

Anyway, got to get into the shower. Have a good day.

Good Afternoon OFF Family,

Nancy, how I dislike the kind of cold you are getting.  Niagara is just beautiful in the summer – only time I was there.  It is just terrible having to depend on the snowplow, but so fortunate when someone takes their job seriously. Bundle up and stay warm!!!

Trish, praying for good news on Thursday!

Connie, thankful you are starting to feel somewhat better.  Keep taking good care of yourself.  Great idea to stay out of the weather  – coldest wind chill I was ever in was -45.  Didn’t venture out of the house that day and kept the fireplace and teapot going.  Stay warm!!!!!

Vickie, it’s always hard to get a little one to take meds. I feel guilty with our 70 degree weather this week, but that’s why we moved back to Texas from Indiana. Only main streets were plowed, so it was always a battle getting in/out of the neighborhood. Gives me chills just thinking about it!

Judy, you have such more patience with your tenants than I would. They don’t know how good they have it.

My grandson, Jacob, turns 16 tomorrow - such a big day in a young man’s life.  So proud of him.  Nothing else going on here today - may take my youngest two grandsons to a movie this afternoon.

Hugs and prayers to all, Sandra
