Thursday Happenings

Good Morning Girls,
I had so much trouble sleeping because I kept needing to get up and go potty. My bladder was working overtime all night.

I got up and threw a load of clothes in the washer and washed my hair. I miss taking showers so much right now.

Nothing exciting is on my agenda today.

Prayers and hugs,
Trish

Morning, Trish!  And all my OFF sistas!

Oh, Trish, I can only imagine how much you must miss being independent and in your own space!  When I broke my ankle, I couldn't take a shower without wearing this heavy duty plastic bag on my leg.  No matter how tightly I fastened it, some water would always trickle down and dampen my cast.  But the thing I missed the most was taking a bath!  I didn't get to take a bath for 2 months!  Butch bought me a plastic rubber maid step ladder and I would put it in the tub.  Then I would sit on the top step and extend my leg out over the edge of the tub.  Then I could pour water over myself without getting my cast wet, but it just wasn't the same as taking a bath!

Butch's new lift chair was delivered yesterday.  Oh, it is so nice!  It has heat and massage, both of which are just lovely.  I sat on my butt all day yesterday and crocheted!  LOL!  Got to make myself do a little actual WORK today!

I did make Tex Mex Lasagna for supper last night, which was yummy.  It's been so cold here.  Hot Mexican food always tastes so good in cold weather.  However, I can't really eat Mexican food out anymore.  It's too greasy or something.  I do better to make it myself at home where I can control the ingredients.

I have a new addiction.  It's raisin bread!  I bought a loaf for Benny to try for breakfasts.  OMG.  I have eaten nearly the entire thing.  (Benny does like it, too, but his greedy ol' Mimi is eating it all.)  No, it's not a cookie, but it might as well be.  Sigh.  Will I ever conquer this damn sugar thing?

That's about all the excitement in my life right now.  How is everyone else doing?  Judy, you have too MUCH excitement in your life!  Your job reminds me of day care--only for adults!  Wish we would hear from Laureen or Carolyn or some of our other MIA's.  And our newbies need to join in the daily fray, too!  C'mon--post something!  LOL!

Love you all!

Good Morning Trish and Vickie and the rest of OFF-

Long day yesterday but glad today is my off day so to speak.  Have a team meeting tonight at 6:30 but I'm free for the day.  Planning to get a hair cut, a pedicure and work out before the meeting.

Vickie I share with you the sugar demon frustration.  They have a canteen at the office full of candy bars, chips, etc...  I can walk by that no problem but homemade baked goods can't walk by them.  Bread is my other additcion and I'm finding that Brunhilda still does not like rolls, breads and rice.  Haven't figured out why.  Crackers she'll tolerate.  Started consciously watching the number of cups of coffee I'm drinking in the morning.  I used Coffeemate No Sugar but I think it's still too many carbs.  I'm switching to tea at the office and no more coffee except at home in the morning.

I've gained about 15 pounds since returning to Texas for the winter.  I had planned to try to lose another 20 while here.  Pants are getting tight and I am not going to buy a bigger size.  Been working out at the wellness center and going to amp it up a bit but I know the fastest way to lose is to restrict my calories especially carbs.  Just seem to be falling back into my old habits of comfort eating.

Since October we have been living with a drama in our little RV area that has frustrated a lot of us volunteers.  The FWS hired a "veteran" to run the check station for the duck hunting season.  At first we were sympathetic to him as he brought his wife and 9 year old daughter with him.  Turns out that the wife is pregnant.  But it has been stressful to say the least.  They have taken over the community building for their own using it to watch TV, cook and hangout.  They do not police after their dog which has attracted coyotes to the area.  When we gather in the evenings for libations the little girl wonders over to be with us and the parents just drive off without saying anything to us.  Turns out that he may not be a veteran for real as he never completed basic training.  He had a nervous breakdown in basic training and they "cashed" him out of the service.  As the child of military man, this makes me angry that "real" veterans who need jobs are being displaced by someone who is abusing the system in my opinion.  Topping it off, the young man is lazy and makes his wife and daughter clean the bathrooms which is part of his job responsibility.  He is consistently late for everything and just gives me the creeps.  They didn't get the child enrolled into school until after Christmas.  Just after Thanksgiving the little girl "fell" in the trailer and hyperextended her knee.  They had to air lift her to a hospital in Houston for treatment.  Since then she's been in a leg splint and it doesn't appear that they are getting her any followup care.  Before Christmas I called CPS about the school issue and the fact that they leave her alone all the time.  CPS said it's up to the sheriff and the school system to deal with the truancy issue.  Leaving a child over the age of 4 alone for periods of time is not considered neglect in Texas.

Okay feel better that I have gotten that off my chest.  Hopefully they will leave at the end of duck season.  Although he has already tried to file a workmans comp claim for a spider bite and thinks that if his wife volunteers they will let them stay in the trailer.  The whole thing justs puts me on edge.  We all feel like we're walking on eggshells in the RV area.  FWS has banned them from the community building but we still have to see the situation going on everyday.

Okay, nuf said.  It's a sunny day and I have it off so I'm going to get my butt in gear and enjoy my day off.  Thanks for listening everyone.

Good morning Trish and everyone.....

Trish....sorry things are so miserable for you. Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight.

My doctor's nurse called and left a message for me "yesterday"....I just now saw it. I always have to shut my phone down real low when I am at home because it bothers my sister. I do have pneumonia. I just called the clinic and left a message for my doctor. I am not feeling any better. My sister now has a cold and is upset because she thinks I gave it to her. I doubt it as it started the day after I got home. She probably contacted it somewhere else. Now she thinks she will get my pneumonia. She said, "I better not...I never had that before." Good grief!!!

Wishing you all a beautiful day. Not feeling up to chatting right now. You know I love you all and am missing joining in on the posts. Just too weak. I will check in later when I can.

Prayers for so many of you....lots of love and hugs....connie d

Connie, it takes up to two weeks for a cold to incubate, so it wasn't you. I hope your doctor will take care of your pneumonia and you will take care of yourself. Geez, your sister sounds like a piece of work ... I could use stronger language but I won't. She reminds me a little of my sister ... very *****y.

Get to the doctor ... maybe in the hospital?

Hi Trish and my OFF family:

I am off today and plan to get the rest of the Christmas stuff down. Got the ceramic tree put away yesterday and the lights out of the window, but that was all. Had a little (well, big actually) tummy upset ... IBS flare that made me change clothes and wash my blankets and comforter on the bed last night after I changed clothes. Fortunately, I now have a washer. Yuck ... haven't had that happen for awhile. Don't think it was my dinner because it happened too soon after dinner.

Cindi and Vickie, I too have the carb monster ... it's basically at work. I will have crackers (wheat thins) at home or whole wheat bread or wraps at home, but my problem is candy and cookies, etc., at work.

Not much else happening here today. Need to get working on undecorating and unpacking so it doesn't look like I just moved in. I've been here nearly two months now.

Anyway, have a good day.

I had that stuff going around and had this happen to me twice.  Bill came in last night and told me the same thing happened to him.  So I had to confess up and tell him about my two times.   It just rolled and happened before I could make it to the rest room.
