Sunday - a day of rest and thoughts

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Here I am wide awake here at 3:30 am because I actually slept for twelve solid hours last night and, wow!, what a treat THAT was!  I had forgotten how good it feels to sleep solidly like that for more than 3 hours.  Of course, this only happens when I have had a week or so of very poor sleep but I am so grateful to experience it all anyways *s*

There are no real plans for today…working an a pretty multi-coloured shawl to add to my collection..... of lap-blankets, shawls, and single bed covers.…it’s soft pinks, turquoises, white and mauves…then I take them to the Nursing Home where Mom used to live and donate them to residents who never get a visitor. That’s about 45 minutes drive but well worth the time to make some lonely seniors smile.

I am also still working on the two “commendations”  for special women who showed courage and compassion for others despite personal danger.  These will be presented at our Business & Professional Women’s Club Provincial Conference in June - they must be prepared and handed in before Jan 31st.  This means a lot of research and stats as well as proof of the facts. It will be the first time that a commendation (if accepted by our delegates) could be done for a woman posthumously.

This month, I have made a lot of changes in procedures, got volunteers for newly-created positions and invoked a new earlier starting time for our BPW monthly dinner meetings.  Hopefully this will save a lot of time, stress and renew more focus on the meeting.  We have noticed that, since I now do a monthly report on exactly WHAT BPW is and does, more ladies are interested  and we have gained new members! I have finally completed the monthly flyer to invite women to attend, created a facebook event, and invited ladies to come for dinner and to learn about our work and hear our amazing Guest Speakers. This month’s topic is “The Power of Love”.

JB was lazing in the bathtub, reading, and our B&W cat OREO, aka DemonSeed, who follows JB everywhere, went upstairs to keep John company.  Both Oreo and LilyRose have developed a habit of jumping up on the side of the tub and bending down to lap at the warm water.  Apparently, LilyRose walked in and surprised Oreo as he was drinking. Oreo was startled when she decided to nudge him out of the way.  Oreo’s hind end FELL into the bathwater right into JB’s LAP!  Downstairs, I heard some heavy thumping and some…er..NAUGHTY words, both in English and Dutch.  Apparently JB was almost circumcised!

I will end this post now, with THAT image in your mind….lol…love and positive energy to all.

Good Morning Nancy,
So good to hear from you today. I am so glad to hear that you got a good amount of sleep. It has been ages since I got that much sleep.

It's a little after 4:30 a.m. And I'm up because I had to go potty. Utley escaped the bedroom we're staying in. When he does that, I have trouble going going back to sleep. Of course, if I were in my own place, I'd sleep like a baby.

Sunday has me resting, and attending an eeting. My friend is picking me up to attend it.

Must scoot for now.

Hugs,
Trisha

Hello OFF family!

Company left yesterday! We had so much fun, talking and laughing.

I too got a great nights sleep. Only got up once and slept for 10 hours.

Nancy what a funny story about Oreo!! I have 3 cats and 3 dogs and I know how funny they can be.

I've decided to make some throw pillows for the couch. Doing research on the best way to do it. I have my sister's old sewing machine and have never used it. I'm going to look for 20 x 20 cloth napkins on sell since they'll already be cut and hemmed around the edges.  So I'm thinking of using a sewing tape, not sure if that will work. Has anyone tried this or have any other suggestions?

Hope you all have a Blessed day,

Debbie

Good morning Nancy B and Trish, you two night owls!  And all my OFF sistas!

We are up and moving kinda slowly this morning.  I love not having a schedule anymore!  We just sleep until we get up.  It's pretty marvelous.

Today we are continuing to make trips to the new storage building.  Made one trip yesterday and got most of Christie's boxes moved.  Today we are moving some of her furniture.  The sun is shining today, so we'll probably make at least 2 trips.  Weatherman says it will start raining again tomorrow.  Ugh.

Tomorrow Benny starts back to school and Butch has another doctor's appointment.  This time with an orthopedic surgeon to see what might be done about his knees.  He is so crippled up.  It hurts me so much to see him like that.  I don't know if knee replacement surgery is the answer or not, but we have to do something for him.  The poor man just hobbles along.  He has no quality of life at all.

I am doing fine.  Did better with my food yesterday.  Hope to do better today, too.

Nothing new to report.  Just same o' same o'.  Which is really a good thing, I think!

Love you all!

Hi Nancy and my OFF family:

Love your Oreo story ... my first two cats, Kittle and Cinnamon, used to love to walk around the old claw-foot tub I had in Montana, but of course occasionally, they'd fall in, and Kittle was deathly afraid of water (most cats are, but they're curious, too). Then he'd try to get out of the tub and looked like a drowned rat. Poor boy. I tried to bathe them once or twice when they got into the pine needles (I'm allergic to pine) and was clawed up from it. Plus, Kittle was panting, he was so anxious.

Talked to my brother and Mom today on Skype. ... mostly my brother, but Mom for a few minutes. She sits in her recliner most of the day, but the caregiver is getting her up and moving twice a day. Gary is looking to get her a Nook or Kindle so she can read because she has problems holding anything.

Well, not much else is going on. It's gray and gloomy today but I don't see any rain forecasted. Watching football right now and then off to work later. Have a good day everyone.

Happy Sunday Nancy B and OFF-

Have not posted in a long time.  It's been hectic here at the refuge what with getting ready for the holidays and then the holidays.  Spent 10 days in California with my brother for Christmas.  My mother flew into Houston and we were to fly to California together.  Only problem was they misplaced my Mom at the Houston airport and she missed the flight, rather we both missed the flight.

They found my Mom and the lesson learned is that she either takes directs flights or travels with someone to help.  The stress of travel is disorienting for her.   Combine that with vision problems and it's not a good thing.

Arrived back in Texas on the 28th and hit the ground running.  I was asked to lead and facilitate a team of people who are going to try to put together a photographic narrative about the refuge for it's 50th year.  It's an interesting project but I find myself drifting back into the bad habits of comfort eating.  Getting ready for Christmas was not easy either.

So today we had a sunny day and I took advantage of that to take down the outdoor Christmas decorations.  Like Vickie we are supposed to have more rain Tuesday and Wednesday so today was the day to take things down.  Everything has been put in the storage tote and stowed in the storage compartment of the RV.  The laundry is done, the water bottles are filled and I have the remainder of the afternoon to relax and clean.

Cold weather arrived while I was in California.  I arrived back to find that my cat Sylvester had killed a mouse and left it on my pillow for me.  Then I found another mortally wounded mouse at the foot of the bed.  Both were thrown out the window.  This week I've killed at least 18 mice in the electronic traps.  Today I put peppermint oil saturated cotton pads in all the compartments to repel the mice.  I think I've found the source of entry and will stuff it with steel wool when the concrete dries up later today or tomorrow.

Not much else is new here.  I start back to water fitness in earnest tomorrow.  I have to focus on cutting back on the food intake, eliminating carbs and reving up my metabolism.  I need to get back to where I was when I arrived here.  Gotta practice my mindful eating habits.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.  Positive thoughts to all of you in need.
