Merry Christmas OFF family!

Ho, ho, ho and Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, etc.:

I haven't had time to post the past couple of days. Sunday, the whole family was here, and before they got here, I was helping Gary out. The gathering was nice, it was great seeing everyone again. They all went over to see Mom at the rehab center before coming over ... she was happy to see everyone (including her two great-grandsons). Then we had a nice time visiting and watching the Bears game here. The food was great, the company was even better.

Today, my brother and I went to visit Mom ... she apparently was very lonely because she called and said, "Gary, where are you, I've been waiting for you all day." Anyway, we were getting ready to leave at that point. So we went to the hospital and later she apologized for the call. She said she didn't feel much like Christmas because she had no decorations or music or anything. Well, when we came in, there were kids leading the residents in carols ... she was probably invited and said no. We watched her do her PT ... she could barely walk. Doesn't bode well for the future.

In the evening, we were invited to my cousin's for dinner ... the food was good, but something didn't agree with me because I got very full very fast and quit eating as I knew I should. But then the food didn't move. I tried water, tea ... kept feeling like I was going to throw up, but nothing happening. So then I asked if it would be OK to lie down. That helped ... after belching a few times, the food started moving through the system again and I felt better. Don't know what happened. But obviously my pouch worked a little too well.

Well, I head back to Evansville tomorrow. I miss my kitty ... glad I came up and saw my family, but I miss Juliette and need to rest up for work Wednesday.

So how was your Christmas? Hope it was a good day. I think I'm going to bed.

Judy, I got home just fine. I went home Christmas Day ... a little snow flurries in Chicago, nothing south, just heavy clouds. I was tired and fighting sleep all the way. I had no money after I put $20 in the tank and spent $2.50 on a breakfast sandwich at Subway. I was worried I wouldn't have enough gas to get home (or be getting home on fumes). I stopped in Terre Haute, Ind., to use a bathroom ... at a Starbucks because I knew the bathroom would be clean. Well, I struck up a conversation with a woman while we were waiting ... seems the bathroom door was locked for a long time and no one was coming out. So we talked while we waited ... told her about mom, my dilemma of no money, not enough gas, etc. Her hubby came in and she went to use the men's bathroom, then came out and gave me $25. How nice! Hoosiers are wonderful people. Then after I used the restroom, he and his wife asked to pray for mom. Sure, I said, knowing she would appreciate it. I'm not overly religious, but whatever works, I'm up for it. I feel blessed having someone help me out.

Snow is supposed to hit tomorrow, but early in the morning.

Merry Christmas Eileen and Judy and all my wonderful gorgeous OFF sistas!

Joy to the world!  It is a beautiful Christmas day here in the Hill Country.  A bit windy, but sunny and not cold at all.  So sorry for all of you having to deal with that big winter storm!  We are supposed to dip down into the 20's tonight, but it's dry and clear here.  Don't know how you all stand all that ice and snow.  I would rather deal with the heat in the summer than the cold in the winter.

I tried to find a minute to post all day yesterday, but it just didn't happen.  I felt like I cooked from the time I got up until the time I went to bed last night!  I haven't spent all day in the kitchen like that since before my surgery.  I was pooped!

We had too big a meal last night!  I made fried shrimp, shrimp and grits, tamales, scalloped potatoes, fresh green beans, Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuits, and a bunch of snacks and desserts.  I baked two kinds of cookies, an apple pie, some pineapple/coconut empanadas (to die for!), as well as dips and cheese balls, etc.  But it's been several years since I've had my whole family together for the holidays.  I went a little overboard.

This morning we had our traditional Christmas quiche after we opened presents.  Oh, Benny was cute!  He got the hang of opening presents right away!  He also helped us open all of ours.  Paper went everywhere!  LOL!  I got a new ergonomic keyboard (which I am typing on right now) and a digital photo album.  Also, Mom gave us all a very generous money gift.

Butch and I went on Sunday and ordered a new recliner lift chair for him for Christmas.  It won't be here until the end of January, but that's okay.  I thought it was important for him to pick it out for himself, since he's the one that will have to sit in it.  It has heat and massage options as well.  I know he will need it this next year.  I'm sure we are looking at having both of his knees replaced.  Anyway, that will be a sort of mutual present since I'll get to sit in it sometimes, too.

Oh, and I wanted to post and tell you all about Butch removing my stitches for me.  I knew he could do it.  He was a medic in the army and did a lot of suturing.  But what was so funny was the rest of my family.  You've heard of too many cooks in the kitchen?  I had too many doctors in the room.  Mom, Carrie and Christie all gathered 'round to watch the "operation" and they all had opinions on how it should go.  I felt a bit like a bug under glass!  But he took them out with no problems and I was so thankful!  Now my incision doesn't itch like crazy anymore.

So this evening, my meal will be quite a bit easier to prepare.  We're having a spiral sliced ham, a turkey breast, cornbread dressing (which I prepared yesterday), sweet potatoes, black eyed peas, cranberry sauce (which I made yesterday) and yeast rolls (I cheated and bought frozen ones).  We still have plenty of snacks and desserts to nibble on all day today.

I am thinking of Trish and her 12 dinner guests today.  Hope it all turns out wonderfully for you, Trish!  Judy, I'm sure your friends appreciate the chance to have Christmas dinner with you and Rick today.  Hope your son travels safely.  Connie, I don't know what the weather is like, but I hope you can stay safe if you decide to travel today.  Eileen, how nice for you to see all your family this year.  I'll bet your mom was happy to see you.  I'm sorry for all her problems.  Praying for better days!  Debbie A, you're having a big group to dinner today, too, aren't you?  Best of luck with that!  Carla, safe travels for you and Carl!  Mag, always so good to hear from you.  I miss your daily posts!  Cindi B, hope you are having a good holiday with your Texas family.  I know I am forgetting some, but you know I love you all!

Good evening Eileen and everyone...

I left earlier this morning to drive to Mpls/Bloomington to my daughter's. We had a nice day, It is always so wonderful to be with my grandchildren!  My granddaughter Amanda is stuck in Colorado. The alternator in their care went out. Amanda's boyfriend, Tyler and his dad will put a new one in tomorrow morning. Then they will proceed to make it to Minnesota. I missed her not being here with us today.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! Many prayers went out today!

Love and hugs....connie d
