I posted the following under another post from a few days ago. I am 63 at 270, 5'4". I know I can lose it and i am pretty confident that the surgery will go well. My biggest concern is my love of cooking. Well, it's not really a love, but I love to have my family and friends over for holidays, birthdays. Etc. Does that all change? It kinda sounds like torture if you cook things you can't eat. I was told all my bites have to be pea size. That sound really hard.

Also, I just got my approval last week but I am delaying my surgery till jan. is that smart or am I not showing the right kind of commitment? I have to be successful at this. I want the rest of my life to be joyful, and fun. Tired of feeling bad about myself! Any words of wisdom or insights will be so appreciated.
Thanks so much
Cindy

Hello Cindy....yes I too love to cook!!  Cooking and eating everything is how we got in this condition in the first place!

You will find that at least the first year or two you won't care about eating that food. You will be losing and feeling so much better about yourself. Remember..."Nothing Tastes As Good As Thin Feels!!"  By then you will have learned new eating habits and hopefully you won't go back to your old habits.

Glad you got the OKAY!!! Good Luck!!

HUGS....connie d

Connie, come to think of it, maybe the food issue just isn't as important to the rest of the family as it is to me! Thanks for the reality check!

Aloha Cindy...Welcome welcome to the OFF!! I'm an "old timer" having had surgery in 2006, but I so remember coming in here for the first time feeling nervous and anxious. I weighed 325 lbs.!! I am tall....5'10"....so I was a BIG WOMAN!!

Everyone in here was so totally wonderful and supportive. I grabbed on with all my might, and was helped through every step of the pre procedure, then the procedure, and then after the procedure. Today I weigh 145 lbs.....I've lost a whole LARGE person.....180 lbs!! I can't tell you how grateful I am. I no longer need extensions on airplane seatbelts, and I no longer fear fitting into theater seats, restaurants booths, etc.

You have begun a wonderful, life changing adventure. Please think of it as a whole new chapter in your life. Be gentle with yourself......have the surgery when you are ready. I wish I'd had mine much sooner than I did.

Good luck to you.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Hi Cindy, welcome to the group. You need to have the attitude that you will do what it takes to get the weight off. Nothing tastes as good as thin feels. I wish you the best of luck in your journey. Mona

Hi Cindy!  Welcome to one of the friendliest groups on OH.

I hear what you are saying.  The Holidays are a hard time to start and if you don't feel you are ready, wait.  I on the other hand did everything including begging to try to get them to let me have surgery before years end.

I had the Lap Band 2/09 so had most of the year to get ready.  I made it thru three Holiday seasons Cooking without issue.  I had my band removed in September so this year will be a challenge trying to keep the pounds I have lost off while waiting for my conversion sleeve surgery(vsg).  What surgery are you having?

I just got my approval yesterday for the sleeve. The center added another test so it looks like you and I will be heading into this together If I'm lucky.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.
